I've been coming to this dance studio in Ktown for almost 3 years and it still is to this day my favorite dance studio in LA! I love the vibes here. From the aesthetic to the instructors to the students themselves, this place has a welcoming atmosphere to all dance levels and I feel comfortable to explore dancing with all the different styles of dance they offer. Their social media presence is also great! They are constantly updating their social media (Instagram) with up to date info on each week's/day's classes such as the instructor or the song/combo they'll be teaching. The linked website is also relatively easy to use and it's pretty simple to register for classes. I mainly come for the Hip-Hop and Kpop classes they offer and I enjoy them a lot! Coming into the studio, they check you in and have you wait in the comfy waiting area before the class starts. The dance studio itself is pretty roomy and there's long mirrors up front. They also offer other dance studio spots at the property that you can rent out for private rehearsal or 1:1's. For rates it's usually $20-$25 for a 1 hour 30 min class depending on the instructor and what they're teaching. The classes usually take place from 6pm - 10:30pm (3 classes a night) during the week and another 3 classes from afternoon to night on Saturday's. For parking, it's street parking but I'd say it's relatively easy to find a spot nearby. If you're in LA, I'd definitely recommend hitting this place up for a class or 2! read more

First time coming here. I would suggest getting there early to find parking. There is metered that's free after 6 or you can find neighborhood. It is K-town so make sure you don't leave anything in your car. The dance studio is on the corner. Immediately, my friend and I were greeted by a really nice girl with long hair. She was really personable and asked my friend if this was our/ her first time. The other guy next to her was checking me in. Unfortunately, minus 1 star from his cold welcoming. Not sure if he was just letting her talk, but I always like to say hi and he said nothing. Barely was audible when he asked for my name. Kinda whack, guy, if you're reading this. Other than that, there's a waiting area with a few couches. I did like how we were all escorted as a group to the room. The intro the workers presented was super informative. They also come in at the end and make sure you know where to go, if you need water, and help expedite the next class. The thing that blew me away the most is that they offer to walk you to your car at night. That is so great and I appreciate that. Bianca, the instructor was so freaking cool. I love the way she taught. I felt at ease. I use dance as a cross train to martial arts so I loved letting go. She knew her stuff. She has an infectious warm energy. One of the most pleasant surprises of 2024 included becoming a regular at Ruts. I literally had 0 dance experience, but the welcoming vibes and community made it easy to keep coming out. It is kind of cute how everyone cheers for and high fives each other, and you start to recognize and make friends with other regulars. Some of my favorite instructors include Anthony, Eri, Grant, Tyler, Crystal, Diny, and Eileen. Diny and Eileen actually own the studio, and you can tell how much they care about their craft and people. The front desk people are so nice and even offer to walk to you to your car! I LOVE RUTS!!! They are one of the only dance studios in LA that offer true BEGINNER classes that are taught by professional, experienced dancers. A lot of the classes feel grounded in hip-hop, but each instructor brings their own flavor and teaching style. The classes are always aptly categorized by level. I truly believe a dancer of any level - day 1 to 20 years - could come to Ruts and have a positive experience. The best part of Ruts though is the community. Love that the teachers are soo professional yet humble. There isn't a competitive or pretentious environment at this studio. I felt very well taken care of, especially for a beginner dancer. Tips: parking can be tough at times. This is Koreatown! Parking and traffic is tough in general in LA. So come earlier or just Uber. Don't threaten this small business if you fail to read the terms and conditions when making a purchase. They aren't a corporation with loads of cash. It takes a lot of work to run a business, especially one that cares a lot for quality dance techniques. Instead, always try to take responsibility for own actions and choices. It makes it easier on the community and shows maturity for self. I had a 10 class package and only redeemed 1 class because I was busy and it's a bit of a drive. Now it's expired. But guess what? NGL I'm basic and only came here because they offered Kpop dance classes. Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed. I've taken kpop classes from Soobin and Aaliyah and have had a great time learning the choreo from my fave kpop music videos. I like this place over other studios in LA because the people who go here are not the scary competitive types. There's another studio in west LA that offers Kpop but those people are trying to become professional dancers or something because the vibes are fierce. Love that for them but if you're just a casual learner like me, then Ruts is the place for you to get your Kpop dance fix! Kpop dance classes are never one difficulty level. It entirely depends on the song/dance and the segment the instructor picks. These are NEVER starter foundation classes so be prepared for that. They are always beginner to intermediate and sometimes even intermediate to advanced level dance classes. Best way to check is to follow the instructors instagrams and see. The studio also posts it on their IG. I can't speak on the other dance class types but here are my praises for these two instructors: Soobin generally teaches girl group songs which are normally beginner to intermediate choreography levels. These are great for starting out. I've found she typically strives to teach you longer segments of the choreography so you can take it back and flex on social media. She's super welcoming and always has us greet other people in class so we're more relaxed. I like this so I can meet others in the area with similar interests. She's great about having people switch lines so everyone has an opportunity to see and watch themselves for improving. She is also good about being open to people asking questions. Note, when she does teach longer segments, it can get a little more difficult as the pacing could be faster, but just ask her to repeat a part and she will be happy to do it. Her encouragement has actually helped me to take more classes here in LA and I'm really thankful to have had her as my first experience at Ruts. Aaliyah teaches both girl and guy group songs but she typically selects ones that are more intermediate. These are best for after you've taken a few classes and are a little experienced at picking up choreography for dance classes. She typically teaches slightly shorter segments because they can be more tricky at times. She's also super sweet and is happy to answer questions. I've only taken her class a few times but both times have been fun. She's great at teaching you how to stylize certain moves so when I'm staring at myself doing a boy dance and it looks off, she knows the tricks to tell you how to shift your weight so it looks more masculine and boxy versus soft and flowy like a lot of the feminine dances. Both of them are very popular on social media and their classes can get packed. I do wish that Ruts itself would be better about capping Kpop dance class attendees because sometimes I feel like it's almost too crowded to learn at times. These are the times when it gets really hard to see, but hey we're in LA, we should expect space to be tight anyway. I do also wish Ruts provided the instructors mics to go over the speaker (if possible). This is nothing on the instructors, but because the studio is next to a major street, the cars passing by can make it difficult to hear at times. The instructors are already trying to project as loud as they can, like it sounds like they are having to yell at times, so a lil extra boost would be great to help them out. Pro Tips: --parking is street only but free after 6pm --entrance is on the side off of 1st street, not off of western --it's a smaller studio size so move around if you need to see --it's next to a main traffic street which is loud so if you can't hear, have the courage to ask for things to be repeated or for instructor to speak up --they professionally film the class at the end in small groups. This is not required but it's good to see your progress to improve! Before taking the K-pop class with Soobin last Saturday, I asked if it was okay for beginners and was told that it was. I think we have different definitions of "beginner." ***If you're not familiar with dance choreography, I wouldn't recommend taking this as your first class.*** Even my friend with a dance background found it difficult to follow sometimes. First, Soobin was going too fast. Second, it was hard to see her and hard to hear her at times. I was surprised that she didn't have a mic since she doesn't have a voice that projects. Third, when you could hear her, she was not very good at explaining things. And towards the end of the routine, she stopped explaining stuff altogether. Fourth, it definitely didn't help that she didn't remember the entire routine and kept checking her phone to see what came next. If I'm paying $20 for this class, at least know the routine. If you do end up going, finding the entrance is a bit confusing. You have to enter through the gate on 1st Street. But on a positive note, the studio we used looked nice enough. UPDATED TO ADD: Soobin was definitely checking her phone to look at the choreo for the song. She would even say out loud that she forgot how the next part goes. And we'd stand there, watching as she scrolled through what I assume was the music video to see the parts she forgot. After the class, my friends also commented on her stopping to look up some of the moves on her phone. And I saw the IG story about the song before the class. I looked at the music video beforehand and was thankful that it wasn't one of the more complicated routines. I think under different conditions I would've had an easier time learning the choreography. read more

