One of the WORST experiences in recent memory. We waited more than 30 minutes for our drinks to show up. The food took over 90 minutes to arrive and then was cold. It would have been pretty good it'll it was the proper temperature. The power went out while we were waiting. Not their fault. Can't predict that. My blood sugar was dropping badly and I needed something to eat right away so we ordered chips and queso. The waitress told us, "No, our computers are down. So I can't key in any orders. We recommend trying the following: -Coca Cola Meatloaf, sliced and grilled meatloaf served with mashed potatoes, grilled zucchini, brown gravy & BBQ drizzle. -Pan-Seared Crushed Lemon Verlasso Salmon with green beans, crispy artichoke hearts, rice and lemon jalapeno cream sauce. -New Mexico Gyro-Ancho, marinated beef tips, warm pita bread, roasted peppers & onions, sour cream, & cilantro served with a fresh salad. -Classic Margarita so delicious we had many!! We were stopping through Artesia and saw this recommended quite a few times as a great place to eat. It's attached to a hotel and has such a cute vibe. The evening was chilly but we still elected to sit on their lovely patio and they had a fire pit going. I was in the mood for something lighter so I went with the Southwest Cobb Salad and it was not only delicious but quite filling. My bf had the Chile Devil Pot Roast. Such a wonderful find. Indoor seating and outdoor seating that had a fire or heaters for the cooler temperatures. Service was quick and our waitress was wonderful, quite interactive and charismatic. We got the mushrooms and chips and queso with chorizo, both appetizers were great. So great that my friend is planning on trying to remake the queso. The steak was good but the best thing on the menus in my opinion (sounds crazy but trust me) is the giant taco salad type thing (forget the official name). Let me start with the positive. The food was amazing. We were a table of five and I can't say a single plate was awful. The fillet grading the lamb was electable pork chop was so tasty and even the quesadilla was so cheesy. The problem is we walked in the hostess wrote us off basically told us not to waste our time we read about how good the restaurant was so we decided to stick around. There were no accommodations attempting to be made to sit us down or anything to help us. We are basically written off just as we were getting ready to go to other large parties walked in and they were immediately accommodated. Finally, the manager interjected she attempted to make an apology, but there was never any kind of hospitality or gestures to compensate or the over an hour wait and ignoring us while others were immediately attended to. meanwhile our party had come from far and met in the middle three hours from the north three hours from the south to celebrate my son's birthday and very disappointed in the fact that we were not valued as customers While I love the food. Wow!!! I am here to do a comedy show tomorrow and I brought my wife since it's her birthday... staying at the bed-and-breakfast attached to this restaurant so we ate here and I'm not kidding. It's likely the best restaurant in town and although a small town, quite a few restaurants. We sat outside. It's Loud. They have construction duty fans to circulate the hot New Mexican air. It's necessary but if your anything like my mother-in-law it would be intolerable. For us, we were grateful and just sat close together to hear each other. ;) Looks like this establishment is the place to be for live music and a good time on the weekends. We were there on a Wednesday which is "wine down" day and all wine is 40% off! That was a win and we tried the expensive stuff we normally wouldn't order! A friend recommended this place to me from Carlsbad. I praise his recommendations always, this is his first let down in 12 years of knowing him. Drive the ~40 minutes from Carlsbad where I stay for work. Was excited to quench my palate. Beware service is slow but has nothing to do with a negative review. I gladly wait and sip on drinks and nibble when service takes awhile. I actually enjoy it more than being rushed, especially at a fairly pricey restaurant. So, water came without asking after we ordered drinks so that was a good sign. Environment is superb in my opinion. Then, was asking about appetizers, server wasn't real helpful. We ordered the trio dip (queso, salsa, artichoke) and deviled eggs. I was mistaken that the trio came with guacamole. I think me enquiring about that confused her. The apps came and they were a huge bowl of guac and the trio, no eggs... I let it be. Everything was bland unfortunately. Queso, no taste, which is crazy. Salsa, bland, also weird. Artichoke was a bit bland too but was good. Guac needed lime or even orange juice or something. Couldn't quite put my finger on it but we agreed it was bland as well. Even had an odd aftertaste that avocados do sometimes if you know what I mean. So, I wasn't in the mood for a steak but my friend said the filet with peppercorn gravy blah blah blah had to be tried. Okay, service was crazy slow at that point and apps were shitty, so I said to myself, I'm gonna get this staple of theirs according to my buddy and if that's great I might come back. Well, entrees came, steak salad was decent (not 45 minute drive one way good though). My filet was good ( again, not for the drive, nothing special, just a well cooked filet as the price should be). Mah potatoes were good. Cheddar Mac and cheese was the highlight of my meal and the 2 top shelf long islands for us. Server brought us the entrees and we still hadn't received napkins or silverware to eat it.... Asked for check and to go boxes. She brought the check no boxes. Asked for boxes and waited longer. I tipped 7% ($10) on a $146 bill. I haven't tipped below 15% in probably 15 years and it has to be really bad experience. I factored in gas money for this instance. Won't be back and won't recommend. My buddy has been in NM working way too long. This place is fine for Artesia but don't go out of your way. Much rather visit Yellow Brix or Trinity or even the methhead service but good food Lucky Bull in Carlsbad than this place any day. Covid must've messed with the world's taste buds permanently, well, not mine. Also, the server chick needs to quit smoking pot and write an order down for christs sake. The chips and salsa were pretty decent for sure. We sat outside which probably wasn't the best idea but they had heaters so we figured we would be okay. Until one of the heaters ran out of propane and we had to ask several times for a new propane bottle. We finished our dinner before the heater got turned back on. They have outdoor seating that would have been pretty inviting any other time of the year, but this is August. It's hot. I went inside instead, and enjoyed the indoor southwestern atmosphere. Honestly, it reminded me of the El Torito chains, which is fine. The tables were clean and the room was air conditioned, so I was happy. I ordered red and green enchiladas.
