Went there today for the first time. Walked in and the place smelled old and musty. We just came inside from being out in the sun and almost bumped into a table with two people sitting at it because it was so dark in there. Went and used the bathroom which stunk. Wife ordered the French onion soup, it's not what people are saying. It was average. I got the peppers and onions sandwich. Oh yeah, there was supposed to be sausage in it too. Had about 7 slices of sausage. Each one about the size of a quarter. Onion rings were warm for about 5 minutes. Probably because it took so long to get our food. My sandwich was basically this; a roll about 7" long with some red, green and yellow peppers and quarter size sausage bits covered with about 3 pounds of cheese. Will never return. read more

This place is great! The food is terrific and the service good and friendly (Heather)! Do not be put off by it being "off the beaten track" it is not that far and going east or west the access road runs parallel to the highway so the time is not wasted. DEFINITELY a hidden gem in the desert! read more

This is one of the most unique steakhouses in the whole Southwest. Originally an elementary school, this place looks more like an Old West museum with a restaurant & bar. Not only does this place serve up a great steak, but the kabob dinner is epic! It is served on a sword stuck into a board, like Excalibur. I've eaten here several times in the past, and always order the French onion soup. Should you want to have a cigar, there is a cigar lounge/library at the end of the hall, too. Back to the food: the portions are generous, so bring your appetite! read more

Very of the main path. Unique decor. They were very busy on a Thursday night. Nice staff.

Although hard to find (ask SIRI or Google) the food is excellent. If you can find a better steak in Deming, please post the address. My rib eye was at least 1-1/2 inches and could be cut with a butter knife. Eclectic doesn't even begin to describe this place. How about a 10 ft alligator in a display case? How about an oxygen bar? 10 miles East of exit 85, on Hwy 549 then Hwy 143. A dimly lit sign on the wrong side of the road. Really, ask SIRI then go find this place. You will not be disappointed!! read more

Ribs and onion rings worth the drive!! I agree with another review where the Adobe deli atmosphere reminded me if something out of a David Lynch movie... read more

The food is fantastic! The corn nuggets were perfectly prepared. The French Onion Soup is the absolute BEST I have ever had. The Italian Sausage & Pepper Hero was HUGE. Onion rings were crisp and flavorful. The bar is very well stocked. The menu prepares you to wait for your freshly prepared food; however, we did not feel the wait for food was excessive. The decor can only be described as eclectic. A true feast for the eyes with many historical and just plain interesting items to admire. I would have given 5 stars, but the bar tender did not know how to make an Old Fashioned, and the service seemed a bit disjointed. That being said, the good food and fun atmosphere are well worth the drive. read more

My wife and I took an out-of-town guest recently to Adobe Deli. He enjoyed the steak and baked potato, as did we. I also got the delicious onion soup served hot in a crock with oozing cheese. Outstanding. The decor is true funk New Mexican style. Be sure to wander the halls and check out all the interesting items. A few days after our Sunday visit, I realized I had likely left my American Express card at the restaurant. I called and sure enough it had been turned in. They promised to mail it back to me in Las Cruces, and true to their word, it arrived in only a matter of days. These are the kind of people I want to support with my business. Did I mention they have a full bar, beers on tap and a giant screen TV? Funky and fun. A little ways out of town, but worth the drive. read more

This sucks food took forever took two hours for everyone's food. Poor server took forever to get to us would not recommend!!!

It's basically a giant museum full of obscure collections. Hats, patches, license plates, hundreds of taxidermy. Great beer, good food, amazing vibe. read more

My husband and I had to land our small plane in Deming and were told this place was not to be missed! So we headed 11 miles east of town to check it out. AND they were right! It's not to be missed. The food and drinks were great! The atmosphere is incomparable! Jill, our waitress was awesome!! She even offered us her truck to get back to the hotel if needed. If you have the chance to stop in Deming, definitely eat here! read more

We had a great night... The service was great... Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the drinks were strong... The ribeye was tender and just fatty enough. The chicken eggs rolls were a real treat to eat. For desert we had the chocolate indulgence cake.. Very yummy.... The decor was amazing.. read more

