My wife and I lodged at the Adobe Inn primarily because of its prime location in the heart of Carmel and because of its reasonable cost. Continental breakfasts and parking were complimentary. Our room provided sufficient space but was in obvious need of reconditioning. For instance, on one wall the outline of a missing framed picture was clearly visible showing grime and indicating the need for a thorough cleaning and/or a new paint job. As another example, the entranceway to the small deck had a sliding glass door but was missing a screen door. That was significant because the hotel does not air condition its rooms. Leaving the entry open door was not an option because birds constantly perched on the deck (which was totally unusable because of the profuse droppings) and could have easily entered the room if the glass door had remained open. As a result, the only ventilation that we had was a small vent through a wall to the outside that was insufficient for cooling the room. The staff, however, was congenial and very helpful. Our breakfasts, which were delivered to our room (there is no dining room), offered a good variety of food that satisfied us. Due to the rundown condition of our room, the Adobe Inn is rated unsatisfactory. read more

We found ourselves exploring beautiful places Christmas Eve while I am working in San Francisco. Had to see the lone cypress & 17 mi drive & ended up in Carmel by the Sea. Looking for a place to spend the evening, while seeking a suitable place to refresh & imbibe. Drove past this cool older place. Gina at the desk was warm & welcoming & full of good advice for dining & exploring. This is a simple country inn, a refuge from the urban crush. Our room had a gas fireplace, a deck with a (distant) view of the ocean. This was a lovely way to enjoy a peaceful holiday. Try Napoli for a meal ! read more

My wife and I stayed at the Adobe Inn for 3 nights celebrating our anniversary. I honestly don't have a lot to say that is negative about this place, I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. When we arrived after a 9 hour drive we were greeted with friendliness and a quick check-in. I'll try to break down my review for help of anyone considering staying here. Rooms: We had a double queen room that faced the ocean. First of all, don't expect AC, that was our first mistake, but not a deal breaker. They put a fan in the closet that you can put by the door to blow in the cool air, which actually makes a difference. Our room had a decent TV, gas fireplace, mini fridge, and the bathroom was typical. I would almost say it was like a studio apartment type feeling. We had a balcony that you could see the ocean, but you're not on the coast so don't expect an amazing view. Noise: Only complaint was the walls were Uber thin! We had a family below us and they woke up promptly at 7 and it was very apparent. The walls are paper thin so doors shutting, and loud noise carries right in. Breakfast: Honestly, my favorite part about being here. I can still hear the amazing woman's voice of calling out, "Breaaaaakfaaasssst" as she knocks on your door. It's continental but more than filled me up. This stay was great. We had fruit, chocolate, and wine waiting for us when we arrived as a nice gift for our anniversary. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to any that want to stay in the area. The price is fair for the area. read more

Location is great, room was spacious and a continental breakfast came with the room. However, for the price the rooms are way dated. So not the best value for money... read more

This hotel is very hit or miss. My last stay here was lovely. Our room was on the second floor, overlooked the ocean, and was nice and bright. This time though, our room is on the first floor and our view is of nearby roofs. The room is dim and dingy. The WiFi is completely non-functional and I have to turn it off on my phone and resort to my 1 bar of service if I want to try and use the internet. read more

We stayed two nights and we're mostly at the beach. We tried the pool, very small but luckily it was not crowded. We were put off by dirty pillows and a lot of things that are overdue some maintenance. For instance all power outlets. The other biggest problem was lack of lighting, even with all lights on, the room was dark. read more

Location: Central to all the shops, restaurants. On a quiet street a few walkable blocks from ocean ave. Reservations: made mine through booking.com, rate was on the high end and special requests need to be made directly to the hotel or no guarantees Hotel staff: very friendly, accommodating, give u cookies at check in and bring ur breakfast directly to ur room with hot muffins and warm granola. Hotel facilities: in general, hotel shows signs of age, deterioration, and could stand a bit more TLC. A fresh coat of paint, changing of carpets/tiles, slightly more updated furniture and it could easily be a 5 star. Rooms on the 2nd floor, back of the hotel, have an ocean view from the balcony but r less visible from within, d/t a cinder block balcony. Over all, I would give it a 5star for location and service and 3 for actual facilities. read more

I give 3 stars to the establishment and 5 stars to the staff. The staff have been warm and helpful. The hotel is worn and dated. I hear the owner is going to remodel. I hope he does it soon. The carpet is OLD and there are no screens in the windows. Without air conditioning, no screens equal bugs galore. When this place gets the update, I'm sure it will worth the money they charge but until then, you are paying for location in Carmel only. read more

