My daughter loves going here even though it's only just been two classes (Bo Park). It never disappoints! Appreciate it well how they can be very much flexible when certain uncontrollable circumstances arise. Will keep going back! read more

Steps on Broadway is an incredible gift. I take Zoom classes in Los Angeles, and my dancing has exploded from exposure to the Broadway-level instructors. I would never take their classes without the studio's commitment to virtual classes. I couldn't be more grateful! Lisa-Beth Harris read more

STEPS on Broadway is the serious and fun choice for dance drill and instruction! Great atmosphere. Solid infrastructure & convenient location. Excellent teachers. Special shoutout to instructor Spencer Weisbond for energetic, positive, precise guide to the world of Swing! read more

I had a fantastic first class and was surprised at how well the zoom option worked! I could see everything and there was no delay or lag with the sound. Felipe was also so engaging and knowledgeable. 10 out of of 10 read more

Spencer is an exceptionally gifted dance instructor. He gives the same level of excellent instruction and encouragement to every person in his beginner Swing class, regardless of their level of skill. He is extremely knowledgable about dance, very thorough in his explanations, and has a natural gift for making every student feel welcome and at ease. read more

I love taking classes at Steps. Yuka Kameda is a wonderful tap dance teacher. The staff are friendly & helpful & the variety of classes offered is great! I travel from Brooklyn, so the option for streaming classes is also very appreciated! I read more

Extremely satisfied with both - the content of the class and our instructor, Nicole Ohr!

Great space. Fantastic dance options from day to night. World-class teachers! A creative environment to be immersed in. All-ages inclusivity is an excellent plus! A must for an aspiring (and even a beginner) dancer coming to New York! **It would be greatly appreciated if the water fountain could be fixed, as the water flow is extremely slow, making it difficult to fill a water bottle. ** read more

Took class from Elena Kunikova Friday at 11:45. What a beautiful spirit; she has high expectations of her students without being intimidating or discouraging, designs a gorgeous class with combinations that are complex enough to allow the advanced dancer a good workout but clear and controlled enough for an advanced beginner student to enjoy a good challenge within their reach. Elena was attentive and personal with each student, even those she had never met before, and gave corrections and comments for everyone's benefit. And to watch her, and her Russian styling, is absolutely breathtaking. I'm totally out of shape and technically challenged, but her choreography moves along with such ease and authenticity that even I could feel like I was dancing! The pianist was wonderful too. I've taken from many teachers at Steps over 40 years but I think this class was my favorite. read more

Amazing classes and teachers. LOVE They have both virtual classes and live. Great customer service and all around wonderful place to dance! read more

Taking a beginner class after many years absent from dance, this was the perfect step to get back into it. Nicole Ohr teaches their intro tap course and is a fantastic and encouraging instructor. I would highly recommend Steps and their class series programs to anyone who is even considering it! read more

Staff very friendly and helpful. And Kathy Sullivan's advanced beginner ballet class was awesome.

While the physical studios and building are very dated, the instructor is just fantastic. Amazing corrections, attentive to all students, explains concepts in a way that is easy to visualize and implement. Difficulty level is appropriate as well. Finally, she makes class a lot of fun. I'm a big fan. read more

The virtual classes are so great and the teachers are always wonderful! Such a welcoming community. Wish I could take class more often

We were there with our group of students from a high school dance team in Las Vegas and we all loved the environment and how comfortable everyone made us teachers and our students feel. It was very comfortable and everyone was very nice through out the whole studio. I took a Broadway tap class with Andrew Black my students took a Jazz class. I had not taken a tap class like that in 23 years he made me feel very comfortable along with all the students in the class. Thank you for a wonderful 1st dancw class experience in New York! From, Las Vegas Nevada I will definitely start taking some virtual classes and hope to visit again sometime soon. read more

Always good classes and teachers and so many good dancers for inspiration! I've been coming here for years when I am in town and always know my trip was worth it. And they make it very easy to take class virtually, which I haven't done, tho in class the teachers are also attentive to those online. The building is old and is really authentic dance class style. Actually really love it. read more

Love the virtual ballet classes with Kathryn Sullivan! She's so good at explaining everything, even to those of us participating over Zoom. Also love her attention to detail. Highly recommend! read more

Steps On Broadway - Older woman taking a ballet class from home. - Dance Studios Near Me - New York, New York

This happened a while ago but my husband took a dance class here and I'm still upset about how a situation with him getting injured was handled. His arm got dislocated (which for anyone that hasn't experienced it, it is extremely painful) and after a minute, he was able to get it back in on his own. Without missing a beat, the front desk lady ran to him with a liability form, but he was in too much pain so she SIGNED IT FOR HIM. Didn't even ask if he was OK. They got him an ice pack later, but shoving paperwork in someone's face is a horrible way to respond to them getting injured. Also, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to sign those things before an injury, not after. It feels like this studio cares more about not getting sued than it cares about their students wellbeing. Sidenote, he had the same thing happen to him at a different dance studio and they handled it completely differently. They took care of him and followed up over text to make sure he was all right. Never coming here again. read more