This place is amazing. It's one of those places that make you really feel like a city folk. Well, it's a steakhouse obviously. But it also sells cigars and has an operable oxygen bar. What a paradox! It's off some dirt road in the middle of NOWHERE!! I'm presuming only locals know about this place, because it's off an old highway miles away from a freeway exit, and you have to turn on a dirt road to get to it. I'm not kidding when I say this, you feel like you're in a David Lynch movie when you go here. I mean, they have a bar, tables for food, and upstairs is the oxygen bar. When you walk upstairs, there's some other random ish that you would never have expected. For instance; a huge mural of Marilyn Monroe, and I think a statue of a mermaid or something random. It's kind of dark, and it really has a saloon like feel. .There's a pool table with those old school hanging saloon type lights over it. They do show sports every now and again. And the best part of watching a game here, is that it's on a HUGE PROJECTOR the size of a small theatre. Oh, and being in New Mexico, they have some decent beers here. I'm a sucker for Blue Moon, and Newcastle! The food and portions are excessive. I'm vegetarian, so it does only get 4 Stars, because unless you want a spit sandwich (it's on the menu, but it's a joke), this place isn't for you. Actually, my mom ordered the beef kabobs, and i'm not exaggerating. It was like a Pitchfork with vegetable and steak on it. It had 2 full sized red potatoes, tons of steak, and veggies galore served w/ a rice pilaf. I ordered a salad, and had some fried mushrooms. I totally helped her eat her veggies, and there were tons of left overs. Seriously, if you're a city folk like me, take a wild ride to the Adobe Deli. But as a warning, there are some super cute fat dogs in front eating off of cow bones. That kind of grossed me out, but whatever. I'm from LA. read more

Heard great reviews so decided to stop by on our way from El Paso to Tucson. Disappointed in the very rude waitress, just unpleasant. Half of the menu was not available because we came on a Sunday and weren't told until we tried to order. My French onion soup was quite incredible but my French dip was ok. Hubby really liked his burger even though it was well done instead of Med like he requested. My Aunt's fried cod (fish and chips) was still frozen/uncooked in the middle and fries were soggy. We may give it another chance but will hope for friendly staff and better food in future. read more

Very disappointed with my visit. Overcooked shrimp, Way uncooked, tough $25 filet, Mushy onion rings and very rude waitress. What an expensive, out of the way disgusting meal. The smoke smell and the wet smell we gross. We will NEVER eat here again. Avoid this place at all cost! read more

On the way back to Las Cruces from attending the Blues Festival in Silver City, we stopped for dinner at the Adobe Deli. First of all, you wonder if you made a wrong turn or something because it doesn't seem close to anything, especially Deming. Once you arrive, you will be treated to a very interesting experience. The decor is old license plates, roadside mileage markers, old hats, and decals and that is before you enter the dining room. The dining room (old stage and school gymnasium) is very rustic with a lot of stuffed game animals, pictures, and signs. The servings are huge. My foot long hot dog came in a large French roll, 2 or 3 inches longer than the hot dog. It fact all the sandwiches, except the hamburger, came in the same size bread. Therefore you get the equivalent of 2 French Dip sandwiches or 2 BBQ sandwiches. We felt sorry for the staff today, since their water pump for their well died this afternoon, but they managed to keep almost everyone happy. The food was very good. We are looking forward to going back again sometime soon. read more

This place is a curiosity. From the life-size cardboard cutout of our current POTUS which depending on one's political bent will either excite or horrify, to all of the taxidermy everywhere, Adobe Deli certainly is one of a kind as far as restaurants go. As other reviewers have cautioned, the drive is a bit creepy at night so be forewarned. We went there after picking up friends who arrived by train in Deming and were famished and in need of stiff drinks. The restaurant has a great variety of spirits, including brands that I have not seen in nearby Silver City, such as Hendrick's gin, and the food was enjoyed by all four of us. The wine pours are extremely generous so for those who love a glass of wine with dinner, this is the place to go. Beef is king at Adobe deli, but as noted by other Yelpers, the onion soup was also a bit hit with our friends. If I lived closer to Deming, I might go to Adobe Deli more frequently, but I think that the Deli will be more of an occasional rather than a regular stop. Friendly service though, and the drinks came right out, as did the food. read more

