I've been attending Lyra classes here for over a year, and it's the highlight of my week! Arisa teaches the class, and often Mina subs in. I adore both teachers and their styles. Arisa's classes focus more on perfecting basics and solidifying foundations, and she structures the classes to introduce a routine that we add on to over a few weeks. Mina's classes are often introducing new shapes, moves, and transitions. Spinning is always optional but strongly encouraged :) Regardless of the instructor, these classes leave me sore for a few days. They have three hoops of three different sizes, and they can quickly go between having the hoops low or high. It's also a max of 6 students, which is the perfect size. You can always get on your hoop of preference, and you may even find you prefer different hoop sizes for different moves. Apart from the classes and their physical challenges, aerial arts can be mentally challenging and quite intimidating from the outside looking in. Lyra classes under Arisa and Mina's instruction have not only been good for my physical health -- I'm so much stronger than last year! -- but it's also helped strengthen my mental health and confidence. If you're on the fence, I encourage you to try it out and to keep coming back. The environment fostered in this studio is uplifting, supportive, and inspiring. They have a rule, "No negative self talk," and everyone masterfully navigates this in a way that leaves you feeling better about yourself, even if you're on the struggle bus. The team has done a great job building a supportive community here and I'm so happy to have found this studio. Lastly, parking is easy here as they have a well-sized parking lot. I've only once had to find street parking, and luckily, this part of the neighborhood has ample and free street parking if needed (which is rare). Yes, there are some RVs parked on the street nearby, but the people who live there keep to themselves, and I have yet to hear of any problems. read more

This is my favorite aerial studio in LA!! I've been coming here for years and have always had a great class experience. I love the smaller class sizes (6 people max for hammock and silks) because the teachers are able to provide lots of individual attention. It's a friendly and encouraging atmosphere even if you don't know anyone else in the class. Oh and can we talk about how clean it is?! This is not always the case with other aerial studios. When my friend first told me that she was gonna sign up for an aerial silks class and that she wanted me to come, I honestly was pretty terrified. First of all, there was definitely the elephant in the room that aerial silks has mostly female clientele. I'm not the type to be totally insecure about gender norms, but nevertheless I was intimidated and was unsure if I would be able to fit in. I actually ended up going with two of my female friends, and at no point during our time at Aerial Physique did I feel uncomfortable. It was a really welcoming environment with a super nice staff who made sure to explain everything. As for our time with the silks themselves, I have to say it's definitely something you're gonna have to practice. My biggest problem was using too much of my arms instead of really leveraging my thighs and legs. Once my friends and I got some sort of a technique down, though, it was super fun to get up high in the air and suspend. It didn't feel dangerous at any point, but you certainly have to be focused so that you don't fall down. Pictures are also totally fine, but I guess we were so into it that we didn't take any. Afterward, we went to go grab some beer and Korean Fried Chicken, so I would say our Aerial Physique experience was A1. Tips: 1. Arrive a little before your class time. You just don't want to be scrambling around and rushing. 2. They have little cubbies you can put your belongings in which is right behind the front desk, so it felt safe. I recommend bringing a bag or purse to keep your things in. 3. It's at first sort of hard to figure out which door to enter, but it's basically a warehouse/office-looking exterior. Check the doors, and you will figure it out. 4. Wearing tights is a good idea as opposed to looser clothing IMO. Maybe the experts know exactly what to wear, but as a beginner I was glad I decided to wear more tight-fitting clothes so that I wouldn't get tangled up. read more

I took my first ever aerial silks class at Aerial Physique almost 9 months ago and I fell in love with it immediately! Here are a few things I love about Aerial Physique: 1. Super beginner-friendly! All the instructors are really good at catering the class to the skill level of the people attending. Their intro level classes are perfect for first-timers, and it's recommended to take that class a few times until you build up enough strength to move on. 2. Safety and technique is huge here, more so than any other studio that I've been too. I always feel incredibly safe and I trust my teachers with my life (literally). 3. Classes are capped at 6 people, so you get a lot of personalized instruction and attention. Sure, it might cost a few bucks more than other studios in the area, but I'd rather attend a smaller class (at this still-reasonable price point) than pay just a few bucks less to take a class with 10 other people. 4. The community! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming to newcomers! I quickly felt like I had a place at the studio and since I attend classes a few times a week, my instructors are super proactive in helping me train to reach my goals and push me to get stronger and better. 