HORRIBLE experience: - They tell you to leave a positive Google review BEFORE YOU EXIT THE EXAM CHAIR and will check to make sure you have! -As others have stated, they give you issues regarding insurance. I knew my procedure was covered but they told me to pay out of pocket and would submit a claim to my insurance for reimbursement. I followed up with them several times for months before they finally filed one and once they did, they used an old billing code. My insurance notified them to resubmit with an updated one and they have refused and given me a runaround. If you don't know your rights as a patient and your evidence of benefits, this office will screw you over. I have proof of constant follow up and that the code they used is old. I'm now working directly with my insurance to look into the matter since they (Sherry specifically, I think that's her name) are being unhelpful. Beware of this place. Only thing that was okay was the Doc was quick, but there was a lack of post op instructions and that can make or break the results of a procedure. read more

I went in to get 3 out of 4 teeth extracted.. I left with my clothes bloody && face bruised from 1. Choking on my own blood during the extraction && 2. The use of force to keep my face still while extracting my teeth. I remember crying in pain throughout the whole thing because I was not fully sedated and not being able to go through with the last tooth because the dentist couldn't take me crying. I ended up going back a month later to get the last one pulled but I requested to be heavily sedated because of the first time. Moses Datson is an awful person. A deplorable human being. He doesn't accept government and most other insurances intentionally. His intentions are to drain your pockets and mistreat you. Feral street cats have a better disposition than him. He is unnecessarily aggressive and disrespectful. The office looks rundown and the equipment and surgical tools look old and dirty. He will do his best at bullying you into spending an exorbitant amount of money because he knows you're in pain. His behavior is likened to that of the mythical yeti. Wild horses behave better that Moses Datson. His bedside manner is non-existent. It's like a chop shop in there. He doesn't give an iota about the patient because his focus is the money. He will try to trick you out of using your insurance, promise to reimburse you if the claim he bills is paid by the insurance, but then he will not file the claim. He is positioned in a low income neighborhood and he is heartlessly charging them no less than $1,200 to pull a single tooth. Just one. Luckily, he isn't the only oral surgeon in Brooklyn and I never will grace his rickety office again, in life. So all in all, don't go there. Avoid him. read more

if i could give this provider negative stars i would have. While i was waiting to be seen i was called up to the front desk to discuss my insurance, The receptionist claimed she tried to contact me and got a "busy signal" receptionist claims she tried to contact me the Friday before my appointment (Also a LIE) i do not any received call or missed calls from the office. So i know she is lying! She then asked for my referral which was also never stated to me prior to my appointment that i needed one, so i called my referring my dentist to have them fax it over only to be told i was still not going to be seen. Receptionist then called me up a second time to explain to me that my insurance was only going to cover at 75% of the dental work, so i said okay so i am going to be responsible for 25 % of the dental work she stated she had to ask the dentist if he was willing to accept and "she stated he was not" My theory of the office staff is incompetent, (she could of called my insurance and asked for a pre determination) but since she did not do her due diligence i was turned away. The Dr is greedy. If i walked into the office as an emergency with no insurance the Dr would of clearly accepted all of my cash. He will be reported to my insurance and i will be filing a grievance. read more

The staff is nice but the dentist on the other hand has a tendency to speak down to patients. Terrible customer service, when asked to explain medication, office policy, or the larger the reasoning behind certain processes taken through the extractions process. they lack any of the standard modern technology necessary to run a business (I.e a card reader or ability to send emails). This lack of standard equipment makes customer experience unnecessarily difficult compared to the ease of service readily available @ other establishments. (I.e any respectable doctors office would at least have an email address and payment processor) There is Also No efficient forms of communication within the office itself as the receptionist I talked to on the phone led me to expect different then the situation I walked in to (falsely claiming I would be able get my teeth extracted and that I could use a credit card to handle my copay.) the receptionist present on my appointment date told me something totally different, which ended up different from what the nurse told me which again change d when the doctor sees me. I read a review before that talks about not judging the exterior of the building.  