It is completely unfair to give a company a 1-star when a business replies with an answer you don't like - all it does is skew the rating on here and make *you* look bad - not the business. Anyway, rant over! I used Action Window for replacing my front door that was very beat up from being south facing in Lemon Grove and the previous home owner's 130 pound mastiff scratching and jumping all over it. It took a little bit of coordination to get everything finally ordered and installed, but that was on me as we were going pretty custom with the job. Come install day, the team was in and out in 3.5 hours and did a really amazing job. There was one tiny blemish that we overlooked, and David had it fixed the next day, and came out a few days later to do a final hands-on inspection. The price was super reasonable, and *way better* than anything that Home Depot or Lowe's quoted me. We had originals windows from 1986. I was always hesitant to get new windows because since it's a big project and cost $$$$. I had three quotes and met all the sales representatives. Action Window & Door, lead by the owner David, is a company full of false promises, excuses, and endless tactics to bully their clients into payment regardless of their unsatisfactory work and unhappy clients. ZERO ownership. ZERO pride in customer care. This included belittling messages, them introducing a lawyer in an attempt to get us to forfeit our Labor Warranty and our right to pursue a claim, filing a premature lean on our home (even though the project was incomplete), and imposing magical appearing "fees". Not to mention David and his office mates exchanging in a 55 minute, in person, debate in front of my 2 YOUNG CHILDREN! What was supposed to be a "3 day project" has turned into 5 months of disbelief and were STILL left with an unfinished home. David personally shared how the MANY crews sent back and forth to our home throughout the months had all been FIRED due to their poor workmanship. Despite a second contractor quoting us $3,000 worth of work remaining, David and his team have been unwilling to negotiate reasonable compensation OR personally come complete the work. Because of this we turned to the CSLB who have already found MULTIPLE violations regarding their lack of permits and monetary issues. We hope their investigation can aid in better protecting any potential client of theirs in the future. We wish NO ONE has to deal with any experience like the one we've been through. This company does not respect your time. They'll reschedule last minute. The installer will show up late, if at all. The installers left a mess by not properly sealing off the work area. Had to clean up after them at 730pm (appointment time was originally for 10am-1pm) I've only completed the transaction because i already invested so much time and money with them. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the hassle and stress of dealing with this business. The sliding door itself is ok, but at what cost?!?! read more

David is awesome and literally saved us hundreds of dollars with his kindness. We had an Airbnb guest that smoked in our bathroom and left 2 big burn marks on the window frame. We requested quotes to fix from several window repair places on Yelp, including Action Window & Door. All of them either said they don't offer that service, or said the window would need to be replaced for a cost of between $600 and $650. All of them except David, that is. David asked for photos and then explained to me how we could fix the damage ourselves. We followed his advice, spent $25 at Home Depot for supplies, and fixed everything ourselves in relatively little time. We very much appreciate that he went out of his way to help us solve our problem and save tons of money, and that he did it for free! Thank you David! David was the most knowledgeable by far of all the window people we met with, and he educated us on local regulations/features required by law (especially important since our home is situated in a fire zone). Action Window & Door was recommended by our longtime contractor. We had a competitive bid for approximately 35 windows (some wood and some aluminum). Action proposed a combination of "replacement" windows and "built in" windows minimizing the amount of stucco repair. The results are a very uniform appearance and nearly undetectable stucco work. The job was scheduled for three weeks and supervised on site every day by David. The crew showed up on time and left the job site neat and orderly each afternoon. In the case of a few windows, screens arrived damaged, we were informed immediately and new screens were ordered before the job was finished. As I drive through our neighborhood of 30+ year old homes, nearly all have had their windows replaced. I can easily see which windows were replaced by Action. It is always wonderful to find a contractor who will bend over backward to get you exactly what you ask for. That has been my experience with Action Window and Door. I needed to replace my pantry door because my children would ding the refrigerator door against the pantry door knob. I've always wanted a chalkboard pantry door, but I didn't want the knob to stick out as it did before. I explained this to David of Action Window and Door and they solved the problem with a custom-made door using a magnetic mechanism instead of a twist-and-turn door knob. Wow! Also, as we have two schnoodles I wanted a screen door that would incorporate a pet door within it--of course something you couldn't buy at Home Depot or Lowes, right? I tried to purchase the insert for the sliding door but the size recommended for my 8' door didn't seem to fit properly, plus it looked awkward so I returned it to the store. Again, Action Window and Door finds a way to make