We just returned home from a three night stay at the Adobe Inn. This place needs updating!! The cement stairways are chipping away and squeaking. The carpet needs cleaning and the decor is boring and plain. The screen slider on our balcony slider door came off its track three times and there was a cigarette butt on our balcony as well. The best feature in our room was the fireplace!! Breakfast was so so...I'm not a fan of cornflakes and packaged muffins. We will not be returning to this place. There are other charming inns close to downtown Carmel for similar prices. read more

I wish I had read some of the negative reviews on other sites before my boyfriend and I decided to stay here. First off, they charge you ahead of time before you even get there. We decided to splurge and get the king size room with the fireplace and balcony. Apparently, the room's fireplace was not working at hadn't been working all week. This was confirmed only AFTER we had checked in and got settled into the room. I asked why no one had told us about this ahead a time. (At least we could have decided if we wanted to stay and pay for a room with a broken fireplace or find other accommodations.) It was too late to race around town and find alternate accommodations, so we stayed. Plus, we had already been charged and it was non-refundable. I asked if we could get a portion of our money back - since we paid extra for a room with a non-working fireplace. We were not given a discount. I asked to speak with the manager. No luck there either. While my boyfriend and I were still staying there, I kept asking for resolution. I requested a call back from the manager during and after our stay. No one has called back. I've called them back several times since - the manager is either on his day off, coming in late, or at "lunch". Obviously they are just hoping we tire ourselves out and give up. (And as I write this, I must say I can't muster the energy to call back and get the next lame excuse.) We were so disappointed - as we were really looking forward to a romantic little getaway. The fireplace situation was very disappointing, but the part that really upset me the most was their false advertising, unwillingness to make a wrong situation right, and complete lack of concern for the entire matter. DON'T STAY HERE!!!!! read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. They've been ultra accommodating from bringing us an extra coffee pot to going to the store to purchase flavored creamer for us. Ultra important stuff. Views of Carmel village from the balcony are priceless. Beautiful courtyards and mature foliage. This will be the regular place to stay in Carmel-by-the-sea! Sergio is amazing read more

I would say service is fair, room service was not the greatest, rooms not that clean. Breakfast continental seemed like a great idea but process of checking on a sheet and leaving on door seems not to work best for staff, there always seemed to have our order wrong or not given at all:/ Location is nice, pretty quite but needs a remodel and better staff. read more

The hotel is in an amazing location just blocks from great restaurants, shops and the beach - so definitely convenient. I will agree with similar reviews however, the rooms themselves need some updating. Also, we were in a first floor room and the television was place literally to the complete left side of the bed - not that we were in the room watching tv much at all during our stay but when winding down at the end of the night it was nearly impossible to watch. Also, for the exorbitant price paid for the weekend, there are much better choices with similar location and better amenities including nicer grounds, full breakfast etc. It wasn't a bad stay but I think I'd choose elsewhere for similar price!!! read more

Very friendly staff. Great location. Good service. Clean. Beautiful gardens. Simple and a bit dated but nice.

Great place to stay that is pet friendly. It has a bed and breakfast charm but very clean! Loved the fireplace in our room and the continental breakfast delivered to our room in the morning. Prices are fair, and if you call and pay ahead you can get 20% off! read more

We had an unexpected change of plans and stayed for a third time at the Adobe Inn. The staff is incredible. We had to change rooms because of the last minute and the staff moved us and we were very happy. Rooms are great but Sergio and his staff are the best! read more

We were mandatory evacuated because of the Northern California wildfires and left for Carmel where we felt safe. Sergio gave us a beautiful ocean view room and let us check in early as we explained that we had a kitty with us. He was so accommodating to us after learning of our plight. All it takes is a bit of human kindness to be remembered. I will go back to stay with them again! read more

Pros: Great location and good customer service from front desk. Cons: Facility is run down (worn down furniture, faulty electrical, issues with the tv remote, and the worst water pressure from the shower). Also the room wasn't fully cleaned each day. Tip: If you decide to book request the top floor room as it has vaulted ceilings. Be sure to also check if it's a pet friendly room. Our first room was and I'm allergic to cats. We were thankful to Gina at the front desk for moving our room. read more

I was thoroughly impressed all around with the Adobe Inn. We had a room facing the street with a large balcony which was great for our dog who loved to sit outside and watch the people. Our king size bed was comfortable and the sheets were soft and the pillows were perfect. One of the best parts about the Adobe Inn was the continental breakfast room service every morning on a tray delivered right to your room. The muffins and fruit were fabulous! read more

i stayed here over the weekend with 3 friends, and we had a pretty good experience. our room was large and comfortable, though the tv was awkwardly placed in a spot where you couldn't see it easily from both beds. there was a gas fireplace that worked fine. free parking for guests. chocolates on the pillows. and a decent, free continental breakfast that they bring to your room, room service-style! homemade muffins.. yum. when we checked in, they were bringing hot chocolate chip cookies out of the oven, but the guy at the desk didn't offer me one even though i kept asking about them. it was a little odd. but yeah, i'm just sugar-obsessed. read more