Unfortunately the exterior of the building matches the service that you receive inside. I entered a decrepit building to climb what seemed like a million stairs to the 2nd floor. The space looks unsanitary and every room I went into looked ragged and old. After a wait of an hour and a half I was finally brought in to take an xray. Actually I was asked to sit on a  hard plastic chair in the xray room and asked to wait. Young lady who conducted it was quick and efficient. Then brought to another room to wait again.  Now I've been here for approximately two hours. My appointment was to check whether or not I would be able to have an implant put in. After these two hours he puts a finger into my mouth and says yes you have enough gum for the survey... tells me that I'm an ideal candidate and removes the gloves! He then asked me if I want to make another appointment? My answer is a resounding and absolute no. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I've been to other dentists who are much more quick and efficient. There isn't any respect for a patient's time and this place is about quantity over quality/ making money. read more

Went here yesterday to get all four of my wisdom teeth extracted. The nurses are super nice and so were the women at the receptionist. Dr. Datson is very friendly and makes you feel super comfortable before he starts the procedure. He extracted all four of my teeth within half an hour and I have minimal pain and swelling. First let me say I was hesitant because of the location. The exterior looks run down but Yes, I was in pain at this point I would have went to a guy in the alley to pull my tooth. Luckily this place was a diamond in the rough. I was quiet nervous because my first extraction from a different dental office was horrible. Dr. Datson asked if I was nervous and insured me I had nothing to worry about. When he came back he gave me a numbing medication and next thing I know he was done in 1,2,3. I couldn't believe it no pain, no pressure.....did I pass out? It is now almost a month and I have experienced ZERO pain. Hands down the best. My second time here and I'm sold!! Again dr. Datson made a miracle happen (in my book, I'm usually very afraid of dentists or any teeth work). This is my go to dentist/oral surgeon from now on!! Dr Datson has the hands of gold and such can awesome warm personality that makes you feel so calm and relaxed before extracting the teeth. I had a quick an easy tooth extraction! I had a cracked tooth and a supposedly finding out I need to take out my wisdom tooth. The Dr. said just kill two birds with one stone and get it over with. Went here this morning (3/26/11) for extractions. Dr. Moses Datson was the one who performed the surgery. He was compassionate and took the time to explain what was going on with my teeth and what my options were. It felt like he was seeing me eye-to-eye rather than the condescending vibe that a lot of medical professionals give off. The other staff, receptionist and RN(?), were also very professional. They were courteous and also knew what they were doing. It's a good way to start when you're about to be sedated and have serious work done in your mouth. I ran out twice before the procedure, once to tell my wife that I was going to receive a sedative by IV in addition to the Novocaine shots in my mouth, that I was getting 3 extractions, and that I might be more woozy than we had anticipated after it was done. I ran out the second time to use the restroom. Even though I may have stalled this well-oiled machine, Dr. Datson joked about it saying that he had to get me while we were both in the room or I would run out again and asked me if I was sure I wanted to get it done today. I overheard from a patient that they *only* do extractions, but I hope not because I would want to return here for any oral surgery needs. I came here after being given a referral to get my daughters tooth extracted. First impressions are important!! Firstly, when I called to make the appointment, the receptionist had a very thick Russian accent which made it extremely difficult to understand her. Apparently he she didn't understand English to well either, because when I called to confirm the day before my appointment, she scheduled it for me & not my daughter. The entrance/ground floor of this place is horrible! The floor was sticky and dirty. The elevator was run down and the glass in the elevator window looked as if it had been punched out. The stench in the waiting room was horrible. My skin crawled as soon as I walked in. Yuck! We waited for about an hour to be seen, but once we were inside, everything went smooth and quickly. They promised to put me to sleep with anesthesia to do teeth extraction. I agreed set up the appt only for them only to find they changed my procedure on appt day and said no we only do topical lidocaine. Now my entire