I love this studio!! It can be tough to find dance classes that have a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. Everyone is so welcoming here and the instructors are the best!! There are so many classes from beginner to advanced. I've never felt unsafe walking to my car, but they do offer a staff member to walk with if you might feel nervous to walk at night. I love that. I really like this studio, it's super beginner friendly which is a bit rare to find in LA where there are many advanced dancers and talented instructors. The instructors here are talented and nurturing. My one complaint is I wish they had better air circulation, I think the AC system is one wall unit for the whole studio...it's been fine in winter but I'm dreading taking classes here in the summer, especially if they're still forcing mask wearing which they still do now. The combo of wearing masks (which is lifted now in nearly all other places including gyms) and poor air flow/cooling makes it a bit uncomfortable. I do highly recommend and hopefully the studio takes some steps to improve comfort! read more

Behold: a fun, supportive, and not overcrowded dance studio in LA! The studio has such a cute set-up and is always spotless. The owners are nice and accommodating and prices are reasonable, especially considering how much individual attention each student gets. They also have different package options, so if you tryna be a regular at the classes, this is highly recommended. The instructors!! Seriously some of the most fun and down-to-earth dancers I've met. They all really want to help the students improve. The students that I've met and befriended are also cool, and overall, Urban LA just exudes positive, noncompetitive vibes. which I have yet to find at another dance studio in LA. Again - the owner was lying and twisting the facts as we expected, and put together another nice and long article as she always does. She loves taking money that she shouldn't be taking, while blaming people of things that's made up. If it's small amount involved, I'd have bit the bullet as many other customers of hers. But $100? Wow she has some good appetite for some additional money that she didn't provide service for. As decent human beings, no one will "threaten" you of things that you haven't done or accuse you of being someone you are not. All that I wrote are facts that only scammers themselves would see as a "threat". I was being open and transparent about my plan to post to social media so that your potential customers can see how you conduct business, and if you see it as a "threat" - oh well. Guess you are ashamed of how you do things yourself. And I'm not using any subjective or accusatory words towards you. It's facts after facts. And facts only. Not gonna waste my time on this - but new customers please be aware. (Also - 1. There's no way you find any parking around this studio. By the time you find one, your class is over or half way over. 2. There's a column right in the middle of the room which blocks your view of the instructors or of the mirror, and you have to be really careful when moving around it. 3. Ventilation system is really bad. Air is stuffy. My lungs felt bad after every session. 4. Lighting is horrible and can cause much dizziness. 5. There are many nice dance studios around the area with decent owners where the same instructors teach at - better environment, better experience) read more

Rūts introduced SO much joy into my life. I'm 28 and had never taken a dance class before, although I always loved watching the videos. I was super nervous to try out a class in person, but immediately those nerves went away on the first class. The atmosphere here is so energetic and supportive; people of all levels of dance come together to learn the same choreo or fundamentals and it feels genuinely social and FUN. I'm beyond happy that I pushed myself to take class, it changed my life. Now I've been coming 4-5 times a week for 3 months and I feel like I am a part of an actual strong community. The people you meet here are so kind and genuine and come from all walks of life. This dance studio is a gem; their space is super welcoming albeit a little small, but its perfect for casual dance classes! They cap their classes at 15 so they ensure that each student has plenty of space. The classes are all around really good; I've taken a couple, and although they are taught by different instructors, all of them have good energy and good instructional capacity and help identify your needs and really work towards your goals in a fun way :) especially given the cheap price the classes are a steal! I have a body that moves like a flailing stick. Like I have never danced non-awkwardly in my life. To become more confident and learn how to move, I took the Groove class at Urban LA. I had no idea what to expect as this was my first dance class ever, but Kristian the instructor was soo patient, kind, and encouraging all throughout. He really knows how to give you individual attention while leading the whole group simultaneously. Diny was also superr welcoming and helpful! Quick registration process, clean (and amazingly cute!) dance space, intimate class setting, and overall awesome vibe. You have to find street parking but you should be able to find one on 3rd or in the residential area around the block. I went in for a drop-in and ended up signing up for a 10-class package. Ill be honest I came to the studio so ao voukd take Whacking classes with Lorena and I was not disappointed. She just started her classes there on Mondays at 6:30pm. The studio is small but comforting. When you entere there is one one studio room and two of the 4 walls are lined with mirrors. So far the place has always been clean! They also regulate the temp of the room with a portable AC, but it works. The plaxe is small so I cannot see more than 10-15 people being comfortable taking classes in this space. Overall,I love that the studio is small, it is near my place and that her class is in the evening! Although I wish it was later so that I could make it to her class on time after work. This studio is a GEM for beginners or ex-dancers looking to get back into dancing after years of not doing so. I've come here every week for the past three months and always plan my life around my favorite jazz funk class with Noe! He will not only teach you how to dance, but also how to gain confidence in yourself. He will challenge you, pushing you out of your comfort zone by making you WANT to learn. In the few months I've been here, I've seen the community growing and that in itself is very exciting. If you have no dance background whatsoever, Minzi's girl's hip hop class, also on Thursdays, is a great place to start. Classes are $15, cash or Venmo only. A 10-class pass is $130 and lasts three months - I'm on my second one! Parking is a pain, but there's usually spots along Western and it's absolutely worth it for this class and probably all the others as well! read more

If you've found other dance studios a little too crowded or perhaps too intimidating, look no further. Urban LA is a quaint, intimate learning space that's perfect for dancers of any level. Because the classes are smaller than those of other studios, the instructors are able to give their attention to each individual student, making sure they are picking up on the exercises and improving. I took the Grooves class from Kristian, and the skill level ranged from beginner to advanced, but Kristian made sure that every student left the class with something to improve on! It definitely beats being in a class of 40 people, not getting any feedback, and figuring out what to work on for yourself. Diny was very patient with her dance class (: I haven't danced in a while, but I felt comfortable learning from Diny, making sure to answer any questions I had and went at a pace I was comfortable with. The studio is clean and has great lighting/space for learning. I think the studio space is perfect for the 15 person cap per class they limit to. I have taken I believe Dante's and Emanuel's beginning classes and they were both absolutely amazing instructors!! They were both really good at breaking down complex movements and were also both very encouraging and created a comfortable space for students to explore and learn. In past dance classes, I feel like it's always been really intimidating but this place is actually beginner friendly and I can't wait to go back!
