I'm happy to report a delightful, 100% satisfying experience with Ken and Adobe Self Storage. I just moved to Wonder Valley from Oakland, CA, and spoke with Ken by phone about 2 months before I actually moved to the area. I found him to be exceptionally helpful and not at all pushy (as some sales people are prone to be.) In the initial conversation we talked about what I needed, and I requested a 10x10 unit. In the city, I'm not used to doing business on a man's word, so when Ken assured me that he would reserve a unit for me I insisted on sending him a check to hold it. A few weeks later I realized that I would need a larger unit and phoned Ken to inquire about it. I was assured it was no problem at all! I found his phone presence to be very candid, reassuring and down to earth. About a week before the move, Ken phoned me to let me know what units he had available and ask what my preference was as far as the location of the unit. (So thoughtful!!) He was very honest about the blowing sand in the Twentynine Palms area, and mentioned that he had a unit that was on the inside of the building (down a corridor), which would accumulate less sand. I preferred a unit that I could drive up to, even if it meant more sand. I really appreciated his full disclosure and attentiveness in letting me know about that. A few days before the actual move south, I realized that we were going to need more help unloading the van. I phoned Ken to see if he could recommend someone. He was, again, very helpful and told me the local rates for moving help and offered to make a phone call for me to see if the young man that worked for him occasionally was available on the day I needed him. Fortunately, he was, and I was able to hire him for 2 hours. I was all set for the big move.... Happy to say the drive south was uneventful, and I met Ken at Adobe at 7:30 am the next morning. We did the paperwork (very quick and clear) and went to the unit. The young man that Ken recommended arrived right on time (very nice young man), and the whole van was unloaded and the storage unit locked by 9:30 am. Yay!! A happy girl am I! I should mention that back in May when I was researching a storage facility, I read the reviews on Yelp about Adobe Self Storage, including the single negative review, and the 3-4 positive reviews, which have since been deleted from Yelp for some reason. (Hey Yelp - why were all the positive reviews deleted??) To be honest, when I read the single negative review, I had the sense that the author had quite an emotional charge as they were writing the review, which came across as a bit of a vendetta, IMO. Speaking for myself, this type of emotionality undermines the content, and inspires me to not have a lot of faith in the author's opinion. So, based on the other 3-4 very positive reviews (that were posted on Yelp in May, 2013) I elected to phone and talk with Ken. I am very happy that I did. He has been very helpful, very clear and fourthright, and runs his business in a way that inspires me to trust him and feel confident about leaving my belongings in his storage unit. Adobe Self Storage is the best place in town! Its clean, well maintained, secure, safe and friendly. I have used the storage units here for the last 8 years. I have used 3 different sizes that all worked for me for over 6 months at a time. I have stored personal items, furniture and even my truck. I left my truck for 8 months and all I had to do was take the battery out and once i got back i put the battery back in and had my truck for immediate use. My truck was a little dusty but other than that it was just the way I left it. Great security around the storage units which is tall walls as well as tall fences some sides with barbed wire. The owner and another employee are very aware of who comes in or out of the storage place. I have been called to see if certain people were allowed to be at my storage just to ensure it was me who sent them. I have been deployed many times and have used them every time for periods ranging from 6-8 months. They make it easy for me to pay by letting me leave post dated checks with them. I never had any issue with payments or with leaving personal checks with them. I also still have the same lock i bought from them back in 2005. I have referred many friends here and they are happy and continue to use the place. The owner himself is very friendly and has always gone the extra mile for me or friends whenever he was able too. During the holidays the owner gave me sees candy for christmas, which no other place would have ever done. They have had great discount deals here and there on top of their already affordable units that vary in many sizes. I will not use any other storage place in the area and I will continue to recommend this place to friends. No questions or doubts about this place being number 1 in or around the area. I have never had a better experience with a storage facility! I had no idea what to expect from 29 Palms when I drove into town. I arrived shortly after lunch during the middle of summer. Adobe Self Storage was the first facility I saw and decided to check it out. It was clean, the manager (Ken) was very courteous and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. Although Ken didn't have a rental unit small enough for my needs, I decided to rent from him anyway due to the curb appeal, great customer service, and convenience. After I found a permanent place to live, I grabbed my belongings and thanked Ken, not thinking I would ever need another storage unit while stationed here. Well, about two years later, I did need another storage unit, and Adobe Self Storage was the only option, in my mind. During those two years I checked out other facilities, but none were as convenient or well designed as Ken's. His business is located along a very wide side road, and the facility is designed with good drainage, so there is little chance of water getting into the units during heavy rains or flash floods. Ken is a great owner. He remembered me when I returned for a second time and I was offered a great discount for 9 months. He explained the contract and answered any questions. He knows my name and unit number, and we usually chitchat for 5-10 minutes when I show up every month. I don't know if there is a better price in town, but I wouldn't go anywhere else. When my hubby and I bought property in 29 Palms 8+ years ago, we were in need of a storage facility that we had immediate access to.. My hubby and I have had an association with Ken for 8+ years. We are friends, but do not expect nor receive special treatment. We knew that our stuff would get dusty living in such an environment and we were good with that. If we are to be late with a payment, we get a penalty and we are ok with that too. It has happened a couple of times because we are in transition and not out of Orange County yet.. Business is business. My hubby having been in business for himself for 15+ years understands thatno matter how hard you try, you can never please everyone. Over the years, we have found Ken to be helpful, supportive, and understanding when our rerequirements for storage space has increased. We were explained the rules and terms upfront and abide by them. Anyone who runs a business will always have posted hours. It is no different than driving to a local store and you get there at or past posted closing hours. We would recommend Adobe to anyone in need of storage. It is clean, well-maintained and pretty secure. If someone REALLY wants to climb over a fence and try to break into a padlocked storage unit, i guess they will try. I just moved to the desert with all my worldly possessions and while the moving company I used offered storage, I don't know how long it would be until I got the house I can call home. Did some digging and found this place. Right in town, prices not that bad (the costs of some of the places in LA... Phew!) and the guy who took care of me was nice and welcomed me to the area. I didn't get one of the huge units, but can testify that the little unit I got did the job. a pile of boxes and my second couch (when did I get a second one? I must have been living like a Queen in LA...), and the man even had a spare tarp he lent me to cover the couch up. See that's good customer service. I accompanied a friend of mine to her storage unit at this facility not too long ago and I just had to post a review and say thanks to James because of this young man for all his help. He was the most kind, considerate and helpful person in that place. I noticed that he looked after all the units as if they were storing his own possessions, and you just don't see that kind of customer service out of people anymore. Dean, however, could use a personality transplant. I'm no proctologist but I know an a****** when I see one. I have had a storage unit at Adobe Storage for the past 11 years, and I have never had any problems. In fact, quite the opposite. The owner, Ken, has always gone above and beyond his job description to accommodate me and my family. I would (and have) recommended this storage facility many times over. My belongings are well secure, safe and protected, hence the office hours being enforced. I strongly disagree with "Susan P" and feel that Adobe Storage is highly appreciated by it's MANY clientele. I have used Adobe Self Storage for about 2 years and have never had a problem. In fact the staff is always extremely nice and helpful.
