i'm somewhat familiar with Aerial Apparatus but the beginner Silk kicked by butt. My arms definitely did a lot of work. I went with some of my friends and everyone enjoyed the class. It start with a nice warm up and the instructor Aimee taught us some beginner friendly moves. I honestly forgot the names of the moves but they were pretty shapes. We learned two types of climbing and of them is definitely easier than the other for me. It is fun and unique activity to try with friends. Aerial Arts offer different apparatus from Lyra, Trapeze, and many more. Would love to try in the future. read more

This studio is in a very busy part of Manhattan, so it's nice to be able to do lots of things in addition to a class. That being said, it's surprising that it is in this location, but what a nice surprise! Although I only took one class here, I loved it. I've taken aerial rope classes in two other places, so I kind of have some idea of what is going on. The instructor here was very patient and incredibly talented in both the skills and in coaching through different versions of directions and skills for different students. Loved it! The class was only 1 hour, but it was 1 hour nonstop of serious business. We had stretching and conditioning and a lot of time to work on a handful of different skills. Since I was not as advanced as the majority of the other folks, Elizabeth, the instructor, was very kind and patient and still made the class meaningful, challenging and fun for me. She was very supportive of my efforts and of everyone's journeys. I could tell she was familiar with everyone's skill sets and challenged them to match their abilities. There were 6 of us in class and 3 ropes, but, that was perfect. I cannot imagine being on/ in the rope for 60 minutes. The timing of everything was well aligned to having a fun-filled, action-packed, skill-improving time dusted with a touch of artistic expression and overflowing with athletic stamina building. How it started: I found a groupon for aerial classes when I was staying in NYC 10 years ago. "It looks so cool, what could possibly go wrong?" thought 20-something couch-potato me. Well, my first class was rope and it was humiliating. I thought I was done and then a small voice said, "But you can't possibly get any worse..." So I went back. I never stopped going back. How it's going: I left NYC shortly thereafter but there's a rig in my backyard now and I'm making up my own moves as I go. But Aerial Arts NYC was where it all began. I took a silk class with Lisa during this short visit, and she deserves every bit of praise she got from the woman who recommended her. She is as patient as she is fabulous and she has a gift for teaching - I don't say that often. I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm an idiot because I tripped over the crash mat on my way out - I'm quite clumsy on land. (no, I did not fall while in the air - there's nothing to trip over up there!) My only issue was the the one-hour class is too short when you're sharing a silk, but that's for selfish reasons - I wanted to learn from Lisa forever! read more

From the moment you walk in the door, you're greeted with kindness. Once you make your way up the stairs to join the other students for warm-up, you're welcomed like family. All the instructors are kind, informative, and really push the drills and conditioning while including a fun combo or two. I was in NYC for a month, and I made it a priority to spend most of my days in the studio. Because of that, I've grown as an aerialist in a short period of time. I took three Advanced Beginner Silks classes here with their 3 for $99 new student package. I had completed the Intro to Silks level at Body and Pole but their advanced silks classes were not at a convenient time for me so I decided to give Aerial Arts NYC a try! There are a lot of things I like about Aerial Arts NYC! - the classes are 55 minutes (and therefore less expensive than other silks classes in NYC that are over an hour). I actually liked the shorter classes, and we still managed to cover so much in each class! - there are only 6 people to a class, and 3 apparatuses. I got much more individualized attention here than I have elsewhere because there are fewer people on the apparatus at a time so the instructor has less people to focus on at once. - you are allowed to film yourself at any time during the class. Other studios only let you film during the last few minutes of class. - rosin (the sticky stuff you put on your hands) is available to everyone for free. - yoga mats are free to borrow. - the ceilings are very high here. I am not advanced enough for this to really matter for me, but other students were saying that this is pretty nice! However, there was one big drawback, which is that warmups and stretches are not done at the beginning of class. I know that contributes to the shorter class time, which I said I liked, but I would have been fine with spending 15 minutes out of the 55 on stretches. Students are expected to come early to class and stretch/warm up on their own. I am glad I started taking classes here after I already had experience with aerials because I have a general idea of the stretches I need to do before class. If I were a true beginner, I could have seen myself getting hurt because I might not have warmed up properly. Overall, I think I will continue taking classes here alongside other studios that put more emphasis on stretching, since I am trying to work on my flexibility. They also have stretch and flexibility classes here that I will definitely try! read more