Check out the other 2 reviews that are posted. This is like a secret club-restaurant place that only the locals would tell you about :) It is really in the middle of nowhere and pulling up there, you would wonder if this is indeed a real place or part of your imagination. A fully operational restaurant with a cigar bar and a very huntsman hotel kind of feel. Amber G sums it up real well so read her review :) read more

Make sure that if you go to the Adobe Deli you go on an empty stomach. Their servings are huge! The food is out of this world delicious. I love the French Onion Soup, The Ribs melt in your mouth! If you are not a local get ready for an adventure. They have all kind of novelty decor. Even if you are not a smoker you will want to peek into the smoke room where you will find a double headed calf(taxidermy). read more

Husband & his coworkers discovered this place a few years back and drove from El Paso to get there. Staying/working in Deming this past week, it was a must to visit Adobe Deli again. The place is really cool to walk around and check out, but dine elsewhere. We had a party of six and ordered Rib Eyes all around. To say it was a disappointment was an understatement. Each person commented on how their steak was, by far, the worst steak they've ever had. Yes, that bad. And at nearly $30 a steak, not a good thing. My husband spoke with Van, the owner, to express his/our displeasure and his response was in the manner of 'too bad, so sad'. Owner said he would go in the back to check out the steaks/meat and requested that we stay another 5 min or so. 30 min later still no owner. Def would *not* go back to this place. What a huge waste of money and a big disappointment. read more

This eclectic bar and restaurant boasts an oxygen bar, abundant taxidermy, a ceiling fan made from a windmill (it's huge!), and tiny toilets (it used to be a kindergarten). There is cool, interesting, vintage NM bric-a-brac everywhere! The staff and regulars at the bar are friendly but don't suffer fools lightly. And the food? Mostly really, really good with impressively dramatic presentations. I say mostly because about one of five times with the same dish is disappointing. However, I've found that asking the staff what's better that night of one thing or the other solves the problem. I'm not a soup person but the French onion soup (or salad) that comes with entrees is always magnificent. Steaks, osso buco, and ribs are go - to favorites. read more

Never judge a book by its cover. Venture out and give it a try. Onion soup is amazing. Steaks are grilled to perfection and very tasty.

The place is an entertaining visual experience. When we first walked in we were told (barked at, by a grumpy waitress) there were no tables and to sit at the bar. When we went to the bar we were told we could not sit there (we had our child with us). Not a great beginning. Once we were sat (which actually was only a few minutes later) and eventually had our food, the steaks were good (though both were a little overcooked--we asked for medium rare and got more like medium), but the ribs were covered in a way way over-sweet sticky gunk of bbq sauce--not at all good. The onion rings were delicious. The famous French onion soup? It was fine, nothing special. The prices are a little high, but not outrageous. I'm glad I went, but I would not return. read more

We have had Adobe Deli on our bucket list since we started full-time rving in 2009. It did not disappoint. While the food was good and some items quite unique, it's the experience that we went for. Full to the brim with mementos and stuffed animals (I am not a fan) Adobe Deli is a feast for the eyes. We were the only ones there on this weekday afternoon but the service was fast and very friendly. Waitress and waiter are the owners and shared the history of the place. read more

The salad i had was excellent, the filet mignon was amazing. We came on a Saturday, no reservations and they fit us in. Packed house! And supplied me with Chardonnay!!! Will be back. Taxidermy was a huge plus! read more

Driving home from Pheonix, AZ back home to LC,decided to take a little detour for some dinner. The Zoolander treated us to special Philly Cheese steaks that were absolutely delicious. Absolutely the most racists experience I've ever had.The wait staff blatantly ignored the hispanic people in that place. The food was not to par with what I remember. The last time I was here was three years ago. It was great then. Tonight was the most disheartening, racist encounter I've ever had and I've worked all around the country including the south. Will never go back. And the movie crew of 200 people I'm here with will hear about this and every movie crew here on after. If I could choose 0 Stars I would. read more

I had an amazing tbone steak. Love this place. Don't let the scary, dark desert highway you have to drive on to get there scare you! The inside of this place is freaky cool! read more

4 stars just for the atmosphere! This place has some serious character. You would almost certainly never pass by here unless you were out wandering county roads so in a way it is incredible that the place stays in business, but then you try the food and know why people drive all the way out here. The french onion soup was the best i can remember having, very tender and large steaks, tasty fall off the bone ribs (although not smoked). Everything is big and everything I saw going to other tables looked good too. read more

