DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY We were staying 15 miles outside of Saint Joe and before we started drinking called this company to ensure we had a ride. The gentleman seemed nice, told me he was going to try to rent his lake house to me but promised he would have cabs available. We called at 12:37 am - he said he would be there in 10 minutes. 15 minutes later, no cab - so we called back. The same nice guy was clearly upset - said he had been waiting and was about to leave. I confirmed our location and he said I was on the wrong side of the building and HUNG UP on me. We walked to the location he told us to and no one was there. I called three more times with no answer. He left 7 girls on a bachelorette party without the ride home he promised. FAIL. read more

My girlfriend and I had flown to the Midwest from New York for one of her best friend's weddings. We took city buses, subways, airlines, 'L' trains, intercity bus, and Amtrak to get around on this trip. I never thought calling a cab, typically the most splurgey and convenient mode of transport, is where things would fall apart. We took the bus up from Chicago to Benton Harbor, calling a cab when we arrived for a ride to St. Joseph. We didn't expect this to be a problematic task; you can normally get a cab to come pick you up in most any city in the country, in our experiece, in about 15 minutes or so. Especially in a tourist region like this, we figured this was a non-issue. Indeed, when we called from the bus station, they said to expect a cab in about 15-20 minutes. After a half hour, we called and they said they were "on their way... they only have one driver." Hmm. Around 45 minutes, we asked folks at the bus station if there was another cab company. Apparently, no, there was only one cab company in the entire metro region. With only one cab. I'm about ready to stand by the road and try hitchiking. We needed to check into our hotel, shower, and change for the wedding. My girlfriend calls once more, they swear they are 3-5 minutes away. And yes, around 7 minutes later, the cab finally arrived. The ride to our hotel in the next town was uneventful and reasonably priced. The wedding itself was being held in a venue in the rural woods about a half-hour drive east of the City. We had a ride from our hotel to the wedding venue lined-up with a friend, but that fell through due to circumstances beyond our control. We had been scrambling all-day for a back-up plan with other friends. However, we asked the driver before we got out at the hotel if he wasn't too busy to do a prearranged pickup at 3:45 to get us to the 4:30 wedding. He assured us that would work, and even knew the venue. It sounded like we were in sure hands, and that they'd been through this routine many times. The flat rate of $37 quoted was surprisingly reasonable. We were in the car when he made the pickup appointment with the dispatcher. Feeling relieved, we texted the other friends we'd been trying to make arrangements with and told them we had a ride. We checked in, ran upstairs, and hurriedly showered and dressed for the 3:45 pickup, rushing downstairs; my girlfriend didn't have time to do her hair how she wanted. After 15 minutes, she called the company. They remembered our pickup appointment, but "there was a shift change," and "other people had scheduled pickups around the same time." At a half hour late, she called again. The ceremony was beginning in 15 minutes, and we were a half-hour drive away. There was no other cab company to call, no bus system, and anyone else heading to the wedding from our hotel had long left. Breaking into tears at this point, she pleaded with this woman, explaining that we flew here all the way from New York for this, and if she couldn't have picked us up she should have told us instead of making an appointment and assuring us of a ride, so we could have figured something else out, and that the ceremony started at 4:30. The dispatcher said we wouldn't make it in time now. No shit. We learned via text messages that others attending the wedding were still waiting for the same cab. The only cab. At a hotel in Stevensville, the next town to the south. Everything you've ever read about monopolies is true. I flagged down a tow truck and offered to pay him $100 to drive us to the wedding outside of Watervliet. He had a tow job and couldn't. I put out my thumb and yelled at passing cars. In our suit and dress, we either looked like we were joking around or truly desperate. Someone pulled over rather quickly, even though they really thought the former. We paid this couple $100 to drive us to the wedding. As we walked up, the ceremony crowd was dispersing. About an hour and 15 minutes after Advance Cab had been scheduled to pick us up at our hotel, they called my girlfriend, asking where we were. I'm not one to be hysterical or use hyperbole or go on irrational rants. But let me go on record to say FUCK YOU, Advance Cab. I don't expect much. If you were 15 minutes late, we'd understand. If you had told us, when we asked if you could get us to this wedding in the first place, that you were too busy and we couldn't count on you. If you didn't knowingly quadruple-book riders and lie to them about the real timetable. And to the local region for putting up with this? You really want to attract return visitors to "Michigan's Great Southwest"? Shut this company down and convince someone to open a competent and professional taxi service, like you can find in every other city in the country. Usually more than one. With more than one cab. That shows up in a reasonable time when called. And certainly shows up for prearranged pickups. Or at least tells you they can't. Especially for a wedding. read more

