But I had a great experience today with Cool Heat Mechanical Systems in Denver. My house has two furnaces, both of which needed a check-up and filter change. A friend recommended Cool Heat and I was so glad they had. Paul, the owner, was completely professional, very knowledgeable, and ***gave us one the fairest price*** I've ever gotten from an HVAC firm. The cost for checking both furnaces thoroughly, replacing the filters, running carbon monoxide tests, and spending several minutes talking to us about our furnaces was only $134 which included travel time. We now have smoothly running furnaces, more knowledge than we ever would have had about the age and condition of our HVAC equipment, and the peace of mind to know everything is working well. I would recommend this company to anybody. I'm sure you'll have as positive an experience as I did.

One of my neighbors recommended Cool Heat, so I gave them a call on Friday afternoon around 3:30PM, thinking I'd get a call back next week. He was wrapping up another service call in the area, so came right over in about 30 minutes. He was GREAT! Our HVAC was frozen up with gunk and he cleaned it all up. He did confirm our suspicions about our ducting system - woefully under trunked (old 4" ducts) with lots of breaks. He gave us a reasonable price for upgrading, but recommended that we don't need to do it now. So, we'll now be able to save the money for that project (that we suspected we should have done 4 years ago when we installed our new units). Thankfully, he confirmed that our actual equipment was great and that there is no need to replace those. (My fear was always that someone would come in and recommend a whole new system). Best $125 ever spent - an hour on site to fix us up! We will definitely be hiring Cool Heat to come back to upgrade our ducting later this year! As a bonus, he also services Rinnai water heaters - because we live in Englewood (hard water), we need to get it serviced. I've gotten outrageous quotes for that in the past - his quote is substantially lower than everyone else, so I'll have him to that, too.

I was connected to JM Heating and Air through American Home Shield, and I wouldn't go with anyone else. The Price: I called a couple other places for quotes, and JM H+A were several THOUSAND dollars under anyone else's quotes. They got me a 2.5-ton 16 SEER A/C unit and a 2-stage furnace for $7,000. If I would've gone with a 13 SEER, it would've been $6,000. The Work: They say that WHO you hire for your HVAC is more important than WHAT you get installed, and JM H+A definitely know what they're doing. After paying for new refrigerant last year, "Advanced Home and Commercial Services" came out and essentially told us there's nothing that could be done. When J+M came out this year, they added the little refrigerant the A/C unit needed, but had a guess that it was actually that our furnace was too big for our house. Sure enough: in addition to needing a new A/C unit, the furnace that Colorado Discount Heating and Cooling installed 2 years ago is actually too big for our duct work, so all the cool air was going around the fan instead of being pushed up into the vents. J+M installed the right size A/C unit and furnace for our house, and now our house stays cool again! In addition, the furnace was installed incorrectly and with a bunch of janky modifications, and J+M fixed them all at no additional cost. Honesty: Jason and Brian were very honest with their recommendation. They told me I simply needed a basic 13 SEER A/C unit and a new furnace (2 stage would be best + save me money). When I pushed for a 16 SEER, they told me that they didn't think it was worth the money, but they'd still install that one if I wanted. Dealing with AHS: Since American Home Shield makes you jump through a bunch of hoops to get your A/C unit replaced, it's been frustrating in the past. However, Brian jumped through all the AHS hoops and got them to pay for $2,100 of the new A/C unit!

I was harassed and threatened by the owner repeatedly and now fear for the safety of my family. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY, YOU WILL BE SORRY!!! Update 9/28/19: To make this situation worse this company continues to lie instead of completing the project and repairs. Here are the facts based on the owners comments below: - the pictures I provided on this post were taken less than 24 hours after I was told the job was completed and 2 hours after I received the first voicemail from the owner stating that he was demanding payment in full or he would file a lien on my property. - I requested 5 repairs to be made, they came back and fixed 2 of them and refused to fix the others. - The 2 repairs that were resolved were the dryer vent was placed inside the wall cavity, as it should have been, and they extended combustion air vents so that they would pass inspection. - JM Heating and Air refused to make the following 3 requests: 1) They refused to add a heat duct to the laundry room which was clearly requested at the time time they provided the estimate and included in the written estimate I was provided. At no time did they ever state this was not included until after the work was completed and then I was told they could add it for more money. 2) They refused to attach the exterior vents to the concrete with the appropriate anchors and clean the excessive caulking. 3) They refused to add expansive foam to properly seal around the 4 ducts that exit the house. This would have taken less than 5 minutes and less than $5 in parts. I was told they never do that but would for an additional $50-100. I have received numerous angry voicemails and texts threatening to lien my property. The first was left less than 24 hours after the job was supposedly completed and before I took the pictures on this post. Even though the owner did not physically threaten me or my family, I am still frightened for our safety do to the insanity if this situation. I now get to look over my shoulder every minute of the day and hope that this does not turn into something far worse simply because I hired this company and expected them to do the work they quoted me for and do a decent job.

There was no hard sell just discussion of facts as well as the shortcoming relative to health and safety items that were not up to code. We ended up having Quality West replace our boiler, add an additional zone to the basement and install three thermostats, one for each floor. Rob and his expert team (Bob and "The Kid") did a wonderful job and performed the job in 2.5 days. They setup very efficiently and cleaned up well. Bob was very thorough in explaining the system and labeled all of pertinent components. The system functions as it should and was within our budget. From the jump there were red flags; in retrospect I should have realized and not chosen them, but alas. Hopefully this review can save others the money and headache! Our HVAC system was antiquated and needed replacing, so I reached out to Quality Home. I was given a quote $3,000 over my budget. When I said as much they immediately said they could meet me at my price point which makes me wonder... Why the high quote to begin with? Where would that extra $3k have gone? The day of the install went okay. They took a few hours longer than they said they would which disrupted my workday, but fine - I can understand that. I was never sent photos of the condenser on the roof which I was promised - I had to ask a few times to get those. Our new HVAC worked well for a few weeks, then started randomly shutting off. During peak heat times. I'd come home from work to a boiling house. Our thermostat kept saying it was running too long with no change in temperature. I brought this up to my contact at the company - a director level guy - and he told me my thermostat was "trash" and it needed to be replaced. Me, knowing nothing about this stuff, went along and agreed to pay the $400+ for a new thermostat. It turns out that the actual issue was that the folx doing the installation wired the entire thing incorrectly. I was still charged full price for the thermostat/install and offered no apology. My old thermostat was better and easier to use. Fast forward a few months and I noticed our HVAC was leaking water. I called them in a panic as we were going out of town, it was the heat of summer, and I didn't want our cat to overheat. They were able to come out quickly (for a high fee) and told me the leaking was due to us not changing our filter frequently enough. I was again charged $400+ for this. It seemed weird to me that a dirty filter would cause leaking, but again... not my area of expertise. I took their advice and started changing our filter at the cadence recommended. Guess what? Still leaking. A LOT. This is definitely an HVAC issue, not a filter issue as our filters are pretty pristine. I've been trying to get in touch with my same contact (and others) for literal weeks and am being met with total silence. I want to talk to someone about this but it appears that professionalism isn't a value of Quality Home HVAC. Moral of the story? Absolutely go with a different company - I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.
