I first discovered this place around 2018 when my now wife and I were single young foodies living in Covington while she attended graduate school across the river at UC. We immediately fell in love with the franchise because of their incredible menu of innovative and delicious tacos. We moved south to southern KY, but they opened another location right down the road from my now sister in law in Louisville to keep their delicious menu in our consciousness. The food is always great. The location in the heart of Covington is the absolute best, however, because of the staff. Now a few years later, we have 2 rambunctious little girls ages 1 and 3. We came back tonight on vacation and were treated like royalty. I can't say enough about this place. The food. The entire staff. It's 5 stars. Would have been worth twice what we paid in my opinion read more

My fiance and I have been to Agave & Rye several times this summer and we have enjoyed our experience each time. We love every taco we have tried. My personal favorites are The Plain Jane, The Rooster, and The Rima D. We also can't wait for our amazing meals so we order an appetizer, the chips, and salsa. These are hands down the best tortilla chips I have had in any restaurant in the state and the salsa does not disappoint either. I highly recommend visiting Agave & Rye, I promise you won't regret it. Although be aware you must seat yourself and because of the number of tables available you could be waiting some time to be seated, but if the weather is nice you can always enjoy their outdoor seating. read more

After a bar customer experience last year, we thought we would give this restaurant another try. It was the same experience last night. They told us the wait would be 40 minutes. We waited outside for almost over 2 hrs until we finally left. In that time, we were trying to be patient and have a drink to occupy our time. However, the bartender was very rude and condescending the entire time like he was inconvenienced to place our order. Ultimately, we left and went to hotel Covington where we had an excellent experience. Also, if you are looking to get COVID you should go to Agave & Rye. Every table and bar seat was full and no one was wearing masks. My husband and I have both been vaccinated. Good luck if you're not. read more

We went to Agave & Rye for the first time since pre-covid this weekend and were extremely disappointed in the food. The guacamole tastes like rotten avocados and was sour, as well as the cheese on my boyfriends tacos. The food is not fresh at all. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place to get tacos. read more

Interesting take to tacos with a corn hard shell and flour tortilla. For the price the tacos were packed with meat and toppings! The chips had a sweet flavor which paired well with guacamole. Service wasn't the greatest. Our group was in around 2:30pm on a Sunday & not many people. Wait times for our check etc were pretty long, but other than that it was a quaint place. read more

They have specials on Tuesday nights on house Margs and tacos. It was very good. Will be going back again!

We were excited to try out this supposedly high end taco restaurant. Inside a sign says "seat yourself". There was nowhere to sit & no employee in sight. There was a bartender behind the bar. Did not see any food or any food being served for that matter. We left & went elsewhere as did others.Glad we did not pay the outrageous $10 parking fee in the public lot close by. Come on Covington. Yavonne we were there on Saturday 12/18/20 @ 6:15 pm. There was a party of about 6 waiting & were we're a party of 4. We don't mind waiting especially on a Sat night; but there were no employees anywhere to even ask how long of a wait there may be. We waited about 10 minutes before we realized we were wasting our time. Best wishes. read more

Great tacos and margaritas. I tried the one with fried chicken , sweet relish and Mac and cheese. It was so good I came back the next night for another. I'm going to miss this place. I was in the area for work but my assignment here is over now. Highly recommend. read more

Errrr....did not have a good experience here. We had a party of six and the service was slow slow slow. The bartenders and other servers were slow as well but other tables (including a six top) got their food well before we did, we waited over an hour for our tacos. Our waitress barely checked on us and we had to ask for water refills, she never brought out the guacamole or corn fritters we ordered, and she got my order wrong twice. She also told us there was a line for water so took almost 20 minutes to bring us water to begin with. The first time I told her I wasn't going to wait any longer and she said it would be really quick, which was surprising given we'd been waiting an hour already. It was quick but was still wrong so had to be switched out again. The food that did come out was cold - all of it. The only standout was the brussel sprouts but maybe because they were the only warm thing on the table. My friends had been before and had a good experience but I saw a slow, inexperienced wait staff. The food might be good but if you wait an hour for cold tacos it's hard to say. The pineapple margaritas were good but they need to get their service act together. read more

The place was small, and cute. The decor was a bit all over the plave, but I liked that about it. I couldn't believe how delicious the chips were, and I love that they had amazing vegetarian options. The taco's were so large, that I couldn't even finish the two I got. read more

Was there Sunday afternoon, we have been a few times and every time it gets worse. The crowd was small and the service was unacceptable . This area of Covington as well as the Main Strauss area has many..many other choices, our group will not be returning. The service is terrible, they make you feel like it is a inconvenience for being there. Unapproachable server's and bartenders . read more

our server Charlotte was attentive and friendly. the food was delicious with inventive flavors!

I do not recommend if you have food allergies as their staff is incompetent! Their menu has marked (V) (VG) (GF) so you would think they know how to take orders for these situations. I ordered 4 of their Greek goddess tacos to go, in person, and told the young girl with the green hair multi times, they needed to be gluten free and vegan, as I have Celiac Disease and dairy allergies. She said that's why it's marked on the menu. I asked why it was Vegan and vegetarian S it can't be both? She said it was vegan. My son and husband were right beside me and said they had to be gluten free and vegan. I get the order, am at a bar a few doors down for darts, and after taking a bite I realize no way it's gluten free or vegan!!! I went back to manager who apologized and remade my order, and gave me a $20 gift card (after paying $55 for food that made me sick). I now have rashes all over my forearms. I was up all night vomiting and still have diarrhea and may have to go to the hospital if it doesn't let up soon. I'll be contacting corporate as well. I know I take a risk anywhere I go, but when your staff doesn't listen or understand the menu to take an order, you have a huge problem!!! Do not recommend! read more

