On our way home from El Paso, Tx, I looked up on TikTok things to do in Hatch and seen videos about Sparky's. My husband and I decided to stop and check it out. I was indecisive on what to order. My husband ordered the green chili cheese burger. I settled on the Johny's Special combo. The food was hands down delicious and very flavorful. The cheese on the hotdog was perfect with the beans and chili. The chili was not too spicy and very flavorful. The burger was charred just perfect. Very delicious. Highly recommend it. Cole slaw had pineapples in it which I thought was amazing. Very good. The service was alright. read more

Stopped by real quick as we were on our way to go get chili from hatch. Both the hamburger and the hotdog were delicious. Even the fries were solid with that seasoning and the drink was really good too. I've never had a lemonade with chili and I absolutely loved it. The band playing was pretty cool too. So I had a really good time. read more

We stopped into this busy, kitschy place decorated with signs and figures from the American roadside of the mid to late 20th century on a road trip from Denver to the Tucson area. Service was quick and pleasant. Their green chili cheeseburgers are fantastic, as is the spicy red beans side. Dog friendly inside and out. No alcohol served. They have a sizeable stage for live music, and some respected names in the blues genre have played here Tommy Castro and the Painkillers, among many others). It was good enough that we'll have lunch here again the next time we're passing through. read more

Where do you drive to get green chili, salsa, spices, and anything chili? It's Hatch New Mexico. After getting my bags of green and red chili I found Sparky's open. I pulled over and decided to try their self claimed Worlds Famous Green Chili and Cheese Burger. The one pound burger was tasty and the green chili was fresh. The bun used had a crease built into it so you could cut it in half to control it as you took a bite. The atmosphere was old western mixed with an antique museum and backyard garage. Everywhere you looked was an old road sign or an abandoned statue that was salvaged. The booths you sat in were just as old vintage as the signs on the wall. The one I sat in had many miles on it and the springs gave in and I felt every spring. This is one of those places that you stop into to give it a try and soak in the nostalgia but as far as the World Famous Green Chili Cheese Burger I give it a solid score, but not ranked as my top Burger. read more

**RECOMMEND but it's sooo Touristy** Had to stop to see what was going on in Sparky's because there's always a lot of cars, a long line or people walking towards the building every time I'm driving through Hatch. I found out for sure! These burgers taste like a well seasoned melt in your mouth backyard, charbroiled style burger. Lawd Have Mercy!!!! It was yummy.. I ordered 1 plain cheeseburger combo and 1 green chile cheeseburger combo. The potatoes were hearty, but the burger is what does the stomach a few favors. Meat patties are not small/ thin. No garnish on my burger, but there is a place near the drink station to spruce up the burger if you'd like. Please give them a try! Happy Eating... read more

Fun tourist place to eat! Lots of parking. Burger was great. Cooked to exact medium rare (what I ordered).... Add your own condiments located by the drink area. Lots....almost to much nostalgia everywhere. Even older arcade games that work. Outside is crazy with tons of photo opportunities. Very busy and quick turn around time!! read more

Friendly folks behind the registers and at the food pickup counter. Great selection on the menu. There was live music when we stopped by and it was very good live music. I really like the vibe of the place. It seems like folks from all different walks of life were eating here, and that's the way it should be. I had the pulled pork sandwich and their beer battered fries. Both were excellent. I don't use straws but don't ask for a straw; they don't have them. I look forward to stopping by the next time we're in town. read more

While in Hatch, we had to stop at Sparky's for a Green Chile Cheeseburger. The whole family ordered a burger and potato wedges. We immediately tasted the green chile and it was gooooood. The burger was perfectly good without being too greasy, but greasy enough. The wedges were cooked well and crispy without being soggy. The inside is definitely eclectic. Very interesting decor that makes Sparky's stand out. Our family arrived right when they opened, so I can't speak to long lines. We were able to find a seat and didn't have a wait at all. Before leaving, we ordered lattes to go. They were good but not stand-out. We will stick with the green chile burger next time. read more

Avoid this place it was horrible. My barbecue was 80% fat and no meat. Do yourself a favor and steer clear.