I was thoroughly disappointed in the instructor from tonight, I believe her name was Kayla. I bought the 3 pack for beginner silks. I'm a personal trainer with my own business and I offer a monthly program for clients that's basically a movement field trip. Each month we take a beginner class at a new place and talk about it. This month we tried silks. We went twice - once with several clients and again tonight with another client. Monday 7:10pm instructor was great. She was kind, accommodating, and diligent. Tonight's was the complete opposite. She was incredibly rude, cold, and not attentive to potential safety issues. As a one-on-one and group fitness instructor myself, I know that safety comes first, and performance comes second. Multiple times safety and technique concerns were ignored. To her credit, I know she wasn't feeling well. But that said, your job as an instructor is to be responsible for the people in the class - especially when those students are beginners. She also presented the tone that this studio is a place to work towards working professionally in aerial arts while the Monday instructor balanced technique importance and presented the art as a recreational activity. I think the studio could benefit from specifying their brand and informing their instructors what tone to set for the space. I hope to come back and use my final class credit but I most definitely will not book a class taught by Kayla. read more

Completely unprofessional. I bought a package of classes then booked one for the next day no knowing there was a 5K then a marathon the next day. The streets were blocked off and the buses rerouted and they make it sound like I don't know how to take public transport when literally I can't even walk to cross the street. The subway and bus doesn't come within a 10 mile radius but it's somehow in my control, for not forcing the driver to mow down hundreds of racers ram, police cars, and flares because...They Aerial Arts NYC doesn't care about anyone. No weekend transit doesn't affect everyone like the people who live near the studio and don't have a race in their neighborhood. Some serious mental gymnastics on their part. 100% they didn't know about the race at all or what's happening on every given day. Imagine pretending the issue is reduced service due to maintenance on the weekend. I tried calling them to cancel because they sent a link and phone number for someone named Lisa Natoli in case I needed cancellation ( just a scam/ deception ). The link was broken and the number is a Google voice that you'll see in the email they still claim ownership over but "do not use" according to Joe. I tried to reach them for hours and even emailed them. I left a message. When the phone picked up the second time it was a woman scratching "WRONG NUMBER! WRONG NUMBER! WRONG NUMBER! Then Lisa screamed profanities at me and hung up. This is no way to treat someone that paid $190. Yes I can't cancel within 48 hours because I bought the classes 9 hours ago. The "reason I'm having difficulty canceling isn't because of the 48 hour cancellation policy, it's because you make it completely impossible to contact your business and only respond after it's too late. I bet the teacher wasn't even notified of my Email. And why is it a different person canceling and not Lisa? Did they switch the instructor ? Look how they cancel it 15 minutes after class started and not even 10 minutes ( they won't admit you if you are late) their goal is obviously to get you to pay and not attend ( these imaginary classes ( at a business that doesn't exist ( across from manniquin??? What kind of address description is that ?? IQ of -50?) I was not notified of this within 48 hours. I tired too contact them as soon as I saw the blockade and continued long after they'd opened. He acts like all the buildings and street posts had signs 2 weeks out of this random 5k to prepare us for inconvenience. Absolutely ludicrous! And take a look at the the obnoxious and patronizing emails they sent me. Then they cancel the classes for "being late" and charge me. Never attended! Also the text message I received was a automation that Was one way. And look how stupid it's response's are. I moved to NY a few months ago and had to find a new place to continue training Lyra. I've taken a few Advanced Beginner/Intermediate classes with Hannah here and it's been good. She's a very friendly and helpful teacher and her classes are fun. There are a couple of things about the studio itself that I don't like that much though, that's why I'm giving it four stars. The good: - The classes I've taken have been good and I really like my instructor - The classes are small (six people) - Ceilings are high. - You can rent points to practice by yourself at a reasonable price The bad: - The classes are only 60 minutes long, which feels short considering the cost. I'm used to places where classes are 75 or 90 minutes long so you have more time for stretching and conditioning. - There isn't a lot of room to stretch by yourself if you arrive early either. - They have a 48-hour cancellation policy. I'm sure there's a reason for this, but most places have a 24-hour policy. You can't do same-day point rentals either. read more