The restaurant does not take reservations nor do they have a wait list or a host or anyone managing their guests waiting for a table. Their policy is first come first serve which relies on the honesty of other guests. While I waited in line for 30 minutes, three separate parties behind me went ahead and aggressively took seats, out of turn. A manager did speak to one of the parties when I asked him to. They then decided to leave and I doubt they will be back. Just felt like a very hostile environment just so that I could enjoy a night out. Also seems like a cheap corner to cut by the restaurant. A part time hostess would help keep guests from walking away that night and forever because of this poor policy. read more

I wish I could say this place is great. I want to like it. The tacos are good- not great. As others have stated, they just don't seem fresh. Cold/ lukewarm. But the service the past 3 times I've gone has been enough to put me off this place forever. I tried to give them the benefit of a doubt multiple times but they've run out of chances. They served me the most watered down iced tea. As a server myself, I never would have even tried. It was insulting that she would even give this to anyone lol. I asked for water instead. She said ok and gave me a water and asked a coworker to brew more tea. Halfway through eating my tacos, someone gives me a tea. After my meal, I pay my tab. I had to ask for an itemized receipt and sure enough, they charged me for the tea. I guess it's fine, I did end up drinking half of it. But I was there for 30 minutes and only got it when I was halfway through eating. That's not everything that made the service bad, but a big part of it. A pretty long wait for 2 cold tacos. Overall, a very subpar experience. (I won't even go into my last 2 experiences because it's just too much to write. Suffice it to say, I'll never be back. There are too many other good options to choose from in the area. read more

Great little spot we found still open and serving food late during the week. Lindsey was fantastic and everything she recommended to us was great! From the local cream ale, to the guacamole and of course #6 The Alderman taco! I look forward to the next time I visit for work so that I can stop in here again. read more

This is a really cute restaurant! I loved the art on the walls and the chandeliers, it's definitely unique. I visited on Saturday. When we walked in, no one greeted us. There was a sign that said to seat ourselves, so we chose a booth in the corner by the bar. It took awhile for the waitress to come to our table. The waitress was friendly and answered our questions about the menu. We ordered chips and guacamole for an appetizer and a pitcher of margaritas, both were really good. I ordered the crown jewel taco which has a hard shell and soft shell, mac & cheese, lobster, mushrooms and crispy onions. I have to say this taco was disappointing. It was mostly just the mac & cheese, there were a few pieces of lobster and few mushrooms and I didn't notice the crispy onions at all. If I visit here again I definitely won't order this taco, but the margaritas give me a reason to give them another try. read more

The best tacos. The best service. The best waiter Nick from rookwood was amazing. Would come back any time.

Loveeeee this place! I always recommend to everyone! My favorite taco is the Bees knees and I love the queso

The staff here are obviously unhappy and openly vocalize how much they hate working here. In addition, if you don't agree with their recommendation they will berate you. The food is ok and the staff make the experience unbearable. Would not recommend coming here to anyone. read more

I came here with some friends for dinner and drinks. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside which was perfect, they have picnic bench style tables for the outside area. The inside area was very intricately decorated and looked nice as well. We started with the classic margaritas which were very tasty and strong (can't complain about that). We shared the chips and queso as a group. The chips are homemade and delicious. The queso was a little spicy but overall very good. The taco sizes are large-each taco comes with a hard and soft shell. I got the swipe right taco, again, a little bit spicy but overall very good. The chicken was fried perfectly. There were lots of taco choices to choose from so I will definitely be back to try more! This is a good spot to come with friends and families. The parking is street/lot parking like most Covington restaurants. read more

My wife and I recently had dinner at Agave & Rye. The restaurant was packed, but the staff did a good job of keeping up with everything. Although we were not greeted at the door, we did not wait too long before someone instructed us where to sit. After that, the waitress was prompt and attentive. We started with a cocktail. The Margarita was great and the bourbon cocktail I had was also very good. The best surprise was the tacos. Our table had a variety, and I sampled a few. Everyone was pleased with the quality of the food. Even the bread pudding we shared for dessert was decent. All-in-all, we had a great visit and will go back. read more

First time today and loved it.. had the Gator Hater taco. Good flavor, but a little too much rice and not enough sausage but still really good. My wife had street tacos. 1 fish and 2 chicken and they were very good. Will be back to try other ones read more

My husband and 2 small children came here on a whim around 5:30 on a Saturday evening. This is very vibrant restaurant, and while you can bring families here, it is not targeted toward that population. However, the manager went out of his way to make us feel welcome and make sure we had everything we needed. They were just starting to get busy and our waitress had a lot of tables sit down at once, but she did a great job managing it all, and apologized for our wait (I didn't think our wait was bad at all!). As for the food - oh my! It was unique and delicious. I highly recommend making this restaurant a MUST visit! read more

Some of the best tacos I have ever had! The graffiti wall art is amazing and really adds to the experience.

The food was good. When the queso cheese hits my mouth receptors I can't help but think "wow that is some good tasting cheese". There was a medley of flavors on my tongue, and then they descended onto my upper gut. And, as I write this, they are matriculating into my lower gut. I feel for once in my insignificant blip on this planet that I am alive for something other than reproduction. The meat and cheese of the birria tacos brought me back to an older time. I could see my ancestors smiling down upon me as they see me consume the main ingredients that they found comfort in not that long ago. I will be emptying my lower gut at the Hotel Covington across the street so as not to taint the receptacles of this establishment. The crystal-like chandeliers and mock velvet chairs are soft as I lay my bottom upon them. They don't validate parking. 4/5. read more
