Big Waste of Time. My first time to a pick and pulll yard and I was really let down by this place…read more I got off work early to get there before they closed and even called ahead of time to confirm they had the vehicle I needed. They said they did. I show up, talked to the front desk and waited to talk to a rep. The old man I talked to had leather wrinkled skin with not one bit of enthusiasm or empathy for me explaining it was my first time. I saw him being short to the customer in front of me. Someone needs to get this grumpy guy out from behind the desk. Anyways, he tells me they don't have my Lexus Rx but apparently the part I needed was compatible on a Highlander. So he points me in the direction at the end of the lot to find the vehicle by myself. I knew better than to try my luck asking for someone to walk me out. I go, I look, I can't find the white Toyota he showed me a picture proving they had. I find another Highlander but it's not the same year, neither has the same part on it. I call the front desk to get a better understanding instead of walking back with all my tools to do so... they answer and put me on a 12 minute hold before I hung up the phone. I stand puzzled and soon find a lot forklift driver to help me out. Surprisingly he was very patient and helpful with my questions. That was a relief. He tells me the car I'm looking for isn't in the lot because it's new and needed to be staged. He tells me ten minutes but i waited in the location with the other highlanders thinking he would bring the new one to me in ten minutes. Well it took me 25 minutes to find him bring it in to the front of the lot. Again the caliper on the Toyota did not match the one on my Lexus and I wasn't going to risk paying for a part that is said to be compatible. What should have been a successful 1.5 hr trip turning into 3.5 hour let down. I don't like leaving reviews but because I've already wasted so much time what more is a deserving review of this place. Fix your front office! I will say this review probably won't matter because they do well from an operation standpoint by having a large lot and wide selection however I'm still going to be bitter, leave this review and try my luck with other places.

The staff is pretty friendly, and straight forward, but they get pretty busy so there are times they can be short with you. Wait times can vary, but I've spent almost an hour each time waiting for them to pull parts for inspection. Pricing is reasonable and so far everything I've purchased has been working without any issues. Will definitely keep going back if they have parts I need in stock.

But through a series of referrals, I finally got to Black Diamond Auto Wrecking, who were recommended by a local Portland wrecking yard. Black Diamond had the window for my particular car, and the price, including $60 to ship it, was around $136. I ordered it in the late afternoon on a Monday and I had it by Wednesday evening. I believe I spoke with Mike and he was polite and efficient. The service was generally excellent and I greatly appreciate their help. The only drawback was reaching them. Sometimes I had to call them several times to get to a live person. There were times that no one answered the phone. There were other times when the phone went to a message machine that could, at times, get you into an endless loop. At other times, the message machine would put you on hold briefly until someone answered. It was kind of inconsistent and something I'd suggest the company improve. Otherwise, they were great and the window they sold me, now installed, is working perfectly.