Location: central to everything. Rooms were enormous - we were in Suite 32 and it was very spacious. The bathrooms need a refresh -- especially on the queen bed side of the suite. The shower/toilet combo is a tight squeeze and the towel rails are placed almost near the ceiling at least 6 ft up which was weird. The breakfast was mediocre with the muffins being inedible.. luckily Le Bicyclette is right down the street and food is devine. read more

We would stay here again. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. We loved our giant room with fireplace and ocean view. Our location was walking distance to everything. read more

I have reviewed the Adobe Inn twice in the last year and neither appears on Yelp as yet so not sure what is happening but I'll try again. We are regular visitors to Carmel for many years and for the past 10 or so we have been staying at the Adobe Inn four or five times a year and have never been disappointed. The rooms are spacious with gas fireplaces, the beds are super comfortable and the rooms are spotlessly clean and well equipped with fluffy towels and warm robes for the guests. The location, one block from the center of town, could not be better. The manager, Sergio, is always gracious and goes out of his way to make certain his guests have everything they need for their visit. Some rooms are pet friendly and most have at least partial ocean views. for the prime ocean view ask for the upper floor on the west side. read more

My family and I stayed here for only one night. Once we pulled up it looked like a bad motel and was not worth $340 we were paying for. We had a room with one king size bed and an "ocean view." The view was a bunch of trees, and through them was pavement. After disputing the price of this room they brought it to $280. When we called up for an extra cot they told us the one they had at the moment only had dirty sheets so they moved us to a new room. The new room had 2 queen size beds and reeked of mold. The lady was nice trying to help us and they offer breakfast (lacking). read more

We chose the Adobe Inn because of it's central, convenient location. We were attending a couple of events downtown and wanted to walk everywhere. One thing for sure, the people at the front desk couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Our room was large and very clean. The Inn itself is old and rather dated, particular the bathroom. Btw lighting is TERRIBLE for putting on makeup. We had a corner fireplace but could only get it going two of the four mornings. They deliver a limited-choices but nice continental breakfast to your door each morning. One morning they forgot our silverware, but all you have to do is call down to the front desk. Coffee maker is in the room. Pets are allowed but we did not hear or see any. We would stay here again. Room Tips: We stayed in a Horizon View King on the 2nd floor with a small balcony. We had tiny peeks of the water through the trees. Some interior rooms would have people walking by and you'd probably want to keep your drapes closed. read more

The Adobe Inn is a well-cared for, lovely hotel within walking distance of all of the restaurants, shops and the beach. We had a village view king room with a wonderful fireplace and very much enjoyed it. The room was quiet with no noise that you wouldn't hear at other hotels - I.e. children or the occasional loud car. The hotel offers underground parking which makes it most convenient to grab the car for the 17 mile drive or run into Monterey. The staff begin your morning with a nice Continental plus breakfast hand delivered to your room. The room we were in had a mini fridge and wet bar which was nice for cheeses and beverages. I would definitely recommend the Adobe Inn. read more

Ended up making the last-minute decision one night to stay here before continuing south on Pacific Coast Highway. (Didn't want to get stuck in the Big Sur with no place to stay - it's rare to find vacancies in the Big Sur's limited lodging accommodations) We didn't have a reservation at the Adobe Inn but we got lucky - there was one room left! The woman at the front desk was very accommodating and gave us a discounted rate bc we were checking in so late. After being on the road all day, I was sooooo happy to walk into an awesome, spacious, clean room with a huge comfy bed. The fireplace and balcony off the room were great too although we didn't use either during our stay. We were only here for a short time so I really can't say much about the location but I can say that not only was the room nice, but the whole complex was beautifully kept, well-manicured and very charming. There was only one tiny drawback - the shower heads! Maybe it's just a pet-peeve of mine but I find it very frustrating when shower heads are mounted too low. I'm on the tall side but even for the average-sized person, this shower head was too low - makes for an awkward shower. Other than that though, we'd have no reservations about stopping through here again! read more

