Normally I don't experience this level of service at mechanical or auto shops. The waiting area was clean. I'd been looking for a pontoon boat that suits our needs for about a month with no luck. One dealer…read moresaid he rarely has what we were looking for in his inventory -- but he can get one for us in eight-ten weeks, or he can get us one that is way bigger than we need in two weeks. Another dealer says the smallest pontoon he sells is 24 feet long with a 110HP outboard at $50k -- quite a bit more boat that this retired couple needs. Then I saw that Arbor Vitae Marine listed several boats in our size range (16' to 18') and price range ($20K to $25K) on their web site inventory so my wife and I decided to stop in and take a look. An hour or so later we sealed the deal and our new pontoon was on the way to our lake. For us the buying experience at Arbor Vitae Marine was excellent. The owner showed us all the boats in their inventory that were in our price range and met our needs. She clearly explained the features and options and took plenty of time to make us feel like Arbor Vitae Marine really appreciated our interest in their boats and wanted our business. As a first time pontoon buyer I feared it might be worse than buying at new car in the 1970's, but shopping with them was like dealing with a neighbor. After we purchased the boat the mechanics at Arbor Vitae Marine set it up with the outboard we selected and the owners delivered it to our dock (they just happen to live on the same lake that we do) two days later. After a short tutorial we were on the water enjoying our first pontoon ride around the lake. Arbor Vitae Marine sells Avalon Pontoons (which I will review in another Yelp posting specific to the brand) but l have to say here that the fit and finish and the overall quality of the boat is worth a five star review. I would recommend that anyone in the market for a new pontoon stops in at Arbor Vitae Marine to take a good look the Avalon brand. We selected a 25HP Tohatsu outboard for our boat. For me this was a motor I was not familiar with but after reading a bunch of on-line reviews it seemed to be a quality machine at a good price and I had no hesitation in selecting it for our boat. (I'll review the outboard separately at a later time) We plan to continue working with Arbor Vitae Marine for "winterization," storage, and "summerization," and for any service needs that arise in the future. I will amend my review as necessary after such service is rendered -- but for now, my initial experience is five stars -- as good as it gets.

I have used HT Glass for multiple project over the past 30 years. One was a simple mirror install,…read moreanother was a glass shower install, another was a glass railing, and most recently they installed 3 doors and 8 windows for me. I cannot say enough good things about them. They are easy to work with. They do quality work. They do what they said they would do and when they get onsite they complete the work in a timely manner. The workers are very friendly and don't mind you watch. The backup the projects the install as one of the doors I received looked like someone tried to take sandpaper to it and now it is being replaced with a different door. I only wish I could use them on more projects but they only do so much. They are also very helpful, they listen to your ideas, and make good logical design decisions. If you are thinking about using them, don't hesitate they are the best in the northwoods at what they do. The only complaint I have is their lead times on some projects. Of course I want it done now, not a month from now or more. But I get it they have to order and get parts as well and have other jobs to do.

Our experience purchasing a sliding glass door was expensive and frustratingly slow. We did…read morefinally get a very solid, locally crafted Park Vue door, but it was 2-3x the cost of something good from a big box store. The overall rating, however, is based on factors other than price. Much of The slowness came from assorted delays in placing the order by HT, before any manufacturing delays. They wouldn't place the order before receiving payment but couldn't seem to provide a quote in any timely manner that we could pay. Then, once finally paid, they seemed to sit on the order before finally placing it. Later, we realized that several options that we would have liked were never discussed (e.g, secondary lock in the track). We also dodged a bullet when confirming the dimensions for the Rough Opening. The Park Vue website had incorrect dimensions, so here I must credit HT for finding the correct RO dimensions so that we didn't cut the wrong size hole in the side of the house and install a header that didn't fit. Thanks, Shannon! After gentle inquiries and then enough badgering, we finally got an anticipated delivery date, but then we had to haggle over delivery costs, despite the quote explicitly stating that delivery was included in the cost. With the snow coming and managing the project from a distance, we didn't need the headaches. Of course, we requested an on-site inspection and quote for installation, handled by a neighbor who generously agreed to help out. She later said the man assessing the project seemed entirely disinterested, and we never received an installation quote from HT. Fortunately, we had a good installer waiting in the wings. Installation was not trivial because the Park Vue door arrived as a kit, where the frame required significant assembly. Eventually, we had a very nice door functioning well just before the Northwoods winter gets serious. But ever since initiating things in summer, we suffered many headaches dealing with HT. Whenever there was an issue, we were told an owner would call us back, but calls never came. So all the follow up constantly fell to us. Shannon was at times very helpful, but you always got the sense she was constrained by complacent owners and thus often couldn't provide information or solve problems.