I called the night before to arrange for a cab pickup at 6:30 am in Bridgman, MI. The cab simply would take me to an Avis rental station in Benton Harbor, MI. That morning, at 7:00am(Cab is 30 minutes late at this point) I call to check the status of the cab. I am told that it will be at my location in 20 minutes. Threeproblems here: 1.With my cab being 30minutes late, somebody should contact me. 2. I am informed that the cab is taking "a lady to work" and "we only have one cab". 3. It is now 7:45 and I am still waiting for the cab. At this point, by the time I get to the rental place (I planned to arrive at 7am) and drive to the Grand Rapids airport, my flight will probably be in the air. I called back at 7:30 to be immediately told (before even a hello) that the cab driver was on his way. This company overbooks their only cab and lies repeatedly about the timing of the cab, knowing that they can't meet your reservation time. This is apparently the only taxi service in the area. I suggest that if you have friends or family in the are that you call them or book this taxi service 2hours in advance of the time that you would generally need the taxi. The lady gave an excuse that the cab was taking a lady to work who also needed to take her baby to daycare. I replied kindly, that's nice, but if this cab doesn't get here soon, I will miss my flights, in turn missing my grandfather's funeral, which only happens once. She can be late for daycare and work, I can't miss a flight. NEVER use this service unless you absolutely have to. Advance cab should be closed immediately. I have had an issue with living in this small area after leaving a big city. Silly problems like this continue to give me a reason to leave here and never come back again. read more

I recently was involved in a car accident while traveling home to Chicago from visiting my girlfriend who lives in Detroit. A little more than halfway home I hit an ice patch and lost control sending me spinning across the highway and ultimately crashing into a fence rendering my vehicle totally useless and unable to go anywhere. I was over 150 miles from home and had no idea what my plan of action would be. I was cold, freaked out and just plain bummed. A tow truck driver from Hartford, MI picked me up and took me to the McDonald's in Hartford where I had no idea how on Earth I would make it home. I called numerous cab companies that told me they were unable to make it to my location due to the inclement weather. I finally called Advance Cab and the dispatcher (Mike) who was very friendly listened to my story and told me he could get a driver out to me but it would probably take 45 minutes to an hour because I was over 30 miles away and the highways were dangerously slippery. While I waited for the taxi I called every rental car place I could find online that was anywhere close to where I was. It was Sunday and they were all closed. I now had a cab on the way and no idea where I would be asking him to take me. I finally found a single rental car place that was open in Kalamazoo, MI which was 50 miles in the opposite direction from where I was starting out. I decided that going here to rent a car would be my only option. I was still a bit shaken from the accident and the thought of driving even further than I thought I would have to was quite daunting. My cab arrived within 35 minutes. When my driver (James) arrived he was as friendly as can be. We started on the road to Kalamazoo and I told James about the crappy day I was having and he could not have been more sympathetic. He looked at me and said "Matt, you have had a rough day man, what would your thoughts be on me taking you all the way home to Chicago?" I knew it would be a little pricey but at this point the idea of not having to drive sounded too good to pass up. James braved the storms of Michigan as well as the un-plowed Indiana roads in what was not an easy drive by any stretch of the imagination. We saw at least 50 car accidents or cars in the ditch by the time we made it back in Illinois. I am grateful to Advance Cab for not only getting me home safely but not asking me to put someone close to me in jeopardy by asking them to endanger themselves to come all the way and pick me up. I was in a terrible spot and Advance Cab not only got me home but did it at a reasonable price. I can never pay them back from what they did for me and I encourage anyone to use this company of they are in the Benton Harbor area. Thank you Advance Cab!! Unfortunately not many other options, so don't bank on Advance Cabs getting to you when they say they will - or at all for that matter. My boyfriend and I were just in St. Joe's/ Benton Harbor this past weekend and despite the awful reviews, we took the chance and called a cab anyway. Luckily a cab did arrive within 15 minutes, however it appeared to be just a regular car, so we had no idea they were at our hotel and had apparently been waiting outside for 10 minutes. We were looking to go to a bar in St. Joseph which was about a 5 mile drive. The cab had no meter whatsoever, which apparently grants their drivers the authority to charge you whatever the hell they want- $25 in our case, which is ridiculous. But, I guess when you're the own cab company in the area you have a complete monopoly over transportation and can charge whatever you want. We asked the cab driver what time they service until and he told us around 3am, and said there wouldn't be a problem trying to get a cab later. We knew we wouldn't be out too late, so were hopeful. We tried to leave the bar around 12, and conveniently we were told "No drivers were in town" and we'd maybe have a cab within 30 minutes. We continued to call, and at some point, the operator didn't even bother answering. Luckily, a good Samaritan at the bar drove us back to the hotel, otherwise we'd be forced to walk 5+ miles! Maybe their service is more reliable during the day, but otherwise I'd never recommend them and I hope for the sake of this town, and tourists Uber becomes available or a more reputable taxi company takes over and leaves this company high and dry. read more

