I was assured that they took it. I understand how in-network and out-network works, I would never go to an out of network dentist because I would pay more out of pocket. This is why I was making sure my insurance was accepted. Upon arriving I was assured again that my insurance would cover the whole appointment. Upon leaving I was also assured again that the woman at the front office had actually spoken with my insurance and I was fully covered. Apparently my insurance is not in network so I owe $180 for that appointment. They knew what insurance I had and that it is not in network before the appointment so why would tell me I would owe nothing. Even though I was assured THREE times I would pay nothing. I know a lot about how insurance works, what my insurance pays, how sometimes procedures costs a little more after etc. I called asking and my phone call was never returned. I went in to speak with the office and the woman behind the desk just tried to confuse me by saying "oh it's related to your deductible, it hasn't been met yet." (I met my deductible in April....wrong) She blamed the problem on a girl that was no longer at the office telling me they took my insurance and she apologized. I told her I'm fine with paying money for things that I own, but I was told THREE times I would not pay a dime. I sent a very detailed explaining my interactions to the office and was told that I asked about my insurance being accepted not if they were in network (misleading words, but I had asked this of other dentists and they knew what I meant) and that I had told the girl at the front office that I was fine with paying (Of course I pay what I should....BUT I was told three times I would NOT be paying, and then I was hit with a $180 bill) I will never be returning

Also they said I had multiple cavities that needed to be filled and pushed me to get loans to pay for it. According to them I was going to have to pay $2,000 to have everything fixed. I decided to get a second opinion because it didn't seem right I was told that I didn't have a single cavity and all I had was normal staining.

I recently received a boilerplate letter announcing they are dropping my Humana Advantage Medicare plan. They sent a letter filled with outright lies about maintaining a "commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality dental care". There is zero compassion in dumping the established patients who built this practice in the first place. It is blindingly obvious what is really going on here. They are kicking loyal patients to the curb so they can squeeze higher fees out of people to fund Dr. Lindsey's practice buyout and pay for their expensive new office renovations. They are prioritizing greed, profit margins, and new drywall over human beings, and it is entirely shameful. Everyone in town needs to know that this practice puts profits before people. If you want a dentist who values loyalty and patients, look elsewhere!

I can't say enough good things about Athens Family Dental. I've been coming here for years, and…read moreafter a couple of years away, I made the mistake of trying a different dental office closer to me -- and it was a terrible experience. They tried to tell me I needed 10-15 crowns, multiple procedures, and quoted me outrageous prices. I came back to Athens Family Dental for a second opinion, and as always, they were kind, honest, and professional. They let me know I only needed one crown for an old filling and didn't try to upsell me on anything unnecessary. The staff made me feel so comfortable and reassured after such a stressful experience elsewhere. I've learned my lesson -- I'll never go anywhere else again. If you want a dental office that actually cares about their patients and their well-being, Athens Family Dental is the place to go.

My son had his wisdom teeth removed, and despite being told I could stay until he fell asleep, the…read moredoctor abruptly asked me to leave the moment he arrived even though my son wasnt out yet. The nurses then made unprofessional comments about me after I left that my son heard and then they laughed about each comment including calling me a "helicopter mom" saying oh, the helicopter is out there just letting y'all know. I'm assuming that's when I left the front waiting area to the very next one closer to him because a nurse came out going towards the office and looked at me funny and turned around and went back, then my son told me they used profanity while getting him in the wheelchair. While the procedure was efficient, the bedside manner was lacking and that's putting it mildly. If you want anyone in the from office to be kind or even smile. Thr nurses literally laugh on the phone when they say hold on and seem irritated that you even call. I would caution others, especially parents of sensitive children, any children with disabilities, or matter of fact any child at all because it's uncalled for so I would say to consider a different place. Because my son heard all of this, and I didn't tell my son anything about the things he heard me say to the doctor,So that was a rough for my husband and I when he said all that on the way home. The main surgeon was extremely kind and made eye contact and was just very sweet and straight to the point very thorough though but the doctor who flew in saying I have to go, times up get out we're on a time limit here, he's asleep. I was trying to explain well sir he can't be because literally when he walked in she was injecting my his son.My biggest issue is he heard them talking about his mama and laughing at his mama, whispering. He said they talked about many other things but he said he couldn't defend me not being able to speak. I told my son at the end of this life we have to answer to what we do. That it's not his responsibility and they're grown adults and should do better. Thankfully everything went well during surgery but Please consider going somewhere else if you want some kindness and a better bedside manner. I don't usually ever ever ever leave a review but for the next parent please consider somewhere else. I'm thankful my child is older but could not magine a younger child sitting there with adults bashing their parent. Hearing my son say the worst part of the surgery was that he kept trying to say stop talking about my mama please and he couldn't speak like I said earlier. That really broke my heart for Him. The doctor is not only surgeon, he is the manager over it all..He was and has been so kind on the phone but not giving me just a second to say goodbye instead of the back and forth get out all while everyone else in the room was silent it was like a Middle School bully and everyone is standing around doing nothing about it. These are grown adults acting and talking about others all while also being responsible for sedating your child or sedating anyone for that matter and while they do that they take the time to bully laugh about others. I can't comprehend it. Why even be in a medical field if you have no empathy whatsoever for your patient. Not just empathy respect kindness you name it. Words hurt the sharper than any two edged sword as the word of God clearly states. One day and I pray it never happens they may get a patient who they pick on and that might be a patient that may be going through something in their life that might be the last straw for them. I pray that to never happen. My son is a child of God and he along with our entire family is praying for this facility to learn to love and show kindness.

The office manager first shifted blame to me, then to the receptionist (as if the office manager isn't the boss of the receptionist???)... The office manager kept trying to make up excuses on the fly... it seemed like she just wanted to make sure ANYONE ELSE caught blame so that she wouldn't have to take responsibility. She was more concerned with covering her bum than being helpful. I asked that Dr. Carter call me so that we could talk out what happened and come up with a plan to rectify the mistake. Dr. Carter apparently couldn't be bothered, OR his office manager didn't pass along the message. It could be that this office manager just wanted to hide her mistakes from her boss. Regardless, this office is just dysfunctional. Life is too short to deal with folks like Dr. Carter and his meanie office manager.

I've been in Athens for only 3 years now, and I'm so glad I found Dr. Rice…read more Things I love about the practice: 1- Professionalism of the staff and team. 2- Knowledge of current dental trends and new procedures. Dr. Rice reads medical journals and takes interest in new findings in dental health. 3- Patience with people who are phobic of dentists. Dr. Rice, although somewhat "dry", is an excellent dentist. He will only recommend procedures if you need them to be done, and takes the time to explain his reasoning. For example, i had a tooth with some of the dentin exposed and he explained that although filling the chip in is unnecessary, in the long run it would be wise since exposure of the sensitive part of the tooth to bacteria could increase the probability of decay. He allowed me time to consider if I wanted to do it, pressure free. Dr. Rice is a very calm dentist. He will talk you through each step of what he is doing if you have fear or anxiety about dental work. He is very logical, and most importantly I trust him as a medical professional. In my experience, he cares about his customers and takes pride in his superior craftsmanship. I go to two of the hygienists, and both are awesome! You won't get a better cleaning anywhere.
