    Does he do implants?

An oral surgeon would place the implant in the bone. It takes approximately 3 months to integrate (heal). Dr. Simmons would make/place the implant crown on the implant that was placed by the oral surgeon. Feel free to call us with your questions.

I switched from my previous dentist over 10 years ago because of a general lack of connection and personable-ness and have been thrilled with my decision. In addition, I knew Dr. Alex as a triathlete and felt his level of fitness and CARE for health and wellness was in line with my own and a notch above all others I had met. Also it makes all the difference that everyone in this office is efficient, conscious of your time and so upbeat and positive. My teeth chip easily and have many times, and each time Arlene and Glenn make room for me quickly and tackle the job with professionalism and perfection. At some point I expect to need porcelain veneers, as my mother has, and some bonding on my bottom front teeth. I feel in good hands no matter what my needs are. They have also recommended orthodontists in town who I trust and will be using. I'll review again then. - Nelson Wells, Athens, Georgia

Everything seemed fine, until they told me they wanted to replace every tooth in my mouth. Surprised because I had been going to more than 1 dentist every 6 months, for years. At almost 70 years old, I wasn't looking for a Hollywood smile nor could I afford it. I continued to see a soon to be retired dentist that had been practicing in Athens for 40 years. I found out a couple months ago; my dentist sold his practice. Anxious to get a crown placed on my now year-old dental implant, I called Dr. Alex's office on 06/10/2026 and was told the doctor would look at it in the morning, and they would call me back. No return call. I just called back today, 06/15/26, and spoke to Dr. Alex's wife. She explained he was either out of the office last Thursday or didn't have time, and he doesn't work on Friday. She stated he wasn't comfortable with placing my crown on my now signed off implant. Also said Dr. Brett Gray, {Oral Surgery associates}. Dr. Gray holds 3 medical degrees and has been my doctor for over 20 years. Board certified Oral Surgeon. Maxo facial degree, and a medical degree. Emory University trained. Dr. Alex's wife stated he isn't educated in crowns. I argued. " I had 2 follow up visits to evaluate my implant at my oral surgeon. Received the green light for completion. Evidently Dr. Alex's wife knows better. By the way I was told that Dr. Alex hadn't even looked at my situation and was told to go to my current dentist that sold his practice, and is in his 70's, to place the crown. Basically, refused to see me. Very disappointed.

The dentist, first, poked around and said that my teeth looked great, to start flossing and get more regular cleanings (fair), but that overall I looked good. 3. The hygienist came in second (by this time it was 8:15am, 45 minutes after my appointment) and poked around for about 3 minutes before telling me I had severe issues. Conveniently these severe issues (that the actual dentist didn't see after poking around) would cost me $2000. 4. They don't do a cleaning on the first visit. This is not made clear whatsoever. I would not have booked if I knew they did an "initial consultation" like a med spa. Also--if you offer an initial consultation, it should be free. It's a consultation for potential services rendered. When I asked about the cleaning, the lady at the desk said that whoever called me to confirm the appointment should've told me they don't do a cleaning on the first visit. Nobody ever called to confirm my appointment. So, I arrived at 7:25am for my 7:30am appointment, waited for the hygienist to arrive, was told one thing by the dentist and something completely different by the hygienist, and walked out at 8:30am after sitting in two separate waiting rooms for the majority of an hour and wasting my biyearly free checkup. Please go elsewhere and save yourself the stress and confusion.

They tried to tell me I needed 10-15 crowns, multiple procedures, and quoted me outrageous prices. I came back to Athens Family Dental for a second opinion, and as always, they were kind, honest, and professional. They let me know I only needed one crown for an old filling and didn't try to upsell me on anything unnecessary. The staff made me feel so comfortable and reassured after such a stressful experience elsewhere. I've learned my lesson -- I'll never go anywhere else again. If you want a dental office that actually cares about their patients and their well-being, Athens Family Dental is the place to go.