Worst cab company I've ever dealt with! I called Advance Cab to pick up my elderly mother from her hotel and bring her to a winery where we were having a celebratory dinner. I was told right off the bat that there would be a $20 upcharge because all they had available was a sedan. He was giving me a lot of attitude since I wasn't pleased about being charged nearly $60 for an upgraded car I didn't even need. However, I agreed to it since it was more important my mom be there. I then asked to put it on my credit card and was told they "typically only take cash" (Um...that's not shady) He finally reluctantly agreed to take my credit card but informed me there would be an additional upcharge. When I balked, he told me "we have to pay a fee, you know" and I said that I knew there was a 2% fee. When he told me the fee I would be charged was 8%, I said "Are you kidding me?!" FYI - Merchants are only allowed to pass along a fee equal to that which they have to pay to the credit card company up to 4%. He said "Sorry we're closed now. I can't help you" and hung up on me. I would sooner walk anywhere than use this place. Rude people and illegal practices. They prey on guests because they're the only cab company in town. Avoid them at all costs. read more

I call the night before and setup a 745 pickup, quoted an insane $20 and hey no problem if you actually pick me up, BUT Im waiting at 745 for an 816 amtrack train to Chicago, the only one of the day and the guy never shows..... This was a ride from hell! On August 26 we were picked up at the Silver Beach hotel. We were quoted a price of $20 for the ride to our destination. After 1/2 hour wait, we were picked up (unmarked car) and as we drove away, the driver told us our fare would be $40. Then he told us that he could not take us to our destination and he was going to take us to his friend's house and she would take us the rest of the way. He brought us to a a neighborhood that made my wife very nervous. He dumped us for another fare! This guy should lose his business license. read more

Take a bus, ride a bike, walk or crawl - do anything necessary to avoid using the worst taxi company in the tri-state area. Was told 10-15 minutes for a pickup. After 30 minutes called and was told the driver was running late because his last fare didn't have enough money and needed to go get some. Was told to look for a town car. After 45 minutes the oldest surviving town car in America showed up, the driver with no shirt on and his girlfriend(?) riding shotgun and chowing down on a big plastic tub of what looked like potato salad. This car had NO suspension, stuffing coming out of the seat, and the driver was EXTREMELY high on something - a downer of some kind, I think. He did get us to downtown St. Joseph. We walked back. I called Friday after work to reserve a taxi for a ride home after a wedding downtown St. Joseph. Was told I would receive a courtesy call before pick up to verify. Did not receive one and when I called no one picked up all night. We had a child to get home to and this is unacceptable to me. There are never any Uber's available in our area and the one cab service available can't provide a decent service. How should members of this community get home safely if there is nothing available for us? Advanced cab will never get a call from me ever again and will refer it to no one. I suggest making car insurance cheaper for people who want to provide a taxi service in Berrien County, so that hard working people of this community have a safe ride home that can be counted on. read more

Called to see if they had a cab in my area and the guy that answered the phone was incredibly rude and said of course he had a cab available so long as I gave him my credit card number. I hadn't even given him our address or anything yet. I said I had to think about it (because I was nervous about giving him my cc number right off the bat like that and he said "better make it a quick minute" and abruptly hung up the phone. We decided to go to the bees and take advantage of the appetizer specials. Worked out pretty well, thanks to Advanced Cabs hour and a half wait time. My husband and I were on our way to Chicago when our battery got fried near Benton Harbour. Were able to tow car to the mechanic and get a hotel overnight. Next morning we got a rent a car from Avis but they don't do car drop-offs or pickups so we had to find a way to get to Avis which was 5 miles from our hotel. No Uber, no Lyft, no other means of public transport. Called 5-6 other cab companies but no good. Desperate, I called Advance Cab despite the awful reviews and I'm glad to say my experience was super. The guy who picked up was sweet. He told me he'd get to us in 20 minutes and would make sure to get us to Avis before they closed and they had a flat rate of $30. Maybe pricey but it felt like a miracle after all we were going through. The guy got to us within 10 minutes. The car was clean and he got us to Avis right on time! The worst customer service I've ever experienced. Ordered & paid for in advance 2 cabs to take 12 people to my friend's wedding reception, and home at night. The rude man I spoke to over phone TEXTED me literally 4 minutes before our scheduled ride to the venue, saying the rides are canceled/ he doesn't have enough cabs/ I will receive a refund. We were all late to the wedding reception but figured it out, and had trouble finding sporadic Ubers in St Joe's late that night to get home. 2 weeks later, I was still not reimbursed. After calling multiple times the same rude man said that he doesn't have enough money in his paypal account to pay me back. I called this guy every other day for 2 months requesting & then demanding my money back. Every time he would say he's in contact with Paypal, yet he would never call me to give this information even after I repeatedly asked him to do so. I would need to initiate the phone call & questioning. Scammer, unprofessional, childish, rude, lazy and slow horrible customer service. I finally refused the payment through my credit card company & they fought for me and got my money back. I hope this cab company goes under. read more
