S & S Auto Repair

My 19 year old son spent 3 days outside in the cold trying to fix his own car. He's gifted in this…read moreway and has always loved cars. He has a strong work ethic and he wanted to do it himself. He was excited to take the challenge and learn along the way. The job reached a point where it required tools that we do not have. He knew he needed help so he called our local shop, S&S. We wanted to support an independent, small business in our town. The Owner showed up with a flatbed while my son was still bolting the wheel on. The Owner climbed under the front wheel without being asked, to bolt the tie rod back on. It seemed like good customer service at the time. He took the car and we waited for a call with an estimate. The call never came. The next day they called my son to tell him his car was done, and handed him a bill for $646.10. The Owner charged my son $175 to tow his car 2 blocks to his own shop where they did the work without first discussing with my son what it would cost. My son bought all the parts, they were in the car. My son did 90% of the tear down, with the right tools, which I assume they have, it would have been a 2 hour task at most to install the new axle in and put it all back together. They charged $100 hr, and insisted it took them 4 hours. When I questioned the desk attendant, he told us the owner told him he had to crawl under my son's car and do all kinds of work just to get it on the tow truck. He tightened a bolt. It was 2 minutes of his time, and no one asked him to do it. This is about character. If they're willing to take advantage of a 19 year old young man, how do you think they will treat you, your son, your daughter or your wife?

Have had 2 vehicles serviced here. First was last year. Was so impressed with the knowledge and…read moreservices that I brought back a new purchase for my Son that came in a disaster. Jim the Shop owner and the Master Mechanic Steve have turned this classic truck that was beat to the ground by previous owner back to life. They have bent over back words to make sure since there is no history and parts were all wrong on it to meticulously research what this vehicle needed to get it back to top running condition. Steve called several times to keep me updated on progress and have me come in to see what was done wrong and how he was going to get it right. The time they have taken to get this back up and running and SAFE for my son is outstanding customer satisfaction. There is nothing they don't do at this shop and I know when issues come about with the truck being 40 plus years old I'll be calling Jim to get Steve to fix it. I am very pleased there are still small businesses that are honest, reliable and offer the high standards of what customers like myself are looking for. This job could never have been done at a Ford dealership, some basics maybe but not the time and knowledge Steve and Jim put into Classics. By the way the first vehicle wasn't a classic newer Jeep and I was just as pleased. So it's a go to for any vehicle that you want top notch service and a Owner and Mechanic to make you feel welcome and appreciate your business. 5 star highly recommended by a very picky customer that is hard to satisfy.

I own a 2004 GMC Envoy and several years ago it suffered a cracked exhaust manifold. gasket…read more Because i was in Sandusky I originally contacted the local Buick and they indicated that they could repair it and would only take a couple of days to complete so I drove it over. . Over next few days the dealer broke several bolts and resulted in higher repair cost. After several rounds of this I had the vehicle towed to Motorheads. Jim discussed the alternatives and provided me with a reasonable estimate for the repair. I was completely satisfied with the work performed and will take it back to Motorhead for an engine rebuild. In sum Motoheads know what they're doing and stand behind their work.
