So, I purchased a coupon for one of their facials through LivingSocial (who was gracious enough to refund my money after I recounted my horrible experience to them) and feel it my duty to forewarn others of the experience they may have if they go there. Okay first things first, I work in the beauty industry (hairstylist) and thus have had several friends over the years who were aestheticians, and obviously went to beauty school myself, where I learned firsthand as part of my education how to adminisiter a facial. I know what a facial is supposed to look and feel like, I have been getting them since I was 17 years old. I came on Yelp prior to purchasing the facial and because I saw only good reviews I felt assured that this would be a good experience. But now I am skeptical that these reviews are legit, rather than being from friends or employees of the place. Or maybe they only give good service to you if you are paying full price, because I Def. felt like my business was not valued since I had paid far less for an online coupon for their services. Ok so now to a retelling of my actual experience... First off, you should always be given a questionaire about your skin (routine, problems, habits) the first time you have a professional facial ANYWHERE. I was given no such thing nor was I asked about my skin in any way by my aesthetician. Rather, the first thing I was asked when she approached is "what are we doing today?" Uh, I said, "you are the professional so I will let you look at my skin and decide what it needs" (first pang of doubt goes through me) I was rushed into the room, which had the overhead lights fully on- the room lights should always be off and there should be some sort of ambient light the entire time you are in a room for a facial. From the moment you enter until you leave. Because it is not a relaxing experience to start such a service walking into a starkly lit room. Or having the overhead lights flipped on full blast after lying in darkness for a while. So anyway she ushers me in and says "here it is". Here what is? She tells me to change and leaves to let me do so. Anyhow we decide to go with the oxygen infusion facial and it begins with a loud, piercing sound from the O2 machine for about a minute right next to my ear. No apology or acknowledgement of this from my facialist. She literally spent 15 minutes on me (there is a clock in the room and I made note of when I was done because she spent so little time on me), was slamming and clinking things around as she picked them up and set them down the whole time, and just quickly slapped a few things on my face, rubbed them in with quick, jerky movements, then turned the overhead lights back, handed me a mirror and said that's it and left so I could change back into my clothes. I should also mention that you could clearly hear the tv and talking in the waiting area, and heels on the hardwood floor of on of the employees walking around during the entire time. Not exactly relaxing. I could not believe that that was it. Having worked in the service industry all my life (first as a bartender and server, now as a stylist) I tip automatically, but now think that I shouldn't have because thats only rewarding unforgiveable behavior. She treated me the whole time like she just wanted to get me in and get me out, and probably assumed I would not have any clue that this was a poor service. Tip of the day people: never assume your client is a clueless dumbass that doesn't know better, because they may just be one of your fellow employees in the industry... read more

I purchased a Groupon for the Body Wrap and was told two weeks ago that I was basically SOL because they have no open appoitment and that I would have to eat my purchase. I was taken back by this seeing that most places that are overhalled prior to the Groupon experation date will alllow you to schedule an appt as long as it was scheduled before the experation date. Well the receptionist would allow that and was pretty rude about the whole thing. I will say Groupon showed what a great company they are by refunding the money spent the moment I called! She went into a story about how they were really bust at first and then no one came until a month before hand. Well, I'm sorry lady that's your gamble you take with Grouponing. Dont you want people to have a great experience and come back another time at full price? I guess not. I got a living social voucher for a choice of 3 different facials. I ended up not getting a choice- when I entered the room she just told me we were doing an oxygen facial. I hadn't looked at the voucher in a while so I had forgotten that there were options. I feel a little bummed about that- but oh well... The facial was OK. Nothing exciting. It was only 30 minutes and for some reason I was under the impression that it was an hour. I may have been wrong. The spa was pretty nice- again, nothing too exciting. It was OK. I bought a Groupon for this place years ago, and since it was a bit far from where I live I ended up trying