I am glad to find someone who knows how to properly cut hair as the two wonderful people I'd had in the past, retired. The shop is in the middle of town next to a Greek restaurant in Merrick on Merrick Avenue. They have a small selection of jewlery, honey and brickerbrack for sale in the front. Other than that, I consistently paid premium prices and trusted this salon (specifically Eleanor). Last month, I brought my daughter in for a keratin treatment. Both Eleanor & the owner clearly explained that it was not 100% guaranteed to get her hair to be straight and that it's a process that requires maintenance. I understood the risk & agreed to proceed. Eleanor spent about 2 hours on my daughter's hair and the cost was $200 + tip which I willingly paid. After one wash, her hair returned completely to its original frizzy state. I took photos & called to speak with Eleanor--not to ask for a refund, but simply to understand what happened and discuss a possible solution. Instead, I was met with unpleasantness, unprofessional attitude & defensiveness. Eleanor said, "I spent 2 hours on my feet doing your daughter's hair & we told you it's not guaranteed." I calmly repeated that I wasn't asking for my money back--just an explanation or guidance. I never called back again to discuss the keratin treatment because I felt she was so defensive and they will not offer me any other solution. A week later, when I called to book my usual root color appointment, I was told--after checking Eleanor's availability--that I was no longer welcome at the salon. After 7 years of loyalty and spending a significant amount of money, this is how I was treated for simply asking a question. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and respect for long-term clients is extremely disappointing. I do not recommend this hair salon to anyone. Their customer service and sense of loyalty to long-term clients are far below what you would expect from a professional business.

I last took my daughter to get her hair cut and permanently colored a bright red in Oct 2023. $380 later she ended up with: 1) A layer of her long thick hair was CUT BACK UNDERNEATH all the way to her scalp. We 100% did not ask for this thinning, or whatever was being attempted. It's ridiculous when she tries to wear her hair up. (see photo attached with 11 months of growth) 2) The red dye lasted maybe 3 weeks, even while using the shampoos and conditioners for red hair. It was supposed to be a permanent dye that was applied after the hair was lightened but apparently was not. I also had my hair cut here three times. Overall, meh. It's way too expensive for what they are providing, and the younger stylists seem not to want to be bothered with women over 50.

However, as my experience progressed, it became clear that their expertise was limited. Vanessa, the main stylist, seemed accommodating at first, inquiring about my desired haircut and style. I opted for a simple wash and blow-dry, given the texture of my hair. She seemed well-versed in different curl types since she asked if I came in for a DevaCut to bring out my curl definition. But things took a turn when she began working on my hair. My hair is 3C-4B, and I had undergone a keratin treatment 9 months prior. This means my hair is curly while wet, but manageable due to the treatment. Yolanda really shined during my appointment, helping to detangle and blow-dry my hair. Vanessa was extremely gentle while styling, but the skill level required for curly hair wasn't quite there. She added product after every section, and only used a single pass of the flat iron. I'm all for heat damage prevention but extra passes are often required for curls. Yolanda was amazing though; her technique tamed my locks to nearly straight perfection. My regular salon was closed so I took a chance here, which didn't pan out. The staff were sweet, so this isn't meant to be a reflection on their character, but rather about the quality of work they delivered on an unusually difficult client. A wash and blow-dry will cost you $35, but if your hair needs extra work there is an additional fee of $5. The pricing is still more than reasonable, however, be aware that if you have textured or curly hair you may end up needing to pay a bit more.