face up to my eye is numb and I felt pain throughout the procedure. Worst part they have treated me like a baby through this entire ordeal not taking my opinion into consideration. This my second time coming here after the first time i waited over two hours just for them to tell me that they needed approval from my insurance. Really!?! No one could have told me that 2 hours ago? 2!!! Now its two weeks later and they got their approval I'm still waiting in the waiting room. What is the point of an appointment and you're still waiting hours later after yoir appointment time? I'm starting to think there is only one dentist on this side. This makes no sense at all. I'm not sure why this place has such bad reviews. I will say for 1 the hallway can use some love as far as it looking presentable. But this inside wasn't a bad look. The wait time yes is a bit excessive. But it's a doctors office what can you expect. My appointment was for 12pm and I was seen around 3 pm. The best part was the dentist. He made me feel safe and okay going through with the procedure. He had a personable attitude and made me laugh through my nervousness. Long version: Let me just start by saying that I chose this location based on the good reviews left previously. Albeit there are two, it was still much better reviews than another location I had gone to previously, where the staff was professional but the procedure seemed shoddy (felt immense pain despite the anesthesia). I made an appointment for 10 am (signed in 9:59) and clearly seeing a lot of people in the waiting room (about 15) I asked the receptionist how long the wait would be. With a very bored expression, she told me it would be quite a wait. I asked around how long, and she said 20-25 minutes. Even hearing that, I knew that was a blatant lie but I took my seat and waited to be called. I was called in after 12pm. Once inside, the woman who took the X-rays and the Doctor himself was really very nice. The procedure took less than 5 minutes and I felt no discomfort except for the shots which is standard. I was then escorted into another waiting room in the back where I proceeded to wait more while other patients came in after their extractions. It was getting to be quite a while and I had a lot of discomfort holding the bloody drool in my mouth, I got up a couple of times to ask about more gauze to a woman who kept holding her hand up and saying she'd be right with me. I waited as other people who had come in after me were taken care of while I waited. I couldn't hold it any longer and the bloody drool got all over my sweater, at which point I became angry and confronted the woman, who told me i was not supposed to spit it out but swallow it. I asked her why she hadn't told me earlier when I was going up to her and pointing to my mouth, and her reason was that patients don't really remember the instructions they are given, that they forget it right away, which makes absolutely no sense because I was clearly lucid and at that point I just wanted the prescription for the antibiotics and painkillers which she had with her all along. It was 3pm at that point, I had to get out of there, so I asked the receptionist if she could call me cab service because with all the cotton gauze I was barely audible. She told me, "We don't have a car service here. Do you have the number for one?" I told her no, I am not from the neighborhood, and did she know the numbers of any. She said "I don't know of any, but there's a place across the street." I don't understand why someone who works at an oral surgeon's office does not even know the number of a car service, not every patient can just drive off by themselves after oral surgery or can be escorted home. Even my general dentist has a car service number for patients who may need it, and I couldn't believe how condescending her tone when she said they did not have a car service. NO kidding. What doctor's office has their own car service. This woman clearly does not care about her job or the people who come to the office as this is the same woman who said it would be a 25 minute wait. Not worth it in my opinion. I was not the only one waiting as long as I did. A woman who came in right after me also left with me in the same elevator. I just can't believe the amount of unprofessionalism found here. Obviously two contradictory false philosophies at this office. One woman thinks that after a procedure patients can't remember instructions to swallow their spit, while another thinks you're completely fine to cross a busy street to get car service home. Nice. This place is sketchy, and that's being generous. The entryway is dirty (garbage on the floor and dirt on the walls) and the elevator looks like somebody put a bullet through the glass on the door. I'm not joking. The waiting room is full of plastic folding chairs and I saw graffiti on the floor. Seriously, this place is sketchy. Despite my reservations about the environment, I checked in and sat down. About 30 minutes later the woman at the desk told me that my dentist never sent over the specialty referral form and I needed to get that. After trying to my (now former) dentist to fax the form over, I grew more and more uncomfortable. 