I love Aerial Arts NYC!! I have been taking classes a bit short of a year now and AA is definitely the best place for learning aerial in the city! I love the high ceilings, which allow you to work on drops and moves that wouldn't be possible in shorter silks (e.g. body & pole), and the instructors here are the best. I've taken Laura Haley and Lani Corson's classes and they are super sweet and awesome! I also really like how class levels are split into Beginner/Adv Beg/Intermediate - the gap between levels isn't so big that you feel stuck in the beginner levels for too long. The scheduling system is also very user friendly, and the staff here are super friendly, responsive and helpful with booking questions or any questions in general. I've also done point rentals to practice in between classes - the rate is really good especially if you have two people and it is really nice to get some practice time in. The open workouts are also very good value. The facilities in general are very clean and the rigging is neat and regularly inspected (very important!). In general, I feel like AA teaches aerials as a discipline whereas other studios teach it more like another form of workout, like yoga, so it feels more "serious" here in a good way and I really enjoy it. read more

3.5 star review for Aerial Arts NYC. If I were reviewing this a year ago, I'd probably give this a few more stars. That is BECAUSE I was pole-ing back then and I was much stronger and in good aerial condition. Unfortunately, I tore my shoulder from pole so I took a year off and I'm back to one. I would say, per Susie E and others here, that AA is not friendly for beginners. They do not do a good job of directing new people where to go or which class is taking place on the mat. This is pretty true of the aerial culture in general though. There's a certain elitism that accompanies all aerials because of their strength and ability. Still, there is something more...welcoming about pole. Pole is about the camaraderie and self journey and I didn't really get that from any of the instructors here. They were for the most part patient... and thorough in explanation, just not warm? Of the two instructors I had - Josh and Kristin O, I preferred Josh. Josh was warmer and more patient; Kristin was good too but it's a matter of your personal vibe with them. They both taught pretty challenging beginner moves. You start class by stretching, then you learn 1-3 moves and then you do some aerial conditioning. One major pro is that they keep it very small-- only 5-6 people in a class. I took 3 classes (b/c I bought the LivingSocial deal for 3 classes for $50). Cons on this deal was that they were going to expire by 2/20 so they had to be used before then and unfortunately, all the classes (nearly all) are booked solid so I don't know how anyone's supposed to make classes. Book way in advance if you want to start going. Still, I got a good deal considering one class is $35 and their packages don't lower the price too drastically. They have the most classes out of all the aerial studios in NYC (most apparatus, most instructors, most times, etc) I started out with Lyra/Hammock which I thought was the easiest and painless of my classes. I'd try these again. We learned how to get on the appartus, sit, stand (for hammock) and do little wraps and easy poses. This was taught by Josh. The next class I took was silks/rope, taught by Kristin. This was harder; we started with the climb, did an ankle hang and other poses that could have been built upon with other skill level. Kristin did a good job trying to explain the hand wraps and what not but boy, I don't know how people remember that! You get used to it, I guess. The one bad thing was that I didn't spend that much time on the rope.. presumably because it's the hardest but I wish we'd divided our time between the two. We learned most of the stuff on the silks, and then Kristin just asked me to replicate on the rope.. which I couldn't do. I needed tons of support (her holding the apparti still, i.e...both her and Josh were generally good about that and spotting). The last class I took was static trapeze. This is a bit easier to book because I think it's the least favored appartus. I can see why because it hurt like a motherfucker. Twisting with that bar all up in you was simply not fun and I just wouldn't do it again. In this class, taught by Josh, I didn't think he was as forgiving or patient with newbies- esp. newbies like me that have a low pain tolerance. I had the most difficulty with trap- I couldn't even really mound the thing on my own. I have really short arms compared with my body so it was hard for me to invert into the swing... which was a problem with me and pole too. I'd say you'd need to have some kind of fitness level before doing these classes. I'm very fit and strong, and an ex pole dancer but aerial is another beast all together. If you're flexible and a pro at inversions (handstands, headstands- which I'm not because it's really a balancing act that I've never been able to achieve), you'll be good. All in all, I'd consider going back for lyra and hammock if I don't like a more affordable studio. After all, they have a plethora of classes and the location is convenient. read more