5 stars! First off, it's Nancy Bielski's class which I've been taking for almost 20 years and you have offered a very valuable resource for a reasonable price during this challenging time. As a professional it has been really helpful to take these classes online from Florida. You have continued to work on making the music clearer and the system is great. Thank you so much! read more

Absolutely incredible experience! My daughter had possibly the best time of her life dancing at Steps - we travelled in from Massachusetts and we cannot to come back again for more, more more! The faculty was phenomenal, and the choreography was outstanding!! Thank you, Steps! read more

I love steps and have been coming here for over 15 years. I pusposly live in the neighborhood so I can be close to the studio, my 2nd home there's a huge array of classes all day every day. All levels and ages. The only issue before COVID was checking into class. Sometimes there would be long lines and slow computers. But since check-in & payment is now online and required before class, it literally takes no time at all. Brilliant! If you're intimidated about trying out the studio or the classes don't be. Just give it a shot, you won't regret it. This is not a competitive atmosphere. It's a place to take risks, and hone your skills in a supportive environment. Highly recommend, and still hope to be dancing here when I am in my 80's read more

The staff are top notch...friendly & helpful. The dance rooms are beautiful and full of history.

I am a professional dancer and have been taking class at Steps for a little over four years now. This is my favorite dance studio in the city! Whether you are a beginner or a professional, or any level in between, there is a class for you. They have a great variety of classes but my favorites to take are their ballet classes. However, I also take a lot of theater and tap classes at this studio. The teachers are top notch! I go to this studio about 4-5 days a week and have always had a good experience. If you are looking for a new dance studio to try, Steps is the one to go to! It is also very easy to get to and is right off of the 1/2/3 subway line. read more

Wonderful facility, inspirational class. Excellent value, world class educational event! Highly recommend!

The instructors are wonderful but the facility is terrible The ballet barres are falling apart, the studios and dressing rooms are out dated and dirty and the facilities are in desperate need of repair. The bathrooms aren't clean, the showers don't work, theres no hot water and no place to leave your belongings in a secure place so you need to haul all your things up and down the stairs and leave them on the floor of the dirty studios. There's no excuse for this in 2022! The classes are expensive so where's the money going? Dancers are taken advantage of as they historically have been! We deserve better! read more

Steps has always been a great NYC dance studio - full of amazing teachers and students, and a great vibe. But they really did a particularly amazing job during the pandemic of equipping the studio with the right technology to make the Zoom experience great. Mae in the office was super sweet and she helped secure a virtual spot for me( I was a few minutes past the closing window) for the Modern class -because I am old (LOL) and sometimes space out the three hour time difference ... But glad to be the age I am and got to grow up with the Beatles and Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. :-) Ha! I have been doing the Virtual Classes and they have saved my head. Teachers are top notch - in all categories and when there is an issue with microphones or other audio issues (it is tech after all ) , I just send a chat and it is resolved quickly! I am teacher specific and I prefer the ones I stick with but it is all personal taste and skill level. I love supporting places that care!! read more

I've had SUCH a great experience with online classes through Steps. I appreciate that the teachers check in on me to see how I am doing, offer corrections, and keep the energy of the class palpable even via Zoom. Karen Gayle (Horton) is phenomenal and I've really liked Sam Lobel's contemporary class as well. I greatly appreciate that the teachers have mics so I can hear them and that video/filming is from the front AND back of the studio. Thank you so much, Steps!! So happy to be dancing with you all! I hope your online program continues well past the pandemic. read more

My daughter was challenged and welcomed. If we are ever in NYC again, we will definitely consider scheduling a drop-in class for her at Steps! read more

I am from out of state but I have long heard about Steps. When the pandemic hit and a lot of classes were going online, I thought it was a prime opportunity to take classes from the famed studio. The process of registering for a class and receiving the link was very smooth. The accompanied music was wonderful. The teacher was top-notched and professional. It was so helpful to have a dancer demonstrating the steps along the way. The streaming quality was really good. I'm not a dancer and am taking classes for enrichment, but to be able to do so, even virtually, amongst the professionals, is a great experience. I tried to sign up classes at my local dance studio, but either the schedule did not work, or the stream quality was really bad. So I'm just appreciative that Steps offers the virtual classes! I highly recommend them. read more

Emily and Taylor were exceptional teachers with a wealth of dance knowledge that they imparted in a supportive manner. They made a dance space that was about becoming personally in touch with ones own body in a dance style. Such an affirming environment. I also appreciated the manner in which they made the dance space a healing centered space. Emily's balance of teaching technique, talking through with strong mental image of how a movement could be executed, and her uplifting and affirming talks made for a space to heal and become! Thanks to Emily and Taylor and thanks to STEPS for ensuring that incredible instructors are available to dancers! read more