2 hours after stepping foot in the building I left without ever seeing the surgeon. So let's be fair here: this is not a review of the services they provided, but more of the office environment. Call me crazy, but I think that since most people don't enjoy the dentist, an effort should be made to make people feel comfortable while waiting. I had to take my Mom to this office for 2 extractions. Upon entering this office off the elevator, I noticed a packed filled room. My first thought was that I hoped there were 10 surgeons here to accommodate all the patients. Although there were general dentistry and oral surgery out of this office, it did not matter. People were waiting to long. This office over books and leaves people waiting. The blonde receptionist was not helpful and seems like she is used to people complaining. It took over and hour and a half to pull 2 teeth. My mom said the surgeon gave her 3 needles prior to sedation which is backward to me. The idea is to sedate and relax the patient prior to performing any work in the mouth. My Mom walked out in a lot of pain. I am not a dentist but I know that improper placement of Novocaine will result in not properly be anesthetized for a procedure. DC 37 union had this place on their list. On August 10 was my second time there, first time was great yes the hallways is dirty and nasty, I was so scared to get on the elevator fearing i would have got stuck so i walked up the stairs. My appointment was for 3pm i didn't get out of there until almost 5:30 and i was just having a growth removed from the inside of my mouth which i was called in the back office about 4pm, they took ex-rays and had me sat in the chair i almost fell asleep waiting for someone to come in to talk to me, but once the dentist came in he was great and took the time to explain to me what he was going to do. My problem is it been 2 months and my claim is still not submitted to my insurance company, after calling a while ago and they told me they was going to submit it that day. read more

We had a 10am appointment and it was 11 before we were called in for an xray. The office staff is rude and could use some lessons on customer service. After waiting an hour my son was sat in a chair and proceeded to wait for another hour+. We are still waiting to see the Dr. If referred here run in the other direction. read more

Never. Ever. Don't even think about it. This place is ridiculous. Overlooking the fact that the place is immensely sketchy looking, as if it's a crack joint, my main complaint is how much of a scam artist that piece of crap dentist is. I wanted to extract only ONE wisdom tooth. After an xray, he told me that all of my wisdom teeth were going to go crooked like the one I was in pain with. Even though I thought it unlikely since my teeth felt as straight as ever, I trusted this douche and let him take out all four with the assurance that the pain isn't very bad and that I'll be okay. I wondered if he was just greedy, but let it go and just said okay. After coming home, and with the anesthetic wearing off, the pain was becoming unbearable when I noticed that gave me tylenol. Friggin tylenol, entirely to no benefit whatsoever. I'm waking up from the worst headache I've ever had, crazy migraines, ridiculously swollen gums, and now a cold coming in. Of course, I figure he could give something more effective, as my sister suggested to be easily possible, while wondering why he didn't in the first place. Lo and behold, the secretary tells me, "We don't provide anything stronger than tylenol. You can try something over the counter." Verbatim. Outright BS. Please don't go to this place. I went to his office for the third time and went through the regular 4-5 hour wait, and when I went inside the obnoxious doctor told me that I needed a referral from the orthodontist( the orthodontist told me I wouldn't need it) for one procedure and he didn't have the supplies ready for the other. I was being so polite and requesting that he listen to what I had to say, but he was being so rude and didn't even apologize once that i had to wait so long let alone take it into consideration. This place was very clean and professional. The staff is friendly and the nurses (hygenists?) are wonderful. Dr. Datson is very kind and answered all of my questions. I got 2 wisdom teeth out this morning and 6 hours later I have no swelling. The only problem was that I had to wait around for about an hour after my scheduled appointment time to get the ball rolling on the extraction. Dr. Datson is an amazing oral surgeon. Although the facility isn't optimal on the exterior, it doesn't influence my opinion on the treatment. The wait time was lengthy, but once they took my x-rays the rest of the process was smooth sailing. I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted and they were removed in a time efficient manner and with high precision. I had minimal issues with healing and I attribute that to Datson's good work. Plus, he is extremely personable and explains everything thoroughly. The woman who does the billing was also so helpful and I am thankful for her aid and patience. Overall, I would highly recommend Dr. Datson and would not be deterred by the negative reviews. I had 2 teeth extracted here, the last one ended in dry socket. Very very painful.. My appointment was for 9AM, yet I was seen after 11. The only good thing about this place is their staff are very friendly and they use anesthesia. You are definitely not given special treatment or priority here. read more

