There are noticeable sandbars at low tide that form pools of water that are shallow. There is also a large playground, basketball courts, and a restaurant along the boardwalk, La Casa Café. The restaurant has a large table area underneath an open-air structured roof. We were there to enjoy a quiet afternoon by the water, while reading our reading material off season. It has come to our attention that the season passes have risen quite a bit.

My husband tried to walk from Ocean Beach, but was thwarted on the bayside path by the gated private Port O Woods community. Apparently, he could have walked over to the beach and continued walking, but he didn't know this, so we picked him up by water taxi in Ocean Bay Park. After the forest, we walked on to Cherry Grove, and then I continued walking to the Pines, which was a lot of walking, but a good way to see the island.

The well-maintained and beautiful meandering wooden pathways allow you to see all of the beautiful plants and sea peaks of the Bayside as well as the ocean and the dunes. Don't go off the path as there are notices about poison ivy as well as ticks. It's recommended to wear bug lotion when you visit so you don't get bitten. We usually leave the sunken forest and visit Cherry Grove for drinks and food in town. Coming here on an overcast day is probably easier as there are sections that are out in the open and will be very hot. Make sure to bring your garbage with you and leave no trace behind while enjoying this national park treasure.

We saw the stunning cliff overseeing the beach and then we took the trail down to get our feet soaked. Next time I'll come more prepare and bring my bathing suite like the couples we saw. Be mindful of your own children here - obviously surfaces can get slippery with the water so running is not a great idea. The lifeguards are teenagers usually looking at their phones or chatting with one another. Hours for the splash park at 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and last day of the season is Sept. 2nd. There are also fun lawn games when you first enter like giant connect four and corn hole. If the sand and beach is more your thing, Venetian has you covered. There is a small section roped off in the water designated for swimming. The food section is fast-food esque - think burgers, dogs, that sort of thing. Last time we got a soft pretzel which, at $6.50 was a bit outrageous. And it was underwhelming. We sat at one of the picnic tables - no food allowed in the splash park area. They do have concerts here at night which is fun, and a great (free) family summertime activity. In the off-season, the playground here is awesome. Great for the 3-8/9 year old range. It is also completely closed in via gate, which always makes me feel more comfortable.

I was hoping that because it was midweek in the afternoon that it would be less crowded but I was wrong. Their small slide wasn't working so there were cones around it. My 2 year old kept getting splashed in the face by the older kids running through but she didn't seem to mind. We spent about 45 min here and that was enough. There was an ice cream man parked as well as a beachfront with a playground to explore as well.