We've stayed here twice now and both times were great. Very spacious rooms with everything you'd ask for (fireplace, balcony, nice view, some coffee in the morning :D ) Other reviews say it's pricey but guys it's Carmel, those are the prices everywhere (actually the others are more expensive). The inn is about 2 blocks away from Ocean ave. where all the shops are, it was nice to walk around Sunday morning with the shops just about to open and the sidewalk to ourselves. Very cute town. Not to mention the ocean is just a short walk down the street. The room itself and grounds were very pretty and well maintained. Other huge plus, they have their own parking underground, everywhere you look is 2 hour parking in Carmel. read more

My husband and I just got back from 4 days at Adobe Inn and we loved it! Due to weather we had to reschedule our trip twice, and they were very accomodating. The inside of the rooms is very nice so don't judge this inn by the outside. Complimentary breakfast was delivered every morning on a silver tray and giradelli chocolates were on our pillow! Loved every minute of our stay and will return! read more

The building is historical and very interesting. The reason you eat here is for the atmosphere. Enjoy the place and have some drinks to wash down the food which is OK and good if you are hungry. I give it 5 stars for the architecture and fun you can have especially with out of state or foreign people. read more

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at the Adobe Inn. We stayed for a weekend last November and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We booked the cheapest room in the place and still enjoyed the comforts of a large room, queen sized bed and fireplace. The little details are what made our stay memorable, from chocolates on the pillows to the free parking to the delicious and timely breakfast. The whole atmosphere is very cozy but not stale. Adorable garden, pretty detailing on the buildings. And it's right across the street from an excellent sushi restaurant. Easy access to the beach and all of the cute shops and art galleries. Personally, I think the negative reviews are a bit petty. Overall a great stay and location. read more

We stayed here for two nights this week Location is great. Older inn for sure in need of some work. Shower handle needs some repair and or replacing. In order to turn on , you would have to have a good amount of strength. Also We like to have sliding glass door open during this great weather. Having the patio light on all night was a disturbance. Had to close the dark drape so the light on the porch wasn't in our face. Beds are on the firmer side. Will stay elsewhere next visit. read more

I will be very short. It is lovely place in a great location. Room was comfortable, clean and cozy. Fireplace added a lot of charm. Parking included in price and easy access on premises. I would recommen!. read more

This was our 2nd stay at this hotel & I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Carmel & surrounding areas on a pleasure or business trip. The rooms are extremely nice with their own patios (with patio chairs & a little table), large comfy beds with down pillows, large bathrooms & vanity areas, closet is huge with nice white terry robes to use, cookies by the bedside & a chocolate candy on our pillows each night, delicious continental breakfast delivered to our room each morning (what they do for all guests), a decent kitchenette area with mini-fridge, sink & coffee maker (love the Starbucks coffee), very large dresser that would hold more clothes & things than you could fill in a week's stay, beautiful fireplace, and so much more! For outside amenities: pool, sauna, lots of flowers & a biggee: underground parking! This is our favorite hotel in Carmel... wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. (P.S. All the rooms are unique in some way re their furnishings or hand-painted art on the walls, all very beautiful. This is no cookie-cutter hotel). read more

after all the reviews we were a bit hesitant on what to find. when we arrived we were given a room with a queen size bed but on the ground floor which we didn't like that much. after inquiring the manager changed us to room 28 without extra charge on the first floor with two queen size beds, terrace and a gas fire place. the room was quite large and we could get a glimpse through the trees of the Pacific. as for the TV,yes it was awkwardly placed in a cupboard, but seriously, if you come to Carmel for watching TV..... the personnel was very friendly and accommodating, the breakfast was very decent and given the location (close to Ocean Ave, all decent restaurants were only 1 to 2 blocks away, and the beach just a couple of blocks down on 8th) this place merits four stars. read more

My girlfriend and I had booked a room at the Adobe Inn to celebrate my 55th birthday. The Innkeeper landed us a room at a "discount" price of $165.00 not including tax. Occupancy appeared to be lean as I didn't see other vehicles parked in the garage. The room was spacious and clean, but appeared "dated". My gripe is not with the Inn, but with the innkeeper. We checked out the following morning at around 10:30, although checkout time is no later than 12 noon. We had decided to do some shopping at the nearby shops. The weather was overcast and chilly, so around an hour later, I had to use the bathroom. We were still near the Adobe Inn so we went into the office to ask to use a bathroom. The same innkeeper refused and instead directed us to use a public bathroom up the block. Her response was just after an hour earlier, I had shelled out $180.00 to pay for the room. Matters got worse when the public bathroom that she had told us to use was locked and closed. We had to beg several merchants to allow us to use their bathroom before we found one human that allowed us so. The snob attitude displayed by the innkeeper at the Adobe Inn as well with other merchants is why I'll spend my money elsewhere, rather than in Carmel. read more
