They took photos of my teeth and showed them to me on a large monitor to point out where I had tooth decay. Since there were so many "cavities" they divided the work into two appointments. The first appointment was very uncomfortable, the dentist seemed rushed and didn't want me to swallow as often as I needed to. I was sick with a sinus infection and tried to cancel the 2nd appointment on the Friday before a Tuesday appointment over a holiday weekend. They were very aggressive about wanting to charge me for the appointment. I decided to get a second opinion and actually got two other dentists to look at the photos and x-rays and they both said the so-called cavities were only stains and natural wear on the teeth and did not need treatment. Sadly, I had already paid for over $2K in unneeded and uncomfortable dental work.

It is clear that the objective is not to give you a clean bill of good oral health, rather, it is to tell you a host of services that you "need" that they are all to happy to go ahead and jot down in your file and get you set up with an appointment ASAP! I have a reasonable tolerance for nonsense, having dealt with the public in my career, so while the salesman, er, dentist was rattling off procedures, I just said "Hmm, hmmm." After he left the room, I was more than ready to go. But wait! The hygienist asked me to wait a moment while she left the room. That "moment" turned into what felt like 15 minutes of nothing, so my patience did expire, and I made it clear that I needed to go and asked WHAT IS THE WAIT FOR? That's when she owned up and said that they were pricing out all of the procedures and were creating a price list. Why the secrecy? Why couldn't the wait request have included an advisement that they were working on that? I'll tell you why, it's because they knew that there was NO way in you-know-where that I was going for that schtick! I had been here twice, and BOTH times, it was the same song and dance. Continue to wait? Nope! I left! Things may have been different if I have said, "hey Doc, I don't like xyz about my teeth, can you make a recommdation?" But, to just get a cleaning and having an it-ain't-broke-but-we-can-fix-it experience is beyond the pale for a medical facility! That's just like going to the service department at a car dealership. You go in for a simple oil change, but they come back to you with a price list for an urgent engine replacement and a new radiator. Smarmy, grimy, slimy to say the LEAST! All of a sudden every time I went to the dentist I had cavities, need crowns etc. My most recent trip they told me I had a cavity back on my molar that needs to be filled. I said to Dr Patel, that I just had that filled by Dr Kim on my prior visit. She insisted that it was different, but I remember it because I endured the pain to get it filled. Upon my return trip for the filling, Dr Patel stated it was 2 cavities needed to be filled?!! I was like all of a sudden it is 2 cavities when my estimate stated only 1. Dr Patel started drilling away and about 30 mins in she stopped drilling and said to me, I am doing my best but the cavity is in between my back molar and the adjacent tooth. She also stated it could possible need a root canal if the filling doesn't work. I said I came to fill 1 cavity that turned into 2 cavities and now you are saying possible a root canal ?? Then I rolled my tongue across the area and was SHOCKED to feel my molar bored out so much that was there any tooth left?? I asked her why she bored out, what felt like my whole tooth, so much of my tooth and she stated because of the cavity touching 2 teeth. Right then I knew this was the exact area where Dr. Kim tried to fill. I told her that Dr Kim must have done it wrong, because she is telling me the cavity was underneath the filling. Common sense tells you the cavity wasn't done right the first time. So she continued drilling and about 1 1/2 hours later I left with swollen lip,do to the assistant stretching my mouth so far, and a prognosis of a possible root canal if this filling doesn't work. A couple of months later I went to a different dentist, for my 2nd cleaning for the year,and he tells me that my tooth needs a root canal. Now facing a $3000.00 root canal when this new dentist looked at the tooth she told me she could not do a root canal because my tooth was FRACTURED and needed to be pulled!!! She stated the previous dentist took out so much of the tooth that it fractured and could not be saved. So they pulled my right molar. Now this is my steak chewing tooth and now I need a $5000.00 implant!!!!! If you value your teeth do NOT go to Hamilton Mill Dental Associates because they will nickel and dime you to death and possible fracture your teeth!!! I had a crown come out from them and they couldn't see me for three days to fix it and then told me you should never go this long to get a replacement....I said that y'all would not work me in. Again Crowns should NOT come off unless they were done incorrectly the first time!! Again another$1500.00!! BEWARE of this office!!!! Stay away!!! Appointments are routinely changed, communication is disorganized, and no one seems to know what anyone else is doing. One appointment that I believed was a routine cleaning somehow turned into a 2 1/2-hour ordeal with no advance explanation. On another occasion, I was prescribed medication that should have been started before my procedure, but the prescription wasn't called in. The event that finally destroyed my confidence happened when I went in to have a chipped tooth repaired. Instead of fixing the damaged tooth, they worked on the one next to it and ended up cracking the base of the original chipped tooth. When the anesthetic wore off, the pain became so severe that I ended up in the emergency room. The result was thousands of dollars in additional treatment that never should have happened. The administrative side has been just as bad. They billed me directly for services but never submitted the claim to my insurance, leaving me to sort out a mess that should have been handled by their office. After waiting weeks for permanent crowns, I took time off work for the installation appointment. While I was driving there, the office called to say they had an emergency patient and couldn't see me. They sent me to another office later that afternoon, requiring me to take even more time off work. When I arrived, the COO apologized and informed me there had been no emergency at all. The dentist at the original office had simply decided not to complete my appointment. Being told one thing by the scheduling staff and something entirely different by management was the final straw. I canceled every remaining appointment that day. The irony? A week later, the same office that mishandled my care, my insurance, and my time called to remind me about a cleaning appointment they apparently forgot I had already canceled. Everyone understands that emergencies happen. Mistakes can happen too. What is much harder to accept is repeated poor communication, questionable scheduling practices, billing errors, and a pattern of wasting patients' time while expecting them to simply accept it. I cannot recommend this practice to anyone looking for reliable, organized, or trustworthy dental care. Honestly I think the one star rating is gracious...

I'm glad I did. Walk In: When I first walked in I enjoyed what I saw and heard. What I saw was a nice comfortable place that set me at ease a little. What I heard was nothing, as I was the only one in there for my appointment. Mind you, I'm not a fan of dentists!! I've had so many things go bad with me during appointments and procedures. Examination: I already told the woman who was doing my examination, "Look! I'm not very fond of dentists too much!" I explained why and she understood. She said I was in good hands, I said ok. I told her if you even think you may hurt me by probing me somewhere, let me know first before you do! She said I got you. Probing starting going on and she let me know each time before it happened. Yet, I wasn't in any pain like I would be at other places. On a scale of 100%, I probably felt 20% pain during my examination. If I was anywhere else, I would have felt 85% pain! So now I'm winning. After the examination a treatment plan was discussed as well as appointment made for the treatment. Overall: As I do not care for dentists too much, I feel comfortable with these guys. Like I told them, as long as y'all numb me good, and I don't feel a thing, and send me home with meds after the procedure, I'm good!! They did guarantee me that aspect of my treatment.