out a bunch of places closer to Wicker Park where I live over the past few years. I never forgot about my amazing experience there however and so I looked them up and they had another groupon running for a Gold Facial. I bought that and added two other spa treatments at the same time, and it was even better than I remember. Monika is so amazing, patient, and asks you really in depth questions about your skin and what you want to achieve, your skin care regimen, and gives you some good advice on how to care for your skin without being pushy about products etc. While the enzyme part of the facial was on my face, I got a full hand and forearm massage which I didn't expect, and it was so relaxing and lovely. The facial itself left my skin luminous.. seriously i woke up today and I am glowing. I'm done buying Groupons for different places at this point, I will ONLY go to Monika. The ambience of the place is tranquil and comfortable even if the area the spa is in is a bit lacking in charm. The rooms were the perfect temperature, and there was music pumped into each room which made it much more spa like than just a treatment facility. Everyone was nice and my facial started right on time and went the full amount of time. HIGHLY recommend... and I'm not sure what the other people on here are talking about that gave bad reviews. My wife and I purchased LivingSocial coupons for facials and it was a complete waste of time and money. We were rushed into brightly lit rooms, had apparently random products put on because they didn't ask what we needed and had them removed with cold wet towels. It felt like I was on the clock the entire time since everything was done with quick mechanical movements. In addition, as products were applied they clanked and washed containers. Rather than feeling like a valued patron, it seemed like I was a total inconvenience. Lastly, I could hear the tv from the lobby and conversations in the hall. This was the worst facial that I have received in 7 years. First, I was not given the usual survey about my skin. This was not a good sign. They simply asked me to sign a release form. I will say that when I was in the room itself, I was asked what my skin was like, but that didn't seem to really affect the facial itself. The aesthetician's movements were jarring and careless. I was not relaxed at all. Apparently their Gold Infusion Facial includes, wash, exfoliate, mask, moisturize. For their regular price...this is completely not worth it. Maybe because I used a Groupon, I was not treated as well as a full price payer is. Besides the facial itself, the music was not conducive towards any type of relaxation, the lights were extremely bright, and I could hear the receptionist, doorbell, basically everything. In addition, the aesthitician was extremely loud slamming cabinet doors while getting product out. Lastly, it felt like her primary objective was to sell products to me. I went to Ageless Med Spa two weeks ago for Botox injections. I was thrilled to receive a consultation for the same day, I even told them I would be about 10 minutes late and that wasn't a problem at all. When I arrived, 15 minutes late, they still saw me, provided me with new client forms, and were so polite. My consultation with Dr. Sypien was informative and not pushy at all, she explained the possible side effects as well the cost. I opted for Dysport instead of the Botox, primarily due to the quicker effects of Dysport and it's cheaper than Botox so that was an added perk! The injections were painless and quick. I went in on a Thursday and I saw results by Monday. My friends and family kept saying, you look refreshed, you are glowing, and there's something different about you! I am so pleased with my results, I had forehead injections and a few to my chin/lower mouth area. Monica even gave me a tour of the treatment rooms and a microdermabrasion spot sample. I absolutely LOVE this place. I started going here about 4 months ago in preparation for my wedding. I was attempting to combat acne and the esthetician that I saw recommended chemical peels. I was very hesitant at first because I thought it might be far too harsh a treatment for me. i had cellulite treatments with Kasia a few years ago. she is a pro and each week that i went in, I enjoyed hearing stories about her family and life in Poland. I looked forward to my session because she was my estetician. Shes very knowledgeable on many subjects and helped me reach my goal. If something doesn't work, she wont recommend it. if i owned my own spa, i would hire her to manage the place. She gets 5 stars but I gave the overall spa I gave this spa 2 stars because the doctor who injected botox into my jaw area put much more than needed which made me look very strange and lopsided. I ended up purchasing 2 syringes of filler from my old doctor who had to correct the mistake. My old doctor is in michigan which is why i went to Malgorzata Sypien, MD who is a general practice doctor. If you pick a doctor choose one who only does cosmetics.