I purchased a Living Social for Aerial Arts and took one lyra class and had an ok experience in the one class I went to. It was a little bit disappointing that the teacher only brought one hoop even though she said she had two because it meant a lot more waiting around. She was a decent teacher, but seemed to get a little bit frazzled by students who were inexperienced. I signed up for another class the next week, but had to cancel because I was sick. They were completely inflexible about allowing me to reschedule less than 48 hours prior to the class time, which I find incredibly unfair, because I wasn't sick two days before the class so I couldn't have known I had to cancel. I was also doing them a favor by keeping my germs away from their shared equipment. On top of that, they were terrible at communicating. No one ever picked up the phone the several times that I called during business hours, one email went unanswered for days and my last email has gone completely unanswered. Have you been harboring a secret fantasy about quitting your job and becoming a circus performer? This is your place then. I took my first class at AANYC recently and the experience was amazing. I signed up for a beginner hammock class. The studio is located downstairs in a gym space in Midtown East. The check in process was fairly standard, simple waiver. Then you go downstairs to the gym entrance. There is no locker area downstairs but it seemed fine to leave your belongings stacked up against the wall. Longer tights, past your knee, are essential for all the rotating and shifting you will do in the hammock or with silks. My hammock class was three people, all beginners, to two hammocks. Our teacher Kate would show us a move and then we would all take turns practicing it on both sides. Having never done hammock or silks before it was surprisingly easy to just start doing it, you just have to go for it. There was plenty of time to repeat moves if you were having trouble getting them as well. Kate did a great job of coaching us through the movements and making adjustments as we went along. It was awesome that multiple classes/open practice was happening in the gym at the same time. I got to watch a beginner silks class (which I want to try next). Additionally I got to watch teachers (I think) honing their craft, very awe inducing. Waking up the next day every muscle in my arms and back! I've been working towards doing their student showcase on the silks. My goal is to start performing on the side and this place is the place to make it happen. Best aerial studio in the city! It has high ceiling, which is better than Body & Pole when it comes to silk (testing your stamina). I've taken classes with most of the silk instructors here and they're all great (Madeline Hoak, Elizabeth Munn, Lani Corson, Laura Haley, etc). There're four levels of silk classes to accommodate everyone. The studio offers static trapeze, straps, and rope, which aren't available anywhere else. They have an intensive course that helps you build a routine and perform at the student showcase. Point rental for self practice is pretty cheap. I've been taking classes here for almost two years and have felt very good about my progress. read more

I bought a Living Social deal to this place with my roommate. We've gone to two classes so far - the aerial conditioning & the hammock/lyra class. Both times, we had Kristen Olness as our instructor. Both classes had about 4-6 students, and there were multiple apparatus set up. For aerial conditioning, she set up 2 static trapezes, 1 silk rope, 1 ball & a mat for various floor exercises. I didn't like this class as much as the other one, as I prefer to learn more aerial skills vs conditioning - but my roommate & I wanted to try out one of everything. The second class we took, hammock/lyra, was pretty awesome. Kristen set up 2 hammocks & 1 lyra, and since no one was using the silk ropes, she also showed us some skills on those, so that we weren't repeating the same things over & over. The one downside to the class is that even though it's classified as "beginner", 2 of the girls in the class were clearly not beginners, so I think it was harder for Kristen to split her attention between complete novices who needed a lot of guidance & those who were doing more complicated moves who needed spotting. Overall, I think this place is pretty awesome. The instructors are very knowledgeable & I definitely learned a lot of new things just int he 2 classes I've attended so far. Also, it's a fantastic workout - my muscles were sore for days afterwards, and I consider myself to be fairly in shape. read more

