I really can't praise this little establishment enough! My wife and I were staying in our travel trailer at the nearby Poncho Villa State Park and were intending to visit the War Eagles Air Museum near Santa Teresa about 60 miles to the east just across the river from El Paso. We decided to try out this little café right across the street (NM Highway 9) from the Columbus Rail and History museum for breakfast before our 60 mile trek. Good Choice! Lawrence Haddad, the owner, cook and manger, immediately made us feel right at home as though we were long time local customers as did the young Mennonite woman who was our waitress even though we had never been to the place before. The service was outstanding; the pancakes were light, fluffy and very tasty and the eggs over easy and bacon were truly home cooked style and excellent. The friendliness really made the experience special for us. On our return trip late that afternoon, we opted for Lawrence's homemade pizza which he makes himself including the excellent crust. Delicious! The prices easily rival those of any fast food joint you can think for affordability and if anything, are a bit lower. For such a small establishment, the menu selection is unbelievable and the service is absolutely prompt, attentive and friendly. Your coffee cup won't run dry unless you request that it do so. We look forward to returning. read more

If you're traveling to or from the boarder, or camping at the New Mexico Pancho Villa State Park, Boarderland Cafe is a must stop. These folks have expertly combined local culture with a modern, chef inspired cuisine, and warm friendly service. The food was really beyond our expectations. The enchilada fries are everything, and for just the right southwestern touch to a classic burger I recommend the Pancho burger. I ordered a falafel gyro and was impressed with the fresh ingredients and perfect falafel. We topped off our meal with their signature Cucumber Limeade, which in itself is worth the stop. We ate on the patio with our dog and they even brought him water and a treat. Cheers to this amazing couple on creating a comfortable cafe for locals and travelers alike. read more

If you are told, as many are to eat a heart-healthy diet, as I being over 60 am told, one of the co-owners put together a delectable array OF salads tailored to your health needs such as my favorite, the Chicken-cranberry salad, loaded with excellent greens. The co-owner Adriana is highly knowledgable about healthy meals and has included a wonderful array of green salads, topped with grilled chicken and the like. My wife and I walked to the Borderland Cafe from the nearby Pancho Villa State Park with our dog Murphy. Within minutes of our arrival we were greeted with a bowl water for our dog! All of the food was delicious and the Cucumber Limeade was outstanding!! But I can't overstate the amazing service!! Everything we have ordered from the menu has been great whether it's a breakfast, lunch or dinner item. There is something for every taste and it's all good! We each ordered a soda, but instead of receiving fountain drinks, we were each given individual bottles. I'm not sure if they don't have a soda fountain or if it's their way of serving soft drinks, but it felt a little unusual, especially given the higher prices. Overall, the food was a mix of hits and misses. While the steak, appetizers, and bread were excellent, the pasta and soup left us disappointed. We may come back for the steak and appetizers, but probably not for the Italian dishes we originally came to try.

Beer selection is a little limited, I opted for Dos Equis. I believe all the beer comes in bottles, as does the pop. I'd definitely stop back in here again when in the area.

Apache Homelands is just off I-10 and is open 24/7 (they offer full menu 24/7 as well..not sure how they make that happen!), so it's a good place to stop by to rest, fill up some food/snacks and just a mental break off the road. I learned from my Airbnb host that originally this place was meant to be built for casino...but..somehow the deal fell thru..so they had to turn it into this type of convenience/food shop instead. The place is a little hard to find with no obvious sign (plus it sits right into the deadend of the road..so people can easily miss it or not know what the building is there for). I have no complaints though! I hope that this place does well and survives. It has nice, clean facility and great staff. Very hard to xome by these days!