We were here on a Sunday not realizing they are closed Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. If we would have come and they were closed we would have been upset. Tourist trap what nonsense. The entire little town has revitalized itself by capitalizing on their famous chilis. Sparkys is a fun fun place. They are busy but the line goes fast. I had chicken chili. When it first came it did not look special but one bite and I was sold. My husband had the chili cheese burger. Cooked to perfection. My husband asked for their green chili lemonade. I have been trying to duplicate this recipe for 10 years with no success. People come for miles just to see the place with its tin ceiling and corny decorations. Recently traveled down to Hatch a few weekends ago for a sack of fresh green chile. Sooooooo, of course I had to stop and eat at Sparky's. Everyone always says, eat at Sparky's, eat at Sparky's. So what did I do? I ate at Sparky's! The place is fun if you have never been. Super eclectic. Filled with all the things. All the signs, all the statues all the knick-knacks. It's a delight. You order in the front, right when you walk in. The menu covers the wall and your order with a cashier sitting right next to it. Then you get your drinks, yourself. Otherwise, they will call your name for your order. The no. 1 (Green Chile Cheeseburger) and no. 7 (Smothered Green Chile Queso) were ordered. We got fries with the no. 1 and the corn chowder with the no. 7. The burger was good, but I loved the smothered patty with queso even better. The corn chowder was, okay, a little runny, or a watery consistency. Woulda been waaaay better had it actually thickened up. There was a live band playing in the main dining room. So that was pretty nice to get some live music during our visit. Didn't try any of the coffee or ice cream, or desserts. So I will have to start with one of those first, next time. read more

Sparky's is a staple in Hatch, so it makes sense to stop by and see what the hype is about. Unfortunately, the food doesn't justify the price. The burgers taste like something off a bulk pack at a neighborhood cookout--forgettable and mediocre at best. The one standout is the chili lemonade, which is genuinely creative and worth trying. If there's live music, the atmosphere can be enjoyable as well. My recommendation: grab a drink, take in the ambience, and then head to one of the other spots in town if you're looking for a meal that's actually memorable. We have been here several times throughout our travels over the last decade plus. It seems to have gone significantly downhill since our last trip. Hopefully the management can turn things around. read more

Go for the experience, not the food. Sparkys is taking over Hatch. All the surrounding businesses have been bought, and turned into Sparky parking. Wow! And you can tell, because there are all of the life sized statues, especially of various fast food restaurants. They are all over, like some kids movie, or maybe a horror flick. Service is straight fast food. Essentially none. Food is ok. The chile burger is essentially just a hamburger with green Chiles on it. Not too hot, but nothing special. Note, the bun does get pretty soggy. Now that I have been there, done that, would probably try another place in Hatch, read more

Sparky's is known for its eclectic decor and green chile. They have both indoor and patio seating. We had to sit on the patio since we had our pups with us. Unfortunately, the patio was teeming with flies and ants even before we got our food. Sparky's is a busy place that cooks your food to order so getting your food can take a bit and you need to go inside to place your order. It was worth the wait, The 7 ounce green chile cheeseburger is plenty to share with another person and was cooked perfectly. The steak fries that accompany the combo were a generous portion of crisp potatoes. Sparky's has marked parking across the street and in the back of the building. read more

Interesting and eclectic burger, and barbecue restaurant in the middle of the town of Hatch. The burgers are outstanding barbecue tacos with smoked meats were interesting and the queso sauce was fantastic. A little on the expensive side, considering what you got on a combination, but it was very good. No complaints. Service was quick. You order sit down and then they call your number and you retrieve your food yourself. Only thing that could make this business a five is if they straightened out their parking situation we literally walked to four different buildings before we found out where the restaurant was. Evidently, they've moved from one building to the next and have Flo over parking, but there's no direction or signs indicating where the actual restaurant is. Other than that, we give the food a 4 1/2 out of five. read more

