Practitioners are great--fees are inaccurately stated. I recommend them overall and my knee is improving. Heather Barnes is wonderful, employees are all kind, but billing lacks integrity. Well trained, experienced, knows and understands anatomy well, caring, warm, attentive, notices details, constantly reassesses progress, trustworthy Billing: Before starting an employee vetted me, my insurance, and gave me the prices to expect to pay out of pocket for the initial visit and follow up visits. The numbers the employee shared do not reflect what I paid. Feels like a bait and switch. I called the billing manager and told her about the unexpected visit increases ($20-50 per visit) . "I wasn't there [when the employee told you the prices]," was all she said. She took no responsibility for the inaccurate information her employees are telling prospective clients. Had she said they would do a training to ensure that misinformation wouldn't continue, I would feel differently and my trust would return. read more

Was referred to Agile by my former physio at UCSF who spoke highly of them. Started my physio sessions here last week since I moved to the peninsula. Space is conveniently located with parking right behind the building. Nice, fairly spacious area that is well equipped. Was just laughing as I remembered my experience at Agile San Mateo a couple years ago. I made a couple 1 hour appointments, while noting that their Web site interestingly said, "Each appointment is one (1) hour in length and is spent entirely with your physical therapist." I've been to different physical therapists and noted that's odd that would have to be said. Interestingly, this was explicitly repeated to me over the phone before my first appointment that I would have the full 1 hour with the therapist. After my first appointment, I looked at my clock and realized the therapist (Steve Anderson) had ended it at 45 minutes. I mentioned this to the front desk as I was going to pay. She went back and checked with the therapist and then came back and said this first appointment could be prorated for 45 minutes. At the next appointment, I checked my clock again afterwards and found that the appointment was ended at 45 minutes. This time they said that actually the appointments are 45 minutes. 15 minutes was for "charting". I said I made an appointment for an hour and paid for an hour. It didn't look like they were going to prorate again so I mentioned that they could just tell clients the appointment is for 45 minutes and charge the same price. The therapist said, "Are you trying to tell me what to do and how to run my business?" (No, actually I just said I wouldn't mind if they charged the same price for a 45 minute appointment if that's how long 1 hour appointments actually are, but I do mind if I pay for 1 hour and get 45 minutes.) He said they're like a medical provider and they get paid for charting. I said, uh..., I've lived with doctors my whole life and no they do not get paid for charting time. In response, the admin then says, well, they're *not* medical providers (who don't get paid for charting time). The admin had a manager come out to talk to me. The manager started off by saying she didn't want this to end up talking in circles. She then proceeded to talk in circles. I canceled all the rest of my appointments. And thought about that Wikipedia page that lists all the different psychological manipulation and abuse tactics. read more

I've been working with Susana for the last few months, and she is amazing! I came to Agile after a car accident that broke multiple bones and put me in a wheelchair for several months. With Sana's guidance, I was able to transition smoothly from wheelchair-bound to pain-free walking in about a month. I am so grateful for her ongoing help. I have been seeing Allison Mayer, DPT, for chronic PT problems for quite awhile now. She has helped me more than any of the many previous physical therapists I have been to. After listening to my situation she gave me a "tool box" of strengthening exercises, movements and many other resources that keep me going and gaining strength, to meet my specific needs including osteopathic care. She is extremely skilled and professional at what she does and has helped me greatly reduce my chronic pain. Beware of this place, dishonest and rude, I showed up for my appointment today Monday 9/14/20 which I waited two weeks for and upon arrival I was told that my appointment was cancelled and that they called me. No one called me in fact they texted me on Thursday to remind me of my appointment. The receptionist stated that she didn't know why they didn't call me because she didn't work yesterday. I replied you dint work yesterday why are you open on Sunday to which she had no answer. Also that the therapists that was assigned to doesn't work on Monday any more. To which I replied, did she quit this weekend or this morning since I received a reminder on Thursday. Tooo much to go on not worth it! I will never go there! read more

I have been visiting Steve Andersen for the past 8 years for various back, leg and shoulder injuries and Steve is a magician when it comes to physical therapy. Not only is he extremely good at what he does he is attentive, provides good advice on how to take care of the injury and also exercises to do to strengthen and improve. Steve Anderson is a miracle worker - I saw him for two bulging disks in my back, and I feel much much better and was able to avoid surgery and pain medications! Steve is the best physical therapist - very intuitive, thoughtful, empowers you with customized strengthening exercises to do at home, and has a wonderful understanding of the body and how to get to the root of healing your problem! ABA has a pretty incredible staff as well. Marilyn is wonderful at following up with and billing insurance - a very nice thing considering most offices will just give you a super-bill and let you duke it out with your insurance company. She has great follow-through and knows so much about all the various insurances and coverage. And Lisa and Dennis at the front are great, super nice, friendly, kind, and always try to accomodate my schedule changes and requests! I dont know why there are not more people raving about this practice! I've been to PT several times, and this is the best experience I've had yet. The front desk is very welcoming and professional. My therapist, Tony, has been very attentive to my knee rehabilitation. His knowledge and experience in the field has made every therapy session valuable Even sometimes when I don't communicate verbally what is going on, he can read the body language, and see where we need to focus to get my knee range and strength back to 100%, so I can work and play the way I did before, pre-surgery. I have been going to Tony at Agile for about 10 months. I originally went for frozen shoulder that set in after I broke my wrist. I had been to another place that did not really help very much and I had become discouraged. I was so impressed with how much Tony's work improved my range of motion and lessened the pain. After the hand therapist at Stanford said that they couldn't help me anymore, the surgeon said I should have a shot of cortisone and then probably another surgery. Instead, I got a prescription from my PCP for Tony to start doing my hand therapy as well. Now I can plank and do full yoga, even on the bad hand and shoulder. I'm also back to playing tennis. When I first showed up at ABA over 2 years ago I was a mess. In addition to problems with my knees, back, ankles and quads, i kept stumbling in my recovery from a torn calf muscle. I met with many of the therapists at ABA, including both Karen and Steve (the owners). I started seeing Steve regularly for maintenance and as-needed for new injuries. I've seen many PTs, but Steve was the first one who actually worked to get to the bottom of my issues and focus on the root cause instead of just healing the resulting injury. His use of "Fascial Facilitation Technique" has transformed my body in a way that no other PT before has even tried to do. Before Steve, I couldn't run more than a mile or two without serious pain. Now I regularly run 5-7 miles at a time, and even completed my first half ironman I'm incredibly grateful to Steve and the whole team at ABA for helping to get me back on the right track. This is an update. It is four weeks since the last visit with Mr. Anderson in which he basically set me back five months of recovery. I still need medication to sleep at night, and the pain continues on a daily basis. I have finally begun to walk but need a cane. I am still not able to work. I am now going through a neurological workup for a probable surgery on my spine due to the continuing right leg pain following Mr. Anderson's visit. I want to strongly stress that Steve Anderson's clinical judgment is sorely lacking, and his methods for helping people are, in my case, harmful. "Buyer beware", is strongly advised. read more
