I also notified him of the issues on the same day of the install. Most importantly now, the brand new doors his company installed are LEAKING!
Update:
Unfortunately the company did respond with unprofessional, denial and threats. Here is what the owner just said to me:
Owner of BM Windows wrote:
"1. You have a open balance, so no services will be performed as I explained numerous times.
2. Thank you for posting review on Yelp!
You really put your whole heart in to it .
Your review is full of incorrect statements and outright lies. Your clear intentions are to discredit and defame my business since you had made this public. Have fun with that. Just remember what goes around comes around. "
My review: First rain AND NEW DOORS LEAKING
I initially had a positive experience with BM Windows, using them to replace six windows in my home in two separate phases. Unfortunately, my experience with replacing my French patio doors has been an entirely different story, and I am extremely disappointed. And even though recently installed, they are LEAKING!
I had beautiful wood French doors with operable sidelights that I absolutely loved. They were a focal point of my home, particularly because I spend so much time in the room overlooking my patio. Although the doors still looked beautiful from inside, and there were no leak issues, the years of exposure to the coastal environment had caused the exterior wood to deteriorate. After considerable deliberation, I decided to replace them with a more durable, nonwood product.
BM Windows knew how much I loved my existing doors, how reluctant I was to replace them, and how important it was to preserve their appearance.
The replacement doors cost approximately $7,400.
The company suggested that I change the doors to swing outward rather than inward. This had never been anything I ever considered or even thought of. He explained that outward-opening doors were preferable because they would not take up space inside the house and said most people preferred that configuration.
What he failed to explain or disclose was that this change would apparently/allegedly result in a substantially different threshold design. He never showed me photographs, explained the difference, or warned me that I would end up with a large, conspicuous aluminum threshold protruding into my living space, instead of the clean, nearly flush appearance of my original doors.
Had I known this, I never would have agreed to the change.
When the doors were finally installed, I was extremely unhappy with the appearance. The exposed metal threshold is unattractive, interrupts the continuity of my flooring, and creates what I consider a tripping hazard. It is nothing like the appearance I had specifically wanted to preserve.
Unfortunately, the installation workmanship was also very disappointing. As the photographs show, there is sloppy workmanship, poorly finished joints, visible gaps, and other details that look unfinished or carelessly executed. This is not the quality of workmanship I expected for a $7,400 project.
I paid half the contract price but withheld the remaining balance due after installation because of these issues. I attempted to work with the owner toward a reasonable resolution, including replacement doors or an acceptable compromise, but he refused. The installation problems were never corrected.
And now the situation has gotten even worse.
Today, after the rain, I came home to discover a puddle of water on my interior flooring immediately inside the newly installed French doors.
My original doors, despite their exterior wood deterioration, were not leaking.
I replaced them to eliminate an existing maintenance problem, not to introduce water intrusion into my home. Now I am concerned not only about the improper installation and lack of waterproofing but also about potential damage beneath my flooring.
I have notified BM Windows about the water intrusion and have not received a response.
What makes this experience particularly frustrating is that I was a repeat customer who trusted this company and have paid them roughly $10,000. They knew exactly what I wanted, personally recommended a significant design change without explaining its consequences, and then refused to provide an acceptable resolution when the finished product was not what I expected.
Now, just about two months after installation, I have water coming into my home through doors that cost thousands of dollars.
I regret replacing my original doors with BM Windows and cannot recommend this company based on my experience.
I am attaching photographs so prospective customers can see the difference between my original doors and the replacements, the quality of the installation, and the water intrusion following the rain.
