I stumbled upon Candy Man randomly on my walk through the main shopping area just to see what they had. It smelled amazing inside and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed and they were patient while we browsed the chocolates. We ended up getting quite a few truffles (which may have been a messy idea due to the extreme heat that day) and they were delicious!! I wanted to go back and get more for later but we were short on time. I highly recommend getting some sweets from the Candy Man! You won't regret treating yourself to their homemade desserts. read more

Walked into this narrow and dainty candy, chocolate, cookies and gifts shop while visiting. The proprietor was leaned against the back shelf, face immersed in a book on 'Frida Kahlo' - there was not really a stimulating greeting when we entered the store.. Nevertheless, the quantity and quality of the sweets, goods and filled candies in this small shop was simply awe inspiring! There were all sorts of candied lumps of caramel, cherry, chocolate, almond, truffles, pistachio and you can't name each variety you could think of.. Cappuccino, Oreo, double chocolate, whiskey filled and nut covered hand made chocolate clusters of all shapes flavors. One orders the amount, which is paid by weight (weighed on an electronic scale - professionally) and then they are each boxed in tiny