Here are my two standout experiences... A while back my car said it was overheating. I stopped by a Grease Monkey and they said I needed a new part that they would have to order and gave me a deadline. I was very suspicious of this . I then went to Burien Truck Repair and they told me they would look and charge me a diagnostic fee. In the end, they didn't need a new part, it just needed to be cleaned. They did that, lumped the diagnostic fee into the repair since they actually did it and saved me $200-300. They also gave me a ride to work while I waited! Next! Biggie! Things have been rough and my plate was stacked. I was pulling into the dentist last week and I suddenly heard the most horrendous noise. I was expecting to see a pipe dragging. Very flustered, I went in and the hygienist said she heard it too. I called BTR and Christy had me hold my phone out and drive back and forth a bit. She said that sounded terrible and, while they were about to close, rush over. I pulled in, getting many WTF looks. Christy ran over with another guy saying she heard it from the back. They immediately looked at it and said it wasn't safe to drive home and said they'd be on it first thing...and AGAIN gave me a ride! I got a call around 9 and...it was a rock. I drove over a rock and it wedged itself up behind my tire. The charge? $0! Wholly moly! So basically they are the best, not just in customer service and car repair, but hi just all around standout people. I can not express this enough. In February 2020 I came to Phil with a basic build for a 1995 Miata turbo engine. It required basic…read moremachining like line honing and boring the cylinders for oversized pistons and a head skim. Throughout the process Phil caused numerous delays, lost parts, and let the work drag on. It was nearly 6 months, in August 2020, before Phil returned the completed longblock to me. While running low boost during break in, a freeze plug popped out. My tuner and I suspected that the head had lifted due to improper installation, in which Phil was paid to do. This would allow compression to get into the coolant cavities and force that plug out. Phil was accommodating and replaced the plug. However, when the plug was replaced the motor had low compression so I specifically asked Phil to test the head. He never tested the compression but "fixed the compression issues" (at my expense) and gave the car back saying the compression was good. He and his partner mechanic claimed the compression was off due to the timing belt being two whole teeth off! Two days after driving the car again, another freeze plug popped out. The car went back into their care and custody in which they decided to blame the tune that the car has been running absolutely fine on throughout its whole life before that engine was built and during. Phil and his mechanic claimed this tune destroyed my engine and I would have to source a whole new block! Subsequent diagnoses by a separate, trusted, machine shop and tuner proved that the gasket blew between all cylinders and into the coolant cavities. There was absolutely no detonation or any potential tune related issues. The trusted shop has examined the head and stated "all valves are leaking and have sealing issues. This could be due to a lack of proper valve guide issues or other valve concerns. The cylinder head is already well below minimum thickness before any additional machine operations were begun." Phil machined, assembled and installed this head and was specifically told it came off an engine that had overheated so we needed to make sure it didn't get skimmed too much. The piston rings were not properly gapped causing the rings to buckle and melt the pistons. The oil squirters were not installed correctly and were found in the oil pan. This was all discovered by a different shop. His neglect and inability to work with his customers caused over a year of wasted time. His lack of craftsmanship and inability to take accountability for his work has left me with an inoperative and expensive engine that has never run correctly since he rebuilt it. This is one part shout out and one part cautionary tale about a recent car repair experience. On…read moreJuly 2nd my work truck had an issue with the electrical system. I tried several different part replacements on my own, but I couldn't figure out what the issue was nor do I have the proper diagnostic equipment to trace it. I admitted to myself I had reached my limit of skill and should take it into a shop. I had been to Ty's on Delridge a couple of times before for tune ups and such with no issues, so I booked an appointment online for Monday July 6th and had it towed in first thing. Ty's is now "Westside Automotive" under new ownership and the new owner assured me they would look at it and let me know what the issue was. On Tuesday afternoon I stopped by in a rental car to grab a couple of things out of my car and he said they would get around to looking at it that day and I said great and left. I didn't hear anything by Thursday and texted them for an update. They answered that they thought it was a ground issue and they would look at it some more on Friday. (You can see the texts) Anyway, kept driving by, kept seeing my car just sitting there and you can see in the texts I had to reach out on Wednesday the 15th and again on Thursday the 23rd. That day the new owner just straight called me and told me he can't do anything for me. Acted like I was bothering him and inconveniencing him. Asked him when he was planning on telling me he couldn't do anything, he said "I'm telling you now". What a great business model he has for his new local shop. Good news is I stopped by Eric's on Roxbury the next day (last Friday afternoon), they made an appointment for me to tow it in first thing on Monday- THEY HAD IT IN AT 9:30 AM AND CALLED ME AT 1:00 PM SAYING IT WAS FIXED AND READY TO GO 3 freakin' weeks renting cars so I can keep up with my work schedule and commitments because I know what an asset a good reputation is in this community and it's fixed in TWO HOURS. SHOUT OUT TO ERIC'S IMPORT AND DOMESTIC SERVICE and BEWARE THE NEWLY DUBBED "WESTSIDE AUTOMOTIVE"
