Having been a steady client of Chester Veterinary Clinic for over 10 years one has observed a steady decline in the care provided along with an abnormally high veterinarian turnover in recent years. But was horrified with my past visit and feel it's my obligation to communicate this experience. The attending veterinarian failed to carry out the most basic and prescribed exam functions during my feline's annual visit. This included failure to take the cat's temperature, doing a through examination of his teeth or even checking his ears or fur coat for the presence of mites. The only handling done was an abdominal and kidney check which lasted approximately 1 minute. All other wellness checks previously described were omitted which were always performed in the past by other veterinarians at this business. The only questions concerning my pet's overall condition, health and habits were what type of food he consumes, with only a single note being taken by the veterinarian during the visit which lasted hardly 5 minutes. I communicated this experience to Chester Veterinary Clinic owners in a letter, never even receiving a phone call or written reply concerning this visit which demonstrates their disregard concerning any customer dissatisfaction or feedback. Chester Veterinary Clinic was once a premiere place with fantastic veterinarians that provided a caring and competent environment, but sadly has digressed into a sub-standard level of care place to take your pet. Not like it was when it was privately owned practice. We left Chester Vet not long after Dr. Ficke left. Dr. Flower retired due to health issues many years ago. A long time tech was let go, the best receptionist left, not the friendly little family practice it was. We used to be a name, then we became just a number. read more

stay away from this place here is a list why my pomeranian went in for a toot cleaning. died a week later from congestive hart failure form a screw up with anesthesia. my cocker came down with what they call cancer which they did not know what type. they gave me his last rights and condolences. its now almost 3 years later his is 16 now and i call because he is dieing and the tell me they will not see any of my pets because i was rude in december when i called because my lab got caught in a fence and needed a stitch or two. would have taken 10 min's. thanks kathy they told me this after using them for over 40 years yes 1980 they were to busy for a emergency what good are they. they advertise emergency service. i gess that means emergency at there convenience. is is a shame dr. fickey was the best. find another vet. there got to be a better more competent vet some where read more

This Vet clinic has deteriorated dramatically over the past several years. I have used Chester Vet for 25+ years. It was bought out by a corporation roughly 5-6 years ago. Now there is constant Vet turnover, the cost of services have soared and they have partnered with an online Vet pharmacy that is inept at best. They get kick backs from this partnership. Chester Vet steered a recent prescription for my dog to this pharmacy- Vetcove. Somehow an expensive prescription, which I had decided to discontinue since it was not helping my dog, got stuck in an every two week Autoship mode while I was away on vacation. I came home to a pile of unopened meds on my counter. When I asked to ship the meds back and be refunded, the pharmacy refused and told me to talk to Chester Vet. Their off site manager was not helpful. After sending the last package back "refused" by the post office and alerting American Express, they agreed to refund one of the packages. I still have two though and am out an extra $310. Worst customer service. Do yourself a favor, do not agree to using their online pharmacy. read more

I changed from our vet in Norwich (because I had the feeling they were just there to make money) My dachshund is getting older and I just want a trustworthy caring vet who looks after her. Well I did! Very happy with the personal attention and loving care. read more

Dr Flowers is the best general practice veterinarian I have ever met. She is honest, fair, and very knowledgable. You can't go wrong. We have tried other practice closer to home and have gone back because of the service and care our pets have revived here over the past twenty years. I know that it is hard when losing a part of your family and suspect that many reviews may be written with a broken heart and not from a clear mind. I have taken my pets to Chester vet for about 20 years and would not go anywhere else. When I lived farther away, I just made the trek to Chester and it was so worth it. From birth to death of my pets, they were there for us, giving us great advice with loving compassion for our dogs and cats with diabetes care and how to use a glucometer, dietary advice, and end of life care for our animals. read more

Dr Peese's compassion and sensitivity eased my pain after making the decision to put my ferret to sleep. She took the time to explain the process and assure me he wouldn't feel any pain. I absolutely love Chester Veterinary Clinic! Not only are they amazing with my younger dogs and cats but they have been wonderful with my older more "needy" pets. I have an older dog that has seizures and a diabetic older cat. (I've even brought in my daughter's bunny!!) The care that my pets have received is by far the best that I have experienced and I have tried a couple of different practices along the Shoreline over the years. One doctor put my 12 y.o. Golden through a week long series of seriously painful injections, assuring my this would cure my dog's "bladder infection." When I had to have her euthanized there a week later, one of the other doctor's informed me that my girl in fact had been suffering from kidney failure. While not curable, a simple test would have diagnosed the real issue, and at least we could have made her end of life comfortable, rather than what resulted, which was her being unable to move, and having to lay in her own urine and vomit. In fairness I do recommend Dr. Ficke and Dr. Peese, who are extremely knowledgeable and thorough. read more

Best place to bring your pet! I moved out of town and still come here to see Dr. Ficky. All the people who work there are great. They never try to over sell and rip you off. They genuinely care about every pet and person who comes in. And all the doctors actually know what they are talking about. I recently brought my very ill and aging dog here. After discovering that her kidneys were failing, I decided not to do the recommended IV treatment due to her advanced age. I feel she is too old to torture her away from her family with a week long IV treatment that may or may not even help. I picked up some antibiotics for a UTI and specifically asked if there were any dietary changes I could make that would be easier on her kidneys, and I was told "no". My heart kept telling me to just google it and a quick search resulted in very specific (and simple!) changes I could make that would not only make her feel better but could prolong her life. I am well aware that I cannot "fix" her kidneys, but I can't understand why they wouldn't suggest something that would at least make her feel better. read more

This is the most professional and thorough veterinary facility I have ever had the pleasure to discover. I have been - (and will continue to be) - a client since 1981. The most pleasant staff and the best of the best of care for cats and dogs alike. They have cared for over 19 of my dogs and probably over a dozen cats - if you count the rescues' I've brought to them.