5. The studio has two physical levels, so the silks on the first level are really tall - I think around 30 feet? The ceilings here are some of the highest I've seen. The second level is a loft where the classes usually focus more on technique and skills. 6. Cleanliness! The studio is always really clean and they make sure to wash the silks before they ever smell too funky - which is hard to do considering all the students that take classes there every single day lol. 7. Plenty of free street parking right outside. Like anywhere in LA, it can get a little sketchy at night, but we tend to walk out in groups and we're always able to find parking literally right outside the studio gate, so we've never had any problems. I've been to a lot of local aerial studios so I am going to name all of the reasons why this studio, one of the most expensive per class, is not worth your time. 1) Instructors are very green, and seem inexperienced, do not look to be pushed to new heights. They will discourage you from doing basic maneuvers if they do not think you are ready. I am very much a scaredy cat of heights and definitely don't need help avoiding risky maneuvers. I am extremely good at that, hence I have never broken a bone or had an aerial injury, but somehow these instructors feel it necessary insult your intelligence and keep you from doing things you've done successfully in the past. 2) They blame their poor instruction on safety concerns. My safety concern is that they never use crash mats on the upper level where they teach beginner and first time aerial silks. Safety is a no brainer, but they have none. 3) There are no mirrors in the small studio to watch your form. Yes, I can record myself, but nothing is better than the immediate feedback of seeing how I look in the air. 4) most $$$$$ aerial studio in the area 5) poorly located in a very sketch neighborhood, and the traffic getting there is absolutely awful unless its a weekend. 6) lighting on the upper level glares into your eyes. Great to get use to stage lights, but not if you never want to be on stage. 7) dirty mats feel sticky with visible dust. 8) there is some unwritten code that you're supposed to ask the instructor if you can go from the first timers class to the beginners class. Sounds silly right. First timers class should be for first timers and beginners class should be for beginners. If you stay in the first timers class you learn about the same thing every week. 9) they think it's just about strength. Guess what, it's not. Yes, of course you have to have a certain amount of upper and lower body strength, but chances are if you're male or a short thin female certain maneuvers are going to be easier. It's physics!!! But don't tell these bright bulbs that. Part of why most female gymnast are short and thin. They self select. I feel like Jill's studio like's to single out and select as well. Something in my gut told me to not get an unlimited monthly pass to this studio, and I am so glad I listened to it. Yes Jill, don't worry, definitely don't need any luck or well wishes to find excellent aerial studios in L.A. Oh man! What can I say about this place? I take the intro to silks class with Shelly every two weeks and I'm obsessed! I've even taken friends here to take classes with me and I always feel so empowered after class. Shelly does an amazing job of making this class accessible to ANYONE who comes in. My classmates have been people of all ages, sizes, and abilities. I took this class originally to focus on building anyyyyy upper body strength at all and I can't believe how quickly I am improving and how quickly into class 1 Shelly got me to try things that scared me. I want to start off by saying if you are adventurous, outgoing, and willing to go for it, this is the perfect place for you! My friend decided to try something a little different for her birthday and I am always down to try something new so I happily accepted her invitation. I knew this was going to be interesting. We made reservations for an hour and a half for beginner lessons. Our instructors name was Jill and guys this lady is truly amazing at this art! She made the class so lively and fun! Before this class I couldn't imagine myself swinging upside down from fabric but I faced it like a champ and I definitely feel like a bada$$!! It is also a great workout! I bought a Groupon last year for six classess and initially thought I signed up for anti gravity yoga. Though I was completely wrong I was glad that I stumbled upon a new adventure. My first three classes were at the Inglewood location but in the new year they changed to the Los Angeles location. Aerial Physique is the best! I've taken 7 classes so far, mostly with Lindsay, but one class each with Nafeesa and Jill. They're all excellent instructors; super patient and knowledgable. In the past two months, I've seen huge improvements in my strength and endurance, and now I'm working on expanding my skillset in the beginner class. I had been wanting to try silks for a long time, and finally took the plunge after doing some research and finding this studio. And I'm so glad I did! I was mostly new to aerial when I started at AP, I had already taken a few classes at other gyms closer to the west side where I live that didn't feel like a fit. My experiences elsewhere were discouraging, I never found anything I would consider beginner friendly - I couldn't seem to do anything and didn't get any attention from instructors. I was so grateful to find Aerial Physique, the