Wow! What a great place. We stopped here on our way through New Mexico. We were a bit confused at first on where the place was as we thought we parked in the parking lot. They seem to have taken over several nearby buildings to allow for plenty of parking. We even found a place to park with our truck and travel trailer. When you walk in you need to find the end of the line and place your order. It was very busy when we were there so we had to watch for people as they were finishing to grab a table. I was so hungry from our long day of travel the I forgot to take pictures of our food. It was delicious, the cheese sauce on the chicken was wonderful, even had some extra to bring home. The coleslaw with pineapple was refreshing and delicious. We will be back for sure! read more

WORTH... THE... DRIVE! Took roughly an 1hr and 20 minutes, I haven't been to sparky's in over 10 years. Food road trips are my thing! It's definitely a spot to check out and eat some good burgers and I mean DAMN GOOD burgers. Not smash patties like what seems to be trendy now. Old fashioned , hand formed, grilled up deliciousness. We got a Combo #2, it's their double cheese burger loaded up with hatch green chiles. That first bite had me hear a church choir, I swear I saw heavens gates. I was ready to die happy. Juicy, savory, spicy, everything you want it to be, it's that and more. For all you new transplants to this region, it's a must. Passing through, a must. Hamburger was just OK, we ordered 2 green chili specials with beans. The price was of $34.00 for 2 medium sized single thin patty burger. The flavor of the burger was good with the grill flavor but it was not $17.00 good. No table service. You order and pick up your own food. Like a McDonald's. If I knew that when I ordered I would not have left a tip. I guess I was hopping for a thicker burger for that price. Ambiance was very fun to see. There was another area where the was a live blues singer. I heard complaints about how loud it was. Many tables were open in that area and I am assuming it was because of the loud music. We sat in the main area where it was quieter. I had high hopes for this place but I was let down. I will stick to grilling my own burgers if I had to choose between mine or Sparky's. read more

Arrived as soon as they opened and there was already a line. It moved along rather quickly. Even though it was early afternoon, the sun's rays were strong. Bring a hat to shield you while you wait. In observing, the line lasted most of the day so I'm glad we got there early. Once you order and pay, you can go inside and choose a seat in the dining area. They will call your name to get your food. The dining area is clean and decorated with antiques galore. I believe the location was featured on American Pickers. I wanted to take a look in there store to see what other treasures they had, but it was closed. We got the combo #3 based on recommendations. I could have gone without the BBQ pork and settled for the green Chile cheeseburger. We also ordered the queso for the fries, which was your average velveeta like cheese, along with a watermelon green Chile lemonade. I have to say that the lemonade was my favorite. It was the right amount of sweet, tart and kick. Overall, it was a great way to try green chiles in Hatch! read more

This was our second visit to Sparkys. The visit was just as good as we remembered from the first time a few years back. You can't go wrong with their Green Chili Cheeseburgers. That is what most of us went with this trip. My youngest went for the Oinker (cheeseburger with pulled pork). There wasn't anything left as it was all delicious. Of course we also had to have milkshakes too...I had the chocolate/green chili, my husband had the strawberry/red chili, and my daughters had the mango/red chili versions. Again, delicious! You'll have fun checking out all the old signage and other momentous while you are waiting for your food. They often feature live music in one of the rooms and now have more outdoor seating options since COVID. We understand why this place is one people talk about and go to when visiting Hatch. read more

It took 30 minutes to get a cold, dried out burger, with cold fries. The fries didn't even match the pictures posted everywhere (standard thinner fries instead of the giant steak fries they show everywhere). Filthy tables, self service burger toppings (without sneeze guards, etc). cheap bulk (sysco/smart & final type product) ketchup/mustard. Overpriced, full of tourists. No reason to go back to this tourist trap. read more