WOW what a great find. Don't miss this place because it's out of the way. A dive that has cold beer, great food and very friendly staff. Dead heads cover the wall, truly a great joint. read more

One of my friends recommended this place - what a great find! It took us about 15 min to get here as my husband and I were staying at the Hampton Inn. It is a large restaurant with a great bar area. They also have a huge screen for TV shows. Had the BBQ sandwich with Onion Rings. Both very tasty. It was a little bit too much sandwich roll for me so left half the bread. My husband had the lightly seared tuna - great presentation and tasted as good as presented. Will definitely come back - but will probably do so during daylight hours as the 15 minute drive was very long in the dark! read more

I still cannot believe that a restaurant this wonderful is located in the middle of nowhere near of all places, Deming, New Mexico. But it is. And for the time I had to be in Deming it was a wonderful distraction! I almost felt like I was back in civilization! The wine list, the great bar, the unbelievable RIBS! Everything anyone ate there - in my presence - was raved about. Atmosphere, great staff, great drinks, fantastic food, and wonderful rustic ambience with so many fun things to discover!! Bravo! read more

We visited this restaurant last night. It was the greatest! Loved the atmosphere and the food! The steaks, onion soup, and salad was so tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. The owner's daughter was our waitress and she was the BEST! read more

We went to the Adobe Deli almost eleven years ago for the first time. It was as good last night as it was then. From the outside it doesn't look like much but open the door and enter. The atmosphere is second to none and my husband (who is a bit of a burger expert) said theirs was perhaps the best he's ever had. We were both only able to eat half of dinner (blame it on the appies) but everything tasted great! Doreen (our server) was great and took care of us very well. We live in Canada or we might go more! read more

We went there for dinner last night. The food was very good, the ambiance was poor. Too noisy and too dark. We could not even see our food. Hey Adobe Deli, dark with a loud big screen tv does not equate to classy. If you go there you go for the steaks. Period. read more

Was in Deming for business and wanted to have dinner at a place off the beaten path. Met up with some new friends at Adobe Deli. Wow, what a surprise. The owner has created an eclectic menagerie of Americana. Photos and website don't do the place justice. It was pouring evening rain and flashing big lightning outside and I had the smoking room to myself...listened to the ceiling creak in the wind and checked out a wall of reading material. My flatiron steak was disappointing (ordered medium and got well done) and my sense is that the food is generally so-so. But a few bourbons and beers later I could not have been happier. This place is a gem and a must-visit if you're on I-10 in southern New Mexico. read more

I really enjoy the Adobe Deli. It has a dark, cluttered, western feel to it. I usually order the southwest egg rolls that are filled with yummy chicken and black beans. I don't care for onion soup, but my family and several coworkers have tried it and rave about the flavor. This is a nice place to have a drink as well, if you're in the mood for a western saloon type of place. An added plus is the smoking room in the back, where you can escape from your group for a quick smoke as needed. read more

The outside is pretty Confusing but the actual restaurant is pretty Interesting. Culmination of random Southwest items and a collection garage items. The menu is Varied with items you wouldn't expect. The food tastes great. the service is kind of not so good. read more

Didn't know about the smoking room and was very disapointed that the pinball machine wasn't plugged in, but surprisingly, this place is pretty great. It isn't the food so much because it's traditional staekhouse food (I had the Alaskan Crab, and it was slightly overcooked), but everyone who had the steak was happy. And it wasn't the service, which was somewhat slow, granted we had a party of 13... But this place is wonderful in the decorations, the fact that they also sell packaged beers (if you can figure out what they carry because it seems to be a revolving selection, and the really obscure location on the far-Eastern side of "town"... With the name "deli", they do themselves a disservice, but I guess that means the food they serve during the day... They know how to cook a steak. The decorations are amazing and everywhere (think Horseman's Haven meets The Mineshaft Tavern in Madrid, with lower lighting). If I lived in this city, I would probably come here all the time, even though it is quite a trek from the actual city of Deming... Fun place... It's also spendy, but I think it is worth it. So much food was served that I was able to feed another visiting artist with my leftovers, with some left to spare for any midnight cravings. read more