reason they have a first timers class is so you feel confident in the safety basics and enough strength to move up. The instructors are amazingly talented and friendly - with only 6 people max per class, they really pay attention to what you're doing to offer help and support and direction. Aerial is hard! Having a welcoming environment to learn in and proper attention and help has made all the difference! Plus, the space is clean and aesthetically pleasing. I've been coming to Aerial Physique for a little while now, and I really like it here. The classes are fun and extremely beginner-friendly, and everyone is really supportive even if you start out as a total weakling. I've been to two other studios as well and Aerial Physique is my favorite. The two main instructors I've had are Nafeesa and Lindsay. Nafeesa is an amazing instructor who has a remarkable ability to break down each skill and explain the exact movements you need to do. Her specificity is incredibly helpful especially as a beginner. I also like Lindsay a lot - she excels at pushing you to new levels and helping you achieve things you didn't think you could. For the intro level classes, I would recommend taking your first class with Nafeesa, and then alternating between her and Lindsay. Also I have to say I completely disagree with Jeannette's one-star review, to the point that I feel like we went to different studios. All the instructors are highly experienced and are very encouraging about pushing you to try new things. While the intro class does cover the same skills every time, this is by design, as you are meant to stay in the intro class only as long as it takes you to master those skills and then you can move up to beginner. That way they can be sure that everyone in the beginner class can handle the basic building blocks so that you're ready for more variety. That makes sense to me and I really like that it's structured that way. Safety is always a priority and crash mats (which are clean) are always used, including on the upper level. Yes there are no mirrors, but they provide phone stands so you can record yourself. (I think this is even better because honestly, I've been in a studio with mirrors and it's impossible to look at them when you're contorting yourself through the air. With a recording you can study yourself a lot better.) And as for price, no it is not the most expensive in the area, it's pretty average. My only criticism is that I wish the beginner classes were at more convenient times. The intro classes seem to have a much better schedule, and I feel like it should be the opposite because you don't stay at intro level for very long. But I guess that's a good criticism to have if I'm asking for *more* classes! read more

After a few years of not doing silks, I took the beginners class at Aerial Physique. From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted with warm and welcoming faces. The space is just right for the amount of silks and the class was a very inviting and intimate setting. My instructor Gabe was extremely patient with me! I used to be in intermediate silks back home, but decided to do the beginners because I wasn't sure how rusty I was. It was safe to say that I was very rusty and needed every bit of advice and help that he so graciously offered. The instructors are carefully trained and selected, methodical, safe, and incredibly talented - not to mention hilarious and wonderful to be around. I had a wonderful experience at aerial physique. I recently travelled from NY to LA for vacation and had set up a couple of private lessons with Jill while I was in the area. The new location is beautiful and huge and was probably the freshest smelling aerial studio I have been to. Jill was very friendly and encouraging while showing me some new tricks and climbs. I have being doing silks for a while now and I loved how she was micro managing certain things to make me more successful at silks. Not once did she make me feel bad for struggling with learning something new. She was very patient and if she saw any inkling of me getting frustrated we moved on. I have been a student of Jill's for a little over a year, and have moved with her studio from her old location in Santa Monica to this new one. All of the teacher's are amazing, so you really can't go wrong, and the BIGGEST plug to the location move is that the ceilings are twice as high!! I've been to a few other studios in both LA and NY, and I feel the safest with Aerial Physique. Many other locations are over crowded, and when learning new tricks, I feel like it's important to have more individual attention since there's no harness, just a landing pad. Also more importantly is how every teacher can break down a trick and walk you through each step. Bonus points if you can warn me when something might pinch or rub (I'm a wuss)! read more

