Adorable pets is an amazing vet! My cat ate a poisonous Lilly plant, and they took me immediately on a Sunday. The took EVERY step to make sure for the 4 days I had brought him there they had a plan. And they talked me through every step even though I was in tears. They saved my best friend. They treated my cat with the best care that could be provided. And were honest and open with me about the treatment. I cannot say enough about Adorable Pets, Dr. Bernie was amazing! Even though my cat was not cooperative she helped him to keep him from dying. Great first visit, not so wonderful second visit. My husband and I took time off from work to take both dogs to the vet today and was told by Dr. Bernie she would only have time to address one dog at time since she only has 1/2 hour scheduled and said I already took up most of that time. Going back to the day before, Sunday. I received a voicemail while I was at a motorcycle race, out of state, for my son. I did not listen to the message until later that night and it was confirming my dogs appt. for the next day and she explained that one dog will see the tech and the other dog, the vet. Since it was after hours when I listened to the message, I could not return the call to let them know that BOTH dogs needed to see the vet, as I mentioned to the front desk when I made the appointment weeks in advance. The next day, the day of the appointment, I had to work before the vet opened making it impossible for me to call ahead of my visit. When I arrived with both dogs, I explained to the front desk that I'd like the Dr. to also take a peek at my dogs ears and to re-check her hips as well as to discuss if she needed the vaccine she was "due " for. The girls made it sound like it would not be a problem and that the Dr. would be able to make it happen. However, when the Dr. walked in, I began to speak and she stopped me mid sentence to let me know she was only addressing 1 dog and proceeded to tell me I should've called after receiving the message for the visit. I tried to explain that I could not call since the message was 1 day ago, but she continued to tell me I took up most of the appt. time already. She said she sensed I was upset and she's right! Dr Bernie and staff are amazing. I have English Bulldogs and they aren't easy to care for. Dr Bernie is by far the best vet in the area. She knows her stuff and doesn't pull any punches. I had a really shocking experience at this practice today and would like to caution all local pet owners before patronizing this business. My cat had recently seen another local vet (not open on weekends) and was being treated for UTI symptoms, which were not clearing up. Adorable pets made me wait over an hour past our appointment time to actually come up with a plan for how to examine my cat. They told me she would be ready in an hour, and two hours later, left a voicemail that she was ready. My initial estimate for her care was in the high $300 range, which I signed a paper agreeing to. However, when it came time to pay the bill, it was significantly over $500, which I had not agreed upon or budgeted for. Upon explaining this to me, the veterinarian became defensive and hostile. She was aggressive, curt, and turned on her heel as she stated, "I'm sorry you didn't appreciate the VALUE of the services I provided." This statement was absolutely untrue. I love my pet and would pay any cost for high quality care. HOWEVER, I feel that the inattentiveness of the staff to this matter was absurdly unprofessional and truthfully, unkind and untrustworthy. My family is a military family....and a $75 dollar difference is one that we would need to budget for and carefully consider, especially when another local vet had already treated and ruled out what this additional test was covering. A simple phone call explaining the procedure, instead of an unexplained surprise at checkout, which was inconclusive, by the way, could have gone a long way. read more

Very upset, I have a pit bull boxer lab mix that is skittish around new people and was told today that the lead vet was too scared to attempt a simple procedure while I was in the room with him and holding him, he never once growled or did anything to be aggressive towards her. Finally...a vet who I can have faith in. After going to several area vets where I felt pressured to spend money on tests and expensive prescription diets that don't work, I found Adorable Pets to be a Godsend. Their brand new facility on 154 (not far from the East Haddam Swing Bridge) just opened in January of this year. I love Dr Bernie and her staff. She comes with a stellar rep having worked at the highly regarded Chester vet. The Adorable Pets staff all take care of my precious cats as if they were their own, taking plenty of time to be sure that my babies had the least stressful experience possible. When one of my cats developed coughing fits which other vets were unable to diagnose Dr Bernie saved the day. She explained in clear language what she saw as the possible prognoses and what various treatment options we had. I never felt pressured to spend money on unnecessary procedures...it was always my choice. She made it clear what my expectations should be and let me decide if I should spring for tests that may or may not be conclusive. I opted to have x-rays done and was glad I did because they showed that my cat does have asthma (not worms, food allergies or hairballs as other vets had concluded). One shot of steroids and my baby was feeling good again. She has not coughed once since I brought her home almost two weeks ago. Dr Bernie's costs are very reasonable and her approach is pragmatic. She and her staff will do everything they can to take a proactive approach to animal welfare. They also fill a void that was left by the late mobile vet and they make house calls. With three cats all needing shots and check ups, the fee of $50 was more than fair when it meant reducing the stress (both mine and theirs) of caging and traveling with them all. They also have Feline Fridays to reduce the stress of potential canine encounters for our furry friends. I can't say enough about them and highly recommend Adorable Pets. read more

Best vet I've ever been to. We take our 2 dogs and 1 elderly cat here. Polite people, clean accessible building, and fantastic availability. They are honest pet lovers with a wealth of knowledge to share. I highly suggest using them if you are in the East Haddam / Old Saybrook / Middletown, CT area. read more

Brought puppy in for exam. I told her I wanted him tested for Giardia and coccidia. I also told her during the exam that he was dragging his butt and itching a lot. The next day when his fecal came back negative I inquired why he was still dragging his butt and itching they informed me I could come back for another appointment and pay another exam fee ($69). I told them why would I have to come back and pay another fee when it should've been taken care of at the first visit that was two days ago. Dr. Bernie ended up calling the next day and said since she couldn't meet my needs she will no longer provide me any services. Before I could say anything, she immediately hung up on me. I am extremely disgusted by her actions and would caution anyone who wants an advocate as their vet to go elsewhere. She clearly is just greedy and doesn't care about her patients. read more

Dr. Bernie and her staff are the best! Dr. Bernie takes the time to really learn about your pet...and you! The facility is top notch, the list of services extensive, her hours are great and I truly believe they have the best interest of our pets as their core value, not the financial bottom line. Dr. Bernie offers both conventional/western medical treatments as well as eastern/holistic options. She was the only vet who was able to get one of our dogs who suffered from severe allergies to a place where he was comfortable and happy - and she did it without pushing meds. This place maybe be OK as long as your pet does not require any actual care, just routine check-ups and vaccinations. If you need anything else DO NOT COME HERE!! My dog has been fighting an ear infection for the past 5 months; the doctor here keep giving her various antibiotics, none of them which worked. We finally got fed up and went directly to Pieper Memorial Hospital where the doctors where shocked by the condition of the dog's ear and wondered why the veterinarian at Adorable Pets did not refer her out or at least do a culture in a laboratory before trying blindly so many different antibiotics. My dog now is scheduled for CT scan and ear surgery next week. All of these could have been avoided if Dr Bernie Aleksey would have known her business. read more