I love these guys. I've been taking lessons from some of these teachers for over 5 years, back before they had their own school. They know when to push me, when to let me be frustrated with myself, and how to motivate me to be better in the air. I have met so many wonderful people through the community at Aerial Arts, and been exposed to amazing talent & creativity. If you truly want your ass to be kicked, take an Aerial Conditioning class! One thing I will note: some other reviews mention certain classes are not beginner friendly. open level and intermediate classes are not beginner friendly, because they are not beginner classes! Beginner classes are beginner classes, and they are offered for a reason! I think this is stated in the class descriptions, so don't get mad if everyone is annoyed when you don't know how to climb but signed up for an intermediate class anyways...in that case, you ARE wasting other people's time. I paid for the class too, and I paid so that I could learn new skills from my teacher, not so I could watch him/her teach a beginner lesson. read more

Awkward Much?! So i purchased a Living Social Deal 3 class for $50 bucks. I was super excited to try something new and fun! They have a relatively easy online booking system, booked a beginners trapeze class and was pumped! Walked in and the kids at the front desk were chatting and not to helpful I had to ask where the locker room was and how to get to the gym area. , I went into the locker room and non of the lockers worked, seriously they were all broken. So i change and carry my coat, uggs and purse into the gym and kind of look around aimlessly. There are a bunch of classes going on at the same time in the same place so i was not sure where i was suppose to go. I finally go up to someone that looks sort of like they work there and was directed to the area where the trapeze class was taking place. It was me and two other girls in the class who clearly were pros. The instructor had me do some stretching first and seemed bothered that I was a beginner. They had a student recital that night? so basically i sat there, like a total A-hole as these two girls did these over the top routines (set to music with props I might add) and between the girls breaks the instructor would have me get on the trapeze and flail around for 4-5 minutes. Totally irritated at my lack of skill and clearly just wanted to get back to working with the girls that would be preforming that night. Keep in mind I DO NOT EMBARRASS EASILY but this experience was easily in the top 2-3 most AWKWARD and uncomfortable experiences I have ever had in my 29 years of life , I have never felt so un welcomed as if she was doing me a HUGE favor, I was a little in shock and weirded out by her vibe. Summary: This place is NOT beginner friendly at all. Why they put a deal on Living Social is beyond me. Unless you are a gymnastic pro or an ex circus performer I would steer clear. The only redeeming thing I can say is that maybe the Lycra classes are funner. There was one going on right next to me and the instructor for that class seemed slightly more patient. Needless to say it was a waste of $50 bucks and I will most certainly NOT be redeeming the two classes I have left. But maybe that's their plan all along, get a bunch of Living Social People for the $ that you know will never come back. read more

I have been going to Aerial Arts officially for one year now. I had started aerial silks at another place for a couple months, which was great, but AANYC has high ceilings, a huge space, and incredibly supportive instructors. I am seriously addicted to silks (and so will you be if you start) and I have seen so much improvement in the past year. Apart from my snowboarding trips in the winter, my only form of exercise is Aerial, and it keeps me extremely fit and I don't even feel like I am "exercising" because it is SO MUCH FUN. I already did one student showcase in August of last year, which was so rewarding. Apart from going to class almost every single day, I am currently preparing for my next showcase in four weeks. I take classes with Kristin Young, Joshua Dean and Susie Williams and enjoy every single second of them. As you advance in aerial, the classes become tailored to the students' levels and it is amazing how many new things you keep learning, while perfecting everything else (POINT YOUR TOES). The pace of teaching is ideal and the teachers really focus on keeping you safe in the air all the while not making you feel nervous. I have met some amazing people at AANYC and have made good friends from students to teachers. Their stretching and flexibility classes are also amazing! If you are interested in trying something new and getting out of your comfort zone, I would definitely recomment AANYC, you will not regret it. read more