The ceilings are so much higher so now we're able to do a bunch of different drops and other things that we couldn't do with the lower ceilings. Class size is still small enough (6 max) to have that personalized attention which I think is really important for a class like this. And all the teachers and really nice and patient. I've been taking aerial silk classes for a couple months and have floated around different studios in Los Angeles trying to find the right one for me, I keep coming back to Aerial Physique because I think they have the best teachers and the classes feel very rounded. The new space is incredible, the warehouse ceilings give you more than enough space. I have worked with Jill and Kylie, both skilled teachers, accommodating each person's individual needs and the classes are small enough that you really get a lot of one on one practice. I am still a beginner but leave the class feeling strong and confident thanks to the way the classes are set up. You do work that conditions you as well as learning manageable tricks that you thought you couldn't do! Within just a couple of months I have noticed a drastic difference in the way my body feels both in strength and flexibility. In addition, I think it is the community of Aerial Physique that makes this such a magical workout. I'm so glad that I found this studio! I recently moved to LA from Chicago where I had taken aerial silks classes for a little over a year. I needed to find a new studio after I moved to LA and didn't really know where to start. I looked online, tried a few classes around town, and eventually found Aerial Physique. I've been taking classes here regularly since then and I love it! This studio is great because there are several class levels, classes offered in the evenings and on weekends (great for my work schedule), and fairly high ceilings. Yes! Yes ! Yes! After a not so great experience at another aerial silks studio, i decided to give Aerial Physique a try. I had my first into class last night ans it was AWESOME! The instructor I had ( Ayten) was such a doll! She was really fun,patient,and encouraging. The studio itself it pretty cool! It's kind of easy to miss ( I did like 6 U turns back and forth until I finally found it) but once you find it, you can easily find parking and stuff. The class was small, it was 5 of us in total so Ayten was able to easily assist us if we needed any adjustments . It was kind of split up by level, some of us were able to climb the whole silk and some weren't even able to do the basic climb and needed more practice and instruction( me.lol) I was so happy once I left the class and I had a horrible horrible terrible day immediately before arriving ( i locked myself out of my car at the gas station on the way there and ended up super dee duper late.smh) I signed up for some more classes soon!can't wait to see myself make progress! read more

I attended the Int/Adv Aerial Silks class with Jill. She is very friendly, patient and encouraging. I find that some aerial schools can be quite rigid and militant in their structure and teaching approach. Aerial Physique allows for more freedom, creativity and expression. Coming from a dance background, I also found the atmosphere here more relatable and comfortable. We went at a nice pace and the other students in the class were very supportive. This is a solid, solid program. Top tier aerial school in LA in teaching quality, structure and curriculum. Compared to some of the other LA studios: * Overall, I feel this place is similar to Kerry Wee's aerial program @JJ's? I think both programs have set curriculums and progressions, and similar proactive teaching styles. * In terms of structure and teaching quality, Aerial Physique is also similar to Cirque School LA. Both lay out strong fundamentals, but I believe Aerial Physique has a stronger, more systematic curriculum and its silks specific. * Because it isn't open level, and because class size is kept small, I feel you get personal attention at Aerial Physique and don't get lost, as you would at Aerial Warehouse or HAA. * Obviously if you want the well-rounded approach, Kinetic Theory or Cirque School will do the trick. If you want a silks specific program: between Kerry's and Jill's place, Jill's is probably a bit more accessible and 1-2-3, Kerry's place has a huge emphasis on conditioning. But both emphasize strong fundamentals, so I really value that. * HAA is changing, and there are awesome instructors there, but taking your first class with certain instructors might kill you. Jill's program is just as good, but teaches beginners. Pros: - I value structure. I like that in the intro class, there is structure. I like that in the beginning class, there is structure. I like that there is an instructor directing curriculum with long-term progressions in mind, versus everyone kind of doing what they want. I like that basics are taught with long-term goals, and that the curriculum builds on things. I like that the classes aren't open-level, so everyone is working on similar things. I personally prefer this systematic teaching approach by level, versus the approach they have at Evolve or Infit, where people just try random stuff. - They have much higher ceilings at their new place. - Student/silk ratio: 2/1 usually - I think Jill is a first-rate teacher. (Based on Laura Wittner's aerial blog [http://www.laurawitwer.com/2016/06/23/heck-proficiency-aerial-teaching-anyway/] I think Jill is somewhere between a Professional Petunia and an Elite Eloise) Cons: - Pricier than HAA and Womack & Bowman. She explains things in a way that it makes sense, which is helpful for when it feels like I'm playing twister in the air and I don't want to get stuck. What's great is that even though there are different class levels, Jill is mindful of our individual skills and teaches accordingly. What an awesome studio! I've been to a couple other aerial studios in LA and this has by far the best instruction. Directions are step-by-step which makes them very easy to follow and there's a lot of individualized attention. In general, silks classes are a lot of fun and are great for strengthening muscles and improving body control and form, and there is a lot of emphasis on these aspects at this studio.
