Alright! A 100% vegan restaurant/cafe in Lyon! This is an exciting time. Against the Grain opened this week so it's brand new. They offer a plat du jour, a soupe du jour, cold drinks (juice, soda, and beer), coffee, and dessert. There are a couple of additional options if you're not into the "of the day" selection.
Today's plat du jour was spelt risotto with pumpkin (potiron) and hazelnuts so I had that. It came with a small salad of greens and red cabbage with dressing and sesame seeds. Other options on the menu were a celery root soup and a Thai satay dish with veggies and rice. Dessert options were a rice pudding, chocolate muffin, or chocolate chip cookie. I chose the muffin and tried the espresso.
The meal was tasty and not overly expensive. The risotto had nice chunks of pumpkin in it and was warm and filling. The chocolate muffin was okay but a bit on the small side, and the espresso was just your run-of-the-mill French cafe espresso. But overall, I was very satisfied. The lady helping behind the counter was super friendly too.
The plat du jour will run you 9€, the soup 4€. The muffins were 2.50€ and the espresso 1€. I've posted a picture of the menu so you can see their usual offerings and prices. Just FYI, the cafe itself is quite small. It seats about 15 people.
Anyway, I'm impressed so far and I hope this little restaurant gains a foothold in Lyon city life! Go out and support your tasty little vegan cafe. :) read more