HORRIBLE!!! By far the worst experience I have ever had in a doctors office, the woman at the front was completely unprofessional and unhelpful. I did not have my referral form but was able to email them a picture of it, the Russian woman at the desk then said she need to contact my insurance company to see if this was allowed which was no problem but I told her to make sure you tell them my ride picking me up after the procedure will be dropping of the original copy. She did not tell them this and they said no and if I wanted to call myself then do it, so of course I did. The woman from my insurance said this was fine and I told the lady who now told me she needed to talk to her doctor to make sure its okay with him now, so now she switched up the entire thing on me while I am in so much pain needing my surgery done. Then she came back to tell me the doctor now said now, she refused to call my insurance company back WHICH IS HER JOB, and when I asked to speak to the surgeon she told me he was surgery until 5pm (it was 2pm) and I have already been in the office for 2 hours so I asked her was I going to be there until 5pm to get my surgery? She was terrible and I would advise anyone to find a better place with a staff that actually wants to help the patient not make it more stressful. read more

I made an appointment for 10:00 am and was called in quickly for my x-ray approximately 30 minutes, but waited 3.5 hours before I was able to see the dentist for an extraction. Unacceptable. Dr. Datson was pleasant and did apologize for the wait citing that it was an unusally busy day. The procedure itself went smoothly. Datson is a good dentist. I agree with the other reviewers about the facility being in dire need of upkeep. It looks disgusting. On another note, I called my insurance company in advance to see if I would incur charges and they said I wouldn't. I even triple checked. When I was given my paperwork I was told that I was required to pay a $200 copay for anesthesia. Although the insurance infomed me that it was covered at full cost. I paid to avoid the drama as I was already in the dentist chair. If anything I would deal with the insurance company later on. A few weeks later upon reviewing my claim I noticed that I was only responsible for a $20 copay. My insurance company told me that I need to contact the office which I did. The office manager quickly returned my phone call, reviewed the Explanation of Benefits took my debit card information and told me I would receive a refund in 2 business days. 1 week later and still no refund. I phoned to follow-up and the curt Russian receptionist told me that the doctor had not been in the office and needed to review the refund since he was the owner. Very conflicting information as I was told it would be taken care of. Overall, Datson is a solid practioner but his dingy office space, staff and adminstrative practices leave a lot to be desired. read more

I brought my daughter for wisdom teeth extractions (all 4). Dr. Moses Datson said that she would be under anesthesia for the procedure. She awoke after the first tooth was pulled and was crying and in panic for the other three. They brought her out to the recovery room and she was shaking so much she couldn't walk without assistance. A perons assisted her to the chairs but they left her alone. They still didn't get me from the waiting room. When I went to her, she was bleeding profusely and shaking and crying her heart out. I took her home as fast as I could since I didn't want to argue with them at this time. (They were actually torturing another patient at the time.) When I went with her for the follow up and questioned the doctor about her waking up despite his promise that she would be out, he siad, "well, there is only so much we can do in the office." Recommendations, absolutely none! I wish they had a button for below zero in stars! Where do I begin? Well exterior appearance is everything, so with that being said...they can definitely take a few renovations! Once entering you pretty much have the same type of feeling "depressed"! The elevator looks like it's from the early 1900's! So now you go up to the 2nd floor where there is a waiting area that is divided in two. There is a side for braces & another for oral surgery. There is a bathroom that is shared by both offices for the patients in this waiting area. I must say that the bathroom is so disgusting & filthy, that no one should have to use something