All of the teachers are really knowledgeable (most have performed professionally in top circus' like Cirque du Soleil). I had no previous experience and bought the Living Social deal to check it out. I thought I would be able to learn some things about how it's done and maybe touch the silks a little bit. However, when I got there I felt welcomed and didn't feel like I was "too inexperienced" to do anything. I was on the silk the whole class learning by doing! My teacher was really great with instructing to my level of experience. There were much more advanced students in my class but I never felt out of place or that I should have been at a higher level to take the class. The silks and rope class was so much fun! I really enjoyed the class I took here. I took the acrobatic balancing class (which you can only take if you sign up with a partner) with my boyfriend. We had our own awkward moments here unrelated to the class, but overall I really enjoyed it. The other 2 couples taking the class had groupon deals or something. We paid the regular price. Both of us are very active people, but my boyfriend has injuries, and I'm a little more in shape than he. Our teacher was very patient but eager to push us (in a good way). I also should mention our teacher was a substitute, so I don't know how it is with the regular teacher, but our substitute was AWESOME. Great attitude, eager to show us things and help us. He pushed us to do some cool stuff, but never made us feel pressured or uncomfortable. I have experience in aerial arts and want to try the silks class here, the class that was going on during ours looked like the teacher was experienced and knew what he was doing. I've taken various circus arts classes at a different school that was way overpriced and far more expensive than this one so I had to stop. I've also taken individual lessons where the teachers just weren't all that great. Even though we were all at varying levels in the class, we all managed to do the stunts and we all seemed to enjoy ourselves. Definitely coming back to this place! read more

I've ben taking classes at Aerial Arts NYC for about 4 month now and I love it! I started as a total beginner (no gymnastic or dance training, average level of fitness) and began taking regular silks classes, conditioning and stretch classes and occasionally a handstand or straps class. All the instructors I've had have been super warm and helpful. I've felt safe in all my classes since the instructors are really knowledgeable and very talented. I would highly recommend this place for anyone interested in becoming an aerialist! read more

One of my favorite places to train. All of the instructors are amazing, and I always ALWAYS learn something new. I've done the 8-week intensive workshops a few times, which are great because you work at your own level and by the end of the workshop, you have a full routine, and get to perform it with everyone else in an end-of-intensive showcase. I've taken lyra, trapeze, silks, and stretch classes here, and can't wait to try all of the others! read more

Being involved in the aerial arts for over five years, I have had some awesome instructors! I have also encountered some who threw caution to the wind when safety was concerned, lacked knowledge and even common sense. That certainly is NOT the case here! Aerial Arts NYC is in a great location and has very skilled and knowledgeable instructors who pay great attention to safety. I used a LivingSocial deal for Aerial Arts NYC that allowed me to take 3 one-hour classes in beginner hammock/lyra for $50. After the first class, I was really disappointed. It seems that being a beginner kinda singles you out as the black sheep of the class and will definitely not earn you points with the instructor. I guess the one I had just doesn't tolerate students who can't hang upside down for long periods of time or twirl around in the air on the first try. If that's the case, don't have b-e-g-i-n-n-e-r classes! I felt really awkward and almost ashamed for not being an instant acrobat. I paid money for an experience where I was made to feel like I was wasting my instructor's precious time just because I was new. Seriously? I didn't even show up for the last two classes because why would I want to go through that again? And, that's not even to mention the questionable locker situation. I was fine with bringing my own lock, but a majority of the lockers didn't even open, another one was open, but there was a lock on it, and the last free one seemed to have employee items in it. If there are no real guarantees that there is a safe space for students to leave their belongings during the class--on top of possibly getting a teacher that doesn't even want to teach beginners! what?!--no, sir, that is crossing the line. You cannot treat students like they are wasting YOUR time; they just paid you for your time. Plus, times are tough, so when I give my money to your business, don't take it for granted. Fifty bucks in NYC is almost half a monthly MetroCard! That is a big deal. Aerial Arts NYC: learn a little something about **good** customer service. Deliver and don't disappoint. read more

