Plus we had just had a small sinkhole open up in our backyard which we thought might be related. So we asked our neighbors who had had some work done in the last year or so, and they highly recommended ClearRiver Environmental. The only negative, I would say, was that the scheduling was a little vague. They said "We might be able to fit you in sometime this weekend. We'll call you later with a two-hour window, and then give you another call when the crew is 30min away." No call ever came, so I placed another call to follow up later in the week. They were able to give a definite date and time window during that call, so we were all good. Brian and Hector came at the scheduled time. They were polite, knowledgeable, and got right to work. We had an unusual problem which took some time to get to the bottom of, but they were diligent in their investigation and wouldn't leave until they'd gotten to the bottom of it. Our heads were spinning a little with the possibility of having to replace our whole system to the tune of a few thousand dollars, but it turned out that all we needed was a patch where the pre-fab cesspool had ruptured. They couldn't do the job right then and there, which was understandable because they weren't really equipped for that service, but got us all scheduled for an estimate on the spot. The very reasonable fee they charged for coming out and diagnosing the problem is going to come off of the cost of the patch job, so it was basically a free visit, which is extremely generous. THEN, later the very same day, our cesspool started overflowing. We got right back on the phone with them. Paula helped us schedule an emergency visit for the very next day. John came out, even though it was Father's Day, and it was his first as a new father :). And just like Brian and Hector, he was extremely polite, professional, and wouldn't leave until the problem was solved. We again found that the solution was simpler than the dreaded full system replacement, and this time, they didn't charge us at all. Extremely generous. Great company. Great people. 10/10 can't recommend enough.

He located and opened the septic tank that hasn't been opened in many years. He was honest and said it was fine and did not require service. I had him do it anyway since it was open and I wouldn't have to worry about it for a long time. He left it spotless! He returned the next day with his father (family business) with camera and all the tools needed to tackle a clog of any size. They used the camera to locate the mild clog and used a large snake to clear it. They were knowledgeable, professional, friendly and showed me everything as they worked so I learned a lot. We had been satisfied with the response time and service before and assumed we would get the same again. They came promptly and attempted to clear the line, but after a half hour told me the line was clogged with roots and could not be opened and presented me a bill for the failed clean out, took my check and left. We waited for almost a week for them to give us a $2500 quote to replace the lateral. Before spending that kind of money we opted for a second quote. When I explained the situation to the new company, Their first suggestion was to let them try to clear the drain. Within five minutes snaking the line, the clog was cleared! I gladly paid them to finish Dave's job and threw away Dave's quote. The next day, I decided to call Dave Lange to tell them what happened and to ask what their refund policy was in this situation. The woman who answered the phone, took my message and promised to call back. Several days later with no return phone call I called again. This time, a man, who I assumed was an owner, answered the phone. He seemed a bit evasive about any kind of reparation, but promised me he would discuss it with someone and call me back. Another week later I called again and left a message with no return phone call. Another week later I called back and gave them one last opportunity to call me back. That was a week ago and still no callback! I am not upset that they couldn't do the job right the first time. I'm upset that they had no customer service follow up. Not even a courtesy call. Nothing! They had no problem taking our money for an unfinished job. But they did not value our business enough to make a simple phone call. Terrible customer service. Terrible business ethic.

Then told me the job would cost $1,200. I told him I'll let him know, shook hands and he walked away. After about five minutes he came back and knocked and asked if the office said anything about a service fee, obviously confused. No service was rendered, no pumping, snaking etc. After calling the office the OWNER gets on the phone and threatens to call the cops, hoping to scare us into giving him money. Knowing that we've done nothing wrong I told him to go ahead, to which he called me an AS***** over the phone. Don't let these people near your home.
