This is an example of what dealing with any contractor should be. After much research I had decided to install the Hardie siding. I wanted to use a contractor who was familiar with the product and installed to James Hardie criteria and specifications. I went to James Hardie's website and searched for contractors that are designated as Elite Preferred. ACAE popped up and had impeccable reviews. Starting with the sales person, Joe, he thoroughly explained what they would do for me. He was knowledgeable and personable. There was absolutely no pressure whatsoever. The bid was higher than the others but after researching (ACAE) and speaking with Joe, I was convinced they were the company for me. In this case, you really get what you pay for. I was introduced to Josh, the Project Manager. Once again, very knowledgeable and personable. Very easy to work with and communicated with me on a daily basis. When problems cropped up, he was always there to offer suggestions on how to proceed. His crew, led by Nikolay with Rosty and Eugene, did amazing work. The workmanship is impeccable; the crew was very organized and professional. They always made the worksite safe and clean; leaving everything spotless when they left at the end of the day. I can't emphasize enough the quality of their work. It was just beautiful. The paint crew, led by Vladimir, once again did unbelievable work; totally transforming the appearance of an already exquisite job. Although color decisions were ultimately mine, Vladimir was always willing to offer a suggestion as to which color to use on a particular area. (I had selected four colors for the primary on the house, secondary for the house, trim and the doors.) These individuals collectively transformed my house (a basic ranch) into a home that I am proud to show off. In summation, I would highly recommend A Cut Above Exteriors if you want premium quality work on your home. You can probably get a siding job done cheaper but I truly believe you get what you pay for. Superior had a competitive price, but it was the way they handled the bid process that sold us. Matt was knowledgeable and very unsalesman like. He didn't pressure me or make a hard sale and was patient while we decided how to move forward with this very major project. He just patiently and efficiently answered every question either in person or over text and email. Alanna in the office was great at communicating throughout - from start to finish. She confirmed our appointment for the bid, even sending me a picture of Matt beforehand so I'd know who to expect, then sent me many informational guides, forms, receipts, etc. throughout the process. She never missed a beat and was so understanding and helpful while I tried to choose paint colors - helping out where my colorblind husband could not! Our house turned out to be a rotten mess with no insulation beneath the original siding, and Matt and his crew really problem solved to help us get it fixed without going too far out of our budget. They made it manageable. When we decided how to move forward, they got it done quickly and correctly. It turned out to be a much bigger project than we expected, but our house is in such better shape now, and we've already noticed a difference in our electricty bill. I was looking at bids from multiple companies, and SES stood out as one of the most competitive on price -- but what ultimately won my business was their flexibility and great communication both with me and between the various roles within the company. Artie was endlessly patient with my many questions during the initial discussion phase and showed flexibility and creativity in solving problems as we hammered out the plan for my exterior remodel. Both he and Matt (my project manager) showed a willingness to resolve my every concern to make sure I was happy with the result. When I interacted with the company office, both Michelle and Alanna impressed me with their clear communication and friendly demeanor. This really is a quality operation; they're honest and they stand by their work. The crew who came out to do the installation were amazing, showing that same level of professionalism and customer orientation. Mark, who headed up the installation crew on site, went above and beyond to make sure we had shared vision about trim and other details around some of the "quirky" places on my older home. Of course, the quality of the workmanship was excellent -- SES is an Elite Preferred Hardie installer, and it shows! -- but where they really shine is in their communication and relationship style. Both the siding installation and the painting were completed ahead of schedule, and the couple of small change orders we did were negotiated generously and in good faith. The work the crew did was exactly what was promised, and the windows work great. I stopped by one afternoon to check on them, and the house was open. The windows were out, the holes weren't boarded up, and there was no one there. I came in, and just stood there, totally stunned. I was there for a little over 15 minutes before anyone comes out. My home is on a main road, I've had issues with packages missing off my porch, I can only imagine what might have happened if someone feeling thefty had walked by and just seen the whole side of the house open. I called, and the reaction was 'Oh, they must have just gone for lunch'. Lunch? With my home open? They even left a ladder pulled up, so someone could have just hopped in. Apparently this is just how they do business, because both the owner on the phone and the workers (when they returned from getting coffee) just shrugged like it was no big deal. Also, when the work was done (which I had to call myself to find out about, there were no updates, no progress reports, and no notification when the work was completed) I went to check it out and the back door to the basement was unlocked. So anyone could have entered the house through there at any time between the completion of the job(which again, no notification) and when I went to check on it. So down one star for leaving the house open and the door unlocked, and one for shrugging and not taking my concerns seriously. Again, the windows work fine now, but I don't appreciate them being so lackadaisical about my home being secure when they weren't present.

Background: Our Ravenna Tudor needed a new roof. The old roof shingles were probably the cheapest…read moreasphalt, and when we would have the roof cleaned, the cleaners were saying that they were significantly decayed. We contacted 4 companies, and received 3 quotes. Tekline came out but never quoted. The most expensive quoter got on the roof, and wanted an absurd amount of money because he said the pitch was so steep, and then started talking about permitting (which isn't required for residential roofs). The least expensive (the top rated company here on yelp) came in at an absurdly low price after doing a once over with a drone. I know a little about material costs, and they said the job would take 3 days minimum, and unless they were paying their guys less than minimum wage, their quote made no sense. I found Orlando through a reddit discussion board, where a guy who owned a few commercial buildings said that Rivera Roofing did a good job for him and also did residential. Orlando is the owner, and he came out, climbed out on the roof and explained what was going on, what he would do, gave us a quote that made sense. We also discovered that the previous roof install did not include soffits. Instead, they had put a bunch of box vents (exhale), and then a ridge vent (also exhale), a combination that did not let proper air circulation. He suggested smart vents (inhale) and ridge vent (exhale). He also suggested Malarkey as a superior product. We went with him, and we are glad we did. When his crew pulled back the old roof, the osb wasn't properly fitted along the valleys, with all sorts of small pieces jury-rigged in to small gaps. There was also mold on the board, and really the only thing saving us from leaks and a major disaster was that the pitch of the roof was so steep. We replaced all the OSB with new plywood, redid the trim around the skylights, put in the Malarkey Windsor Architectural shingles, the new venting system, and the house looks great. The crew worked hard, and Orlando checked in at every step of the process. His nephew ran our crew and communication was great and the work seemed really thorough, as was the cleanup. We used Tekline on our previous house in Montlake, and I have to say the process and the pricing with Rivera was more to our liking.