My son had his wisdom teeth removed, and despite being told I could stay until he fell asleep, the…read moredoctor abruptly asked me to leave the moment he arrived even though my son wasnt out yet. The nurses then made unprofessional comments about me after I left that my son heard and then they laughed about each comment including calling me a "helicopter mom" saying oh, the helicopter is out there just letting y'all know. I'm assuming that's when I left the front waiting area to the very next one closer to him because a nurse came out going towards the office and looked at me funny and turned around and went back, then my son told me they used profanity while getting him in the wheelchair. While the procedure was efficient, the bedside manner was lacking and that's putting it mildly. If you want anyone in the from office to be kind or even smile. Thr nurses literally laugh on the phone when they say hold on and seem irritated that you even call. I would caution others, especially parents of sensitive children, any children with disabilities, or matter of fact any child at all because it's uncalled for so I would say to consider a different place. Because my son heard all of this, and I didn't tell my son anything about the things he heard me say to the doctor,So that was a rough for my husband and I when he said all that on the way home. The main surgeon was extremely kind and made eye contact and was just very sweet and straight to the point very thorough though but the doctor who flew in saying I have to go, times up get out we're on a time limit here, he's asleep. I was trying to explain well sir he can't be because literally when he walked in she was injecting my his son.My biggest issue is he heard them talking about his mama and laughing at his mama, whispering. He said they talked about many other things but he said he couldn't defend me not being able to speak. I told my son at the end of this life we have to answer to what we do. That it's not his responsibility and they're grown adults and should do better. Thankfully everything went well during surgery but Please consider going somewhere else if you want some kindness and a better bedside manner. I don't usually ever ever ever leave a review but for the next parent please consider somewhere else. I'm thankful my child is older but could not magine a younger child sitting there with adults bashing their parent. Hearing my son say the worst part of the surgery was that he kept trying to say stop talking about my mama please and he couldn't speak like I said earlier. That really broke my heart for Him. The doctor is not only surgeon, he is the manager over it all..He was and has been so kind on the phone but not giving me just a second to say goodbye instead of the back and forth get out all while everyone else in the room was silent it was like a Middle School bully and everyone is standing around doing nothing about it. These are grown adults acting and talking about others all while also being responsible for sedating your child or sedating anyone for that matter and while they do that they take the time to bully laugh about others. I can't comprehend it. Why even be in a medical field if you have no empathy whatsoever for your patient. Not just empathy respect kindness you name it. Words hurt the sharper than any two edged sword as the word of God clearly states. One day and I pray it never happens they may get a patient who they pick on and that might be a patient that may be going through something in their life that might be the last straw for them. I pray that to never happen. My son is a child of God and he along with our entire family is praying for this facility to learn to love and show kindness.

Get a second opinion before stepping foot here…read more I was told I needed eight fillings and was encouraged not to worry about the cost because I could write six reviews in exchange for $20 off each. Offering discounts for reviews is already questionable--but using that to offset unnecessary dental work is a major red flag. I got a second opinion from my regular dentist over Christmas break and was told I have zero cavities. There is no reasonable explanation for that kind of discrepancy. Being told I needed extensive dental work that I did not actually need is extremely concerning and unacceptable. I would strongly urge anyone considering this office to be very cautious. Do not agree to treatment without getting a second opinion. No patient should feel pressured into procedures or be incentivized to leave reviews in exchange for discounts.

I leave message. 20 minutes go by so I call again and some young lady answered who was fairly nice. I explained the situation and she transferred me to front desk. In the middle of explaining the situation the front desk woman rudely cuts me off asking my DOB and name. I tell her that info then she tells me only thing she can do for me is extract the tooth but I was explaining I was currently away for Easter weekend and was wondering if I could get a prescription to relieve the gum abscess and she basically says no you can get it pulled or there's nothing I can do for you. Then says "Okay have a great day" as if she were ready to get me off the phone. You should really make sure you have the best appropriate people working where they will be greeting your customers. Absolutely lost a patient because of your front desk lady's lack of compassion. It's one thing to not be able to do it but it's another to simply act like you could care less that a patient is in pain. Disappointed but not surprised.
