Vegetarian platter plus lamb plus dorowat

We ordered vegetarian platter, lamb and dorowat, so delicious. It's very quite during the week here so the chef/owner was super welcoming and nice. My friend found the injera too sour for their taste but I love it.

Wow. I had never tried Ethiopian food before and I was not disappointed! This adorable mom and pops place had great friendly service, and everything I ate was so tasty. We did wait about an hour for our food, but we didn't mind because we weren't starving and we knew it would be fresh just for us! The lamb was incredible, just amazing. It was all really flavourful and tasty with out having to be spicy if you know what I mean. Just up the street from me, I will definitely be back!

A friend of a friend suggested this place after I commented on a food page that I could not find an Ethiopian spot that had genuine (re: gluten-free) injera. Genuine injera is made from teff flour, which contains no gluten. Many spots add barley or wheat flour to theirs. I called the restaurant several days ahead to let them know I would be patronizing with a friend and requested gluten-free injera. The man who answered was friendly and agreed to do so. Upon our arrival, I told the owner that I was the person who called in for gluten free. He was very friendly and acknowledged by request. My friend and I sat down to order and agreed on a vegetarian stew plus a lamb one. Our food arrived and we dug in. The lamb tidbits were beyond delicious, perfectly seasoned and tender tidbits. The vegetarian parts were in separate piles: chickpeas here, collard greens there, corn over here, green beans and carrots right over there and cabbage across there. Yummy! It did not seem like a lot of food from what I first saw but, between my friend and me, it was a lot. We ripped off injera pieces and kept picking up morsels. We even attacked the injera 'platter' holding the wots (the best part). I'm not the person who likes to take home leftovers, so we did our best to finish it all off. We almost did! Great food and service. We left full for hours afterwards! The food was a great value for the money...total cost before tipping was around $22 and they did not charge extra for the gluten-free injera. Loved it!

Went for Birthday celebration. Very clean, the dishes are very filling and food is delicious. The owner/chef was very friendly and showed us how to eat. Bread was delicious! Definitely a place to come back! Vegetarian dishes very tasty and filling. Injera (bread) was made of teff flour only and owner even told us how she makes it. Special lamb was very tasty.

When I went…read moreinside, there were people smoking hukas and whatnot, and I was asked whether I was there to smoke or to eat. They do both Mediterranean and Ethiopian cuisines, and I came here for the Ethiopian -- they had a veggie combo ($18 plus tax) which what I came for. The food came out in less than 5 minutes -- I guess the dishes are all prepared in advance. The platter came with misir wot (red lentils), yellow lentils, shiro (smoked chickpea), and a yellow cabbage dish, with a green salad and 3 extra pieces of injera. First, props to the salad -- so many Ethiopian places give you a lame green salad with iceberg lettuce; this had some nice leafy greens with cucumber and tomato, and a very nice tangy dressing. All 4 of the hot dishes were excellent, especially the misir wot and yellow lentils. Huge portions, which makes the rather steep price ($18) worth it (this is higher than any veggie combo at any other Ethiopian places in Vancouver). To round it off, the service was excellent -- the young woman serving me was very friendly, helpful and quick. This is now one of my top spots for Ethiopian in Greater Van. Very much recommended.

The injera bread was moist, bubbly, and airy and paired excellently with the spiced vegetables. The variety of flavours and textures included with the veggie combo was awesome and allowed me to continue switching up the flavours in my mouth. Loved the generous portion size allowing you to eat to full satisfaction and beyond. It was a veggie feast with a nice kick and made you feel good after eating it!

Have you ever had Ethiopian food before?…read more Nope, neither have I. I was hanging out with a friend from across town & I wanted to try dinner at another restaurant further up on Commercial Dr. So we decided on drinks here first at Harambe Ethiopian Restaurant, while we waited for our standby reservation to come through at the other restaurant. My friend had been here before & highly recommended we come back again to eat. I got to try Ethiopian Honey Wine for the first time. It was refreshingly delicious. Sat at the bar & chilled. Saw various dishes coming out of the kitchen & the look & smell were causing my stomach to growl. Got to meet the owner Daniel - a very nice gentleman. He has been running this restaurant now for over 25 years. He expressed that times are hard, as noted by all the restaurant closures all over Metro Vancouver. But he's hanging in there so if you want to try Ethiopian food - consider Harembe & support local. Look out for more food pictures sometime in the later part Spring when I return.

I got the chef's choice combination and my friend got the veggie lovers combination. The food arrived relatively promptly and it was presented as a nice spread. Eating with our hands was a neat experience to enjoy the food the traditional way. The server told me to mix all the ingredients together but I wanted to taste each item first. Perhaps mixing it all would have been better as there were a couple items I found their taste to be a bit strong on their own. Personally I also found it on the oily side. The injera was great at soaking it all up but I was unable to finish the injera that was served at the bottom of all the ingredients at the end, with all the oil that was there. Overall it was a great experience and if I were to return, I would skip the combo and order a dish I liked.

There was some nice wall decor around the restaurant and it had a cozy feel. If you are 4 and hungry, I would recommend getting one additional dish. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food, and it was quite good. We came during the holiday season, so there was one person womanning the whole restaurant. The music was Ethiopian, which was nice ! The "crepe" (called Anjera I believe) is fermented, meaning that, if you were expecting a sweet crepe-like flavour, you will be surprised because it's quite sour. The combo came with extra Anjera on the side. Beef Key Wats: I quite liked it. Not super "stew"-like in my opinion (more like grilled if that makes sense?), but also not dry. Lamb and Chicken Awaze Tibs: reminiscent of a curry of sorts? More stew-like. Quite spiced/flavourful. Bell-pepper presence. Gojo Veggie Combo: the veggies were also quite flavourful and varried. Included was cabbage, spinach, green beans, lentils. Y'all I am embarrassed to say that it was SPICY for me (but also my capsaicin tolerance is non-existent). Overall, the meats were moist, tender, and flavourful.
