The yarn addiction struck again! I've been in the Raleigh area all week for work, and with what little down time has been available I decided to see what was available in the area. Although the address for this listing is correct, the photo of the location provided here is very misleading. At some point in this shop's history they must have moved, because I nearly gave up on trying to locate this store when the GPS lead me to a "office park" that looked as if it began life as a condominiums. I was doing my last scan of the complex before pulling back out and towards the main road when I saw the small sign outside the door. Once inside, the woman (assuming she was the owner) was very friendly. She asked if I was looking for anything in particular, I told her I wasn't that I was just browsing. The shop is organized by weight (yay!), and doesn't have a massive variety but all the bases are covered. There's no reason a crafter couldn't find something to take home with them. I always try to find a yarn that is more local, regional, or just flat out not in the shops in my neck of the woods. I found a few skeins of yarn that fit that bill to take home. So why three stars? The misleading photo was very problematic for me. Not being from the area, the photo looked like I should have been heading towards a large shopping center or strip mall, instead I felt like I was going to someone's house. It was a little alarming. The hours seem haphazard. When I was looking at days to visit this ship, I noticed some days it opens at 10:30 other days noon, and closing times vary too. I'm sure there is some valid logic here, but from a customer perspective it's confusing. Then there is the navigation through the store. I see it all the time when I stop into a yarn shop, there will usually be a table of designated work area for customer to come in and work on projects, it's not a bad idea, but it becomes a problem when the size of the group and their associated bags (lets admit all knitters are compulsive bag ladies) block easy access to the yarns. I found myself, doubling back down one wall, and back up a hallway several times to get from one side of the shop to the other because I felt like it would have been rude to ask the two women blocking the area to move forward. read more

After spending last week finishing up a blanket for my son and 3 hours yesterday at the DMV, I needed a yarn fix... I tried to go to Yarn Tree Studio only to find it had closed and was no longer there. After a brief moment of silence for the death of yet another local yarn store :-( I got out my phone and googled yarn stores (hoping that perhaps, Yarn Tree had simply moved) and saw this store listed and it was relatively close by. Headed over there and upon walking in the store, I was met with the usual gaggle of "professional knitters" (who are these women who inhabit every knitting store and can afford to spend their entire days bitching and stitching? And more importantly, how can I get that job! ) As I opened the door, I was met with the usual awkward silence as the store groupies all stopped talking to check me out and see whether I was friend or foe... After a few minutes, they went back to talking about their medical issues, kids, and weight-loss progress. While always a little intimidating for me, I'm used to this dynamic since it seems that every yarn store has their own built-in coffee klatch. So I set about checking out the yarns... They had a reasonable inventory in everything from lace-weight up to super-bulky. I was greeted quickly by Sarah -- the owner of the store -- who helped me evaluate a couple of patterns on Ravelry and pick out yarn for one of the projects. She even measured me so I could figure out whether or not I would have to adapt the pattern for my size. The prices are about what you would expect from a local yarn store -- higher than what you would pay in the internet but you also have the instant gratification of being able to fondle and purchase it there on the spot. The store is large with enough room to move about (as opposed to Great Yarns where everything is crammed in so tightly together than you are afraid you will knock over a display and incur the wrath of the owners and staff). I would have liked to see more yarns and less open space but understand the dynamics of not having excess inventory in this economy and would rather see a more "conservative" inventory that will enable to the store to thrive for years to come. Overall, the selection is not as good as Great Yarns or even the now-defunct Yarn Tree Studio. But I also wasn't met with the general attitude that really puts me off from going to Great Yarns. I still was able to find some wonderful yarn and was happy to purchase it to try to support this local yarn store. As with most stores, I could live without the groupies and feeling like I was invading their club when I walked in to the store. But that is my hang-up and know it comes with the territory. However, Sarah was more than happy to help me and very warmly said at the end "I hope to see you again!"... And who knows... while I do have to work full-time outside the home and can't afford to spend my days knitting at my local yarn store, it does appear they have a "Winey Wednesday" which meets in the evening and maybe I might just grab my needles and a glass of wine and join the yarn groupies -- that is, if they will have me! read more

Beautiful selection of yarns and friendly, helpful staff - the customers are helpful, too! I like some of the more unusual yarns in particular -- sari silk, exotic blends... I bought one that included milk fiber. Not my closest yarn store, but it is my new favorite. I haven't found a class I want to take yet, but I keep looking. read more

This store can not possibly stay in business. The hours are inconsistent opening on some days at 10:30 and others at 12.

I stopped by Admit Ewe Knit because it is close to my house. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and they have beautiful yarn. They also offer classes, which I might look into. I will be back. read more
