One staff member briefly came out when the phone rang, saw us waiting, and just went back inside without asking us to sit or take our order. That part of the service was honestly quite disappointing. That said, the food completely turned things around for me on our second visit. I'm vegetarian, and their vegetarian combo was amazing. The injera was especially impressive--no overly sour aftertaste like I've had at many other Ethiopian restaurants. Every side dish was flavorful and honestly mouth-watering. I really like a good balanced, healthy meal with protein and greens, and this combo had everything I was hoping for. On our second visit, the host was at least warm and attentive, which made a big difference in the experience. Also worth mentioning--they have great deals on Mondays and Tuesdays. In today's economy, that definitely makes it more likely I'll be coming back. Overall, amazing food. Service just needs a bit more consistency.

Honestly, this meal was super filling since all the veggie side dishes also sit on a giant injera I liked the mild spice of the lamb as well as the spinach and lentil side dishes (the cabbage one was just ok). Overall a very interactive and filling meal and I might be back to try their tartare next!

We dined in, sitting on their patio, and got the vegetable platter for 2 ($12.50 plus tax per person). You get a really nice plate of 5 different dishes--the standard Ethiopian dishes. I'd say this ranks up there among the best Ethiopian places in Vancouver -- it's just more no frills in terms of the atmosphere and whatnot. I'd return, but perhaps do takeout. Recommended.

She finally answered and said she was sorry and that the food would now be delivered in an hour. The food showed up at 9:48. More than 2 hours. By far, this is the worst food I have ever spent my money on. I had to throw it away, it was that bad. I felt so abused and disappointed, I drove out, texted over and over again. Then the food tasted nothing like jollof rice. I just feel scammed and quite honestly disappointed and frankly disrespected. The experience couldn't have been worse, but the food was even worse. I will never patronize this business again and if you do, for whatever reason, you will be wasting your money.

The building is quite new and modern, and so is this place. Some nice decorations such as figurines and tapestries on the wall. Staff were very friendly and helpful. No complaints. There was an older gentleman who chatted with us a bit and answered our questions. Pretty sure he was the head chef/owner. Buddy and I were unsure what to have, so the waiter recommended the chef's platter (Mchaguzi wa Chef). This platter includes samaki bites (fried tilapia), kuku choma (BBQ marinated chicken), kebabs (minced lamb), and mishkaki (skewers of beef). Served with a pile of rice underneath and a pile of salad. There was also some naan and a bowl of spinach machica (mashed spinach cooked in curry sauce). There was also a plate with small containers of yogurt, tamarind sauce, and shredded coconut. Rather interesting combo. Everything was very tasty, though my buddy was convinced the deep fried tilapia was the frozen supermarket variety. No idea if this is true. The other thing that was special here is they sold Tusker beer which is from Kenya. Never seen it anywhere before, so it was definitely interesting to try. The bottles are 500mL too. Food was definitely on the pricer side, but my buddy and I did leave satisfied. Not sure if I'd eat here regularly, but I wouldn't mind coming back. The food was delicious.

We dropped in on a Friday evening (at 8:00pm). The inside is spacious and the tables are well spread out. Our waiter was one of the chef/owners, who is one of those individuals that goes out and chats/sits down with customers. The menu consists of appetizers, chef's specials (no daily special available when we inquired), entrees (meat, rice, vegetarian, curry) and desserts. Entrees range from $15.00 to $30.00. - Chutneys - yogurt, coconut, tamarind, hot sauce and mango. We were originally given a second hot sauce but the owner came by our table, told us it was "too spicy" and took it away. Strange. We didn't get to taste that one but the mango chutney was fantastic (a punch in the face, with a slightly mango note at the end). - Rice ($5.00) - good enough to compliment our two other entrees. - Naan ($3.00) - plain and a touch dense. - Kuku choma ($20.00) - decent char on the chicken, but slightly overcooked and dry. Needed the sauces and chutneys to give it some flavour. - Paka ($18.00) - tilapia was overcooked. Curry was very light in flavour. Wouldn't get this again. - Machicha masala ($18.00) - best dish of the night. 5 good sized prawns that were cooked perfectly. Spinach was a touch bland but liked that it was hearty and chunky. Not many African places in town. An okay first meal at SG.

The fufu with peanut soup was a vegetarian dish and besides having a nice aroma, the taste was just as top tier. The pounded yam with egusi was my favorite as you really can't beat how fresh and delicious this was. The jollef rice could have been a little less wet, but I'm not an expert in this field. I still enjoy it, but slightly drier would have been my preference. The honey jerk chicken was juicy and tender. It was full of flavor and the sweetness balanced the savory well. The soup is lighter than the stew and not as spicy. It's flavorful and comforting. The Fufu was a more yellow color and I believe it was made with corn. This is only available on the weekends. Waakye with Grilled Chicken: This is a Ghanaian dish cooked rice and beans. It came with 1 boiled egg and a small bit of noodles.I wanted more chicken since it only had one drum.