it work! Alex, the Lead Installer, installs a pet guard to "pet-proof" my screen and devices a way to incorporate the pet door. Now, we're ready to welcome the cool summer breeze sans bugs, and the dogs can still come in and out. Finally, I wanted to install a security screen door for the garage door so I can leave the door open while working out in the garage. As the jamb (the frame around the door) was falling apart from weather damage, Alex installed a new jamb and then installed my new security screen door. Nathan seemed more knowledgeable than ANY of the other guys who came by (he actually had a catalog and knew door dimensions and framing and was able to answer all my questions!). He promptly sent us the quotes that same evening (a few hours later) and was willing to adjust any details we needed. The only buster here was that labor seemed to cost just as much as the door itself (coming in at about $1200 just for labor - which did NOT include any finishing/painting which would've been another $400) for a 3/6 by 6/8 single fiberglass entry door. Upon doing some research there were several providers in the area that supplied the exact same door for less than $1000 - making the $1200 - $1600 labor charge just to put a door in a bit steep. Had I not had the skills to do this myself (maybe not as fast or as well) -- I'm sure this would've been one of the more (if not the most) attractive offer to go with. For those who have ZERO handyman skills - you should probably look at these guys who supply Therma-Tru doors. read more

My wife and I purchased our 1979 built home in Tierrasanta in 2014 that which still had its original aluminum frame-single pane windows. Some falling out of their frames, others missing screens, almost none locking. It was time to upgrade! We shopped a few different companies for experience, local-based'ness, price, customer service (based on reviews) and product (Milguard and Simonton). We had quoted Milguard in 2014 with a few companies but didn't pull the trigger and the price inflated to $2,000+ since then! After looking at Simonton's products, short of the novelty that Milguard has with its lock mechanisms (handles with integrated locks and pitched-as "easy to unlock window"), we settled on Simonton. Dual pane, insulated, warrantied, just simpler locks/toggles. Their sales associate came out and measured everything in short order, pitched to my wife (she had more availability than I did) and left some brochures. We pulled the trigger and within 4 weeks had 11 windows and 3 sliders installed. Most of the work was done on the first day very quickly, some touch ups and insulation/final work on the second. We had a few minor concerns with the work and product that we brought to Action's attention (nothing pressing or alarming and I would rather get out ahead and give someone a chance to address it or explain it). The owner (David), came out to do a walkthrough and "wow'ed" us with his customer service and addressed everything satisfactorily and quickly. Overall great experience. Today, the door installation is finally completed after a damaged part of the door had to be ordered, stained and installed. New installation person, Tennessee, came as promised. Replaced the damaged door part. Happily he left the job site as clean as it was when he arrived. He placed tarp on all the areas he was worked. The owner called to reassure me that my doors would be installed before the holidays, and they were. The delay was not AW&D's fault; their manufacture was changing systems and had delays of their own. Even after all that it was a pleasure working with AW&D! I would highly recommend them to anyone. My experience with Nate at Action Windows was 100% professional from the first phone call. My neighbors had Action Windows install the 7300 Daylight Max a couple years ago. They blew the doors off my windows that were installed when the house was built 30 years ago. Once Nathan had taken field dimensions we began texting daily, we nailed down a price. If Demetri isn't there best installer, I would be surprised. Every window fit perfectly, as far as trimming and casing out both sliders, the appearance is that of a true finished carpenter. To have that clean of a look installing 26 windows and two 6'-0" x 6'-8" sliders and to be complete in two days was very efficient. Wherever they worked drop clothes were down. For just a two man crew, it was amazing to watch. If you're thinking about retrofitting with vinyl windows, I highly recommend Nate at Action Windows. Let him start the process! Plus Action came with a good recommendation from a friend who is a contractor and uses them for projects. After the initial spec, we went through a few iterations to refine some details and they responded in a timely manner. The product is excellent. We ordered the windows with extra thick glass for sound reduction. Compared to our old single layer Windows, these have removed about 75% of the noise pollution from neighbors, dogs, highway etc... Our home is much more enjoyable. The service and sales team are genuinely honest and they do business with integrity. They were upfront with all the details and didn't try to stick us with absurd pricing or unnecessary upgrades. Cheers to Nathan for selling us. The installation for 10 windows and 1 door took about a day and a half. They cleaned up their work area just fine and even helped reposition our blinds because vinyl windows frame are deeper than aluminum frames. We don't remember the names of our installers, but we want to give them a shout out as well. We think it was Dan? We are also grateful to the install team as they pointed out termite activity that needed to be addressed. Luckily we have a pest control contract, so hopefully that will be resolved soon.