like that! The floors in the bathroom were extremely filthy, the receptacle was overflowing with garbage onto the floor, there was no toilet paper, no hand soap, no mirror! How do you explain this? The explanation was that these items have been stolen & children come in & mess it up. All of the above may be true; however daily maintenance is very key, so there is really no excuses...absolutely none! My reason for saying this is because if staff are using this bathroom as well then it's bad, but not too bad, but they're not! Their bathroom is located inside & is immaculate! Clearly something is wrong with this picture! The people that patronize your business (patients) deserve a clean bathroom, deserve to communicate with someone that speaks English clearly, deserve to communicate with staff that are pleasant & "competent"! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I had a 4:00 appt and when I arrived (on time for my appt) there were at least 15 patients on the list before me and I was told that the surgeon "just got in" at 4:00pm. I didn't get to see Dr. Datson until about 7:00pm. He was very unfriendly and seemed upset that I didn't want to pull all four of my wisdom teeth. He pulled two of them. I also thought that I would be put to sleep for this procedure but no I was awake. They gave me local sedation that made me woozy but I felt him yank them out of my mouth. On my way out, I noticed that the woman who does the x-rays was laughing at me because I was crying. Two days later, I develop throbbing pain. I call Advanced Oral Surgery and they tell me that Dr. Datson is out all week and there is not a referring Oral Surgeon for me to see. I kept telling the receptionist that I thought I had a dry socket but she kept telling me I didn't. Then I called back a few days later to make an appt for the following week to finally see the doctor. The Russian receptionist was very rude and told me that I had to be at the office by 4:00pm because that is their last appt (even though I was there at 4 the week before and didn't see the doctor until 7:00pm so I don't see the difference). I just started a full time job and could not be there at 4:00pm. I found a different oral surgery office that I HIGHLY recommend, it is called KINGS HIGHWAY ORAL SURGERY, read the YELP reviews. I went to Kings Highway Oral Surgery and found out that I had a dry socket. I was in pain for 9 days straight and nobody at Advanced Oral Surgery cared. Dr. Datson was nowhere to be found the week after pulling my wisdom teeth. I also paid money out of pocket at this office on top of having insurance. upon entering I was a little bit skeptical but I was in pain and walked in with no appointment. there was a bunch of people in a waiting room but I understood there are two different practices. the receptionist explained to me that they would see me if I don't mind waiting because there were people with booked appointments.I don't know what utopia everybody else here lives in, but I expected to wait pretty much everywhere I go in NYC. I was in pain so I decided to stay. though I didn't have any referral which was needed because of my insurance, the receptionist said because I'm in pain she would call it in for me.I was quickly called for an xray. to be seen took time. when I asked how long will it take, It was explained to me that some people are being put to sleep and some extractions are more difficult and take time. the nurse called me to the room. the doctor I saw was Dr.Datson. he was very friendly and explained what was needed to be done. I decided I wanted to be put to sleep. while the Dr. was talking to me, all I knew when I got up the procedure was finished. so it was painless and fast. they put me in another room which took some time, then they explained I couldn't spit for 24 hours(yuk) to stop bleeding. had my wisdom tooth removed yesterday . the thought alone had me wrecked . got to the location about 2 40 . my appointment was scheduled for 3.30. i was seen a lil after 4 despite the fact that the room was filled to capacity . patients with appointments were seen first. i was xrayed and placed into the examination room where the lovely dentist came in gave me 4 shot which i must admit i felt nothing.(eyes shut) and no one on this earth has a fear of needles more than i do . he left came back a few mins later and started the party .he made me as comfortable as possible cracking good old jokes then he injected me some sedative and a few seconds i was calm . Didnt take a good 2 mins for my tooth to be pulled and the whole process over. i didnt feel nothing but a lil tugg,i was escorted to the recovery area where i waited to be picked up by my sisters,it a couple hrs after and am up with no pain . just not able to open my mouth fully. but ill take that over the pain . Run to him .have your tooth removed . wonderful staff. just call to schedule your appt Asap..Amazing dentist, sad that i didn't get his name but my appt was on 07.17.17 . everyone has different experience but mines was great hence the reason i give 5 stars. read more