My 14 year old daughter was signed up for a 4pm Lira class.... our subway from Brooklyn was delayed due to a sick passenger and I tried calling them at 3:45pm to let them know she'd be a few minutes late but you get a voicemail. Where you can not get an operator. We arrived 10 minutes late very apologetically... and were told she could not go in as it was 4:11pm and not 4:10pm. The receptionist let her go down saying she would probably get yelled at for doing so.... I could see my daughter waiting through the glass window with the rest of the class- no disruption at all to what was happening. She was then approached by a male manager and kicked out... she came upstairs in tears as he yelled at her for being late... she is 14 years old. Before we were even up to the street I was sent an email saying they were charging me for not showing up. I am appalled at their rudeness and attitude especially as we were so excited for her to try this place. read more

Took a partner Acro class with Jason Mejias, this past Monday. This is the most fun I've had in a really long time! I am a pole dance/yoga/flexibility training instructor and I do take my hat off for the way Jason led the class, perceiving the different levels of students' abilities and appropriately challenging students so everyone felt accomplished. Also, great cuing, super knowledgeable of each pose and its progressions. We felt super safe trying more difficult poses because Jason was a very present instructor, there the whole time, ready to correct us into balance, encourage us to try again or even catch us a few times! My roommate, whom was my partner in this class, and I are both fit, Jason challenged us to our max, in a safe progressive manner. We had a blast! This class is also a great bonding experience! I would totally take a date to partner yoga, friends or even coworkers. I VOTE FOR JASON ;-) and both my roommate and I will be taking his class again! read more

I have tried at least 4 other schools which teach aerials and I always come back to Aerial Arts. The space is great, particularly the ceilings which are high enough to really call what you're doing "aerial" and there is plenty of floor space, (both of which I found to be a problem at the other schools). They offer a wide range of classes which aren't available in a lot of other schools: silks, rope, lyra, hammock, static trapeze, juggling, handstands/contortion and partner acrobatics. Children's circus classes are also available. They also offer an 8-week Intensive workshop every few months for those who want to learn a routine to perform. The audience is always packed and the performances are always impressive. The teachers are great. They're friendly and know their stuff. I've worked with Josh and Kristin O for about a year and love em both. Beginners: Many of the beginners classes may have more advanced students because there are only a couple of levels available. But I think what's great about that, is you get to see what you can achieve if you keep working at it. No one that I've met there is elitist. If you have questions, just ask anyone and they'll help you. This isn't aerial yoga, so if you're expecting low impact and calm relaxation this isn't the place for you. But if you want to learn some really amazing tricks in the air, build your upper body strength or perform for your friends and family then try Aerial Arts. read more

I bought a Living Social deal for this place, checked out the website and was excited to go, the only problem was signing up for a class. Most classes I was interested in had a waiting list, which was no problem, I figured if the class opened they would send an email or something, that didn't happen. Instead a month later I tried again and finally got into a class but due to work I was unable to attend. I called and left a message more then 36hours in advance and never heard back, I then sent an email. A few days after the class I was called by Kris and she told me due to their inflexible policy she wouldn't allow me to reschedule, that was fine but I told her I was having problems scheduling the two other classes I was supposed to have. After many back and forth emails Kris finally told me I could have a credit that would only allow me to go to 1 class and I would have to pay additional for a second. I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy. The customer service is terrible, and after reading about the classes they don't sound great either! read more

I've been taking classes at Aerial Arts NYC since they opened. I was looking for a new fun way to to stay in shape, become more flexible and challenge myself. I have run the gambit of various exercise classes including yoga and cross training all of which become "old" and I end up forcing myself to continue because "it's good for me". At Aerial Arts NYC, I look forward to my classes EVERY TIME. The instructors are welcoming and know just how far to challenge. Each one gives full attention to each student regardless of fitness level or previous experience. I love the supportive atmosphere where students and faculty alike encourage each other. Every one walks out of class feeling like they have made some progress, whether it be a trick, a pose, or some strength move. I highly recommend Aerial Arts NYC to anyone who is looking for an experience that physically challenging, creative and definitely "outside the box". read more
