Our babies pull us to the door and get excited when they get there. It's always an uneasy feeling to leave your fur babies behind when you go out of town, but Camp Bow Wow puts my mind at ease. My ex husband and I took our sick cat to see Dr. Henke and we were told they needed to keep the cat overnight and give it fluids. There was no discussion of money or an estimate provided at this time. The next day, they called me and I went back to get the cat and was told it was going to be like $360 since they kept it overnight and gave it fluids. I was shocked at this cost, and incredibly embarrassed because I did not have that kind of money at the time. I asked about making payments, and Dr. Henke said I had to pay in full or they would keep my cat. I told him I didn't expect it to be so much money, and in response he yelled, "well I didn't expect to get stiffed today!!" I was mortified- this was in the lobby with other customers and staff present. I called my mom and she was able to bring a check later that day so I could come back and get the car. Dr. Henke made me feel like I was completely worthless and it was completely uncalled for- I always planned to pay. Hopefully their current process includes discussing cost up front so people are aware. I would never recommend this vet- he may have skills in his field but he is a bad person to humiliate someone intentionally. Staff offered apologies for him when he stormed off, indicating that they had seen this behavior before.

We had to put our 14 year old dog, Bruiser, down. Needless to say we were attached to him…read more He was struggling to breathe, had difficulty standing to go to the bathroom, to find his water, etc. We had water in every corner of the house for him since he had difficulty walking. We brought him water when he was lying down. He was miserable. We called Riverside Animal Hospital told them his condition and they saw us that morning. We were not regular customers. We had just moved to Macon. Our daughter had taken her dogs there. So we were sure they were good doctors and chose them. They were compassionate, kind, gentle with Bruiser and discussed everything before we proceeded. They examined Bruiser and came to the same conclusion we had. When they handled him they were very gentle with him. After he passed they prepared him for burial. We wanted to take him and bury him next to his sister. Who we had lost a year before. She had died lying in the bed with us. Bruiser missed her. As did we. If you are in search of compassionate, knowledgeable, professional veterinarians choose Riverside Animal Hospital. We would highly recommend them. The facility is clean and the vets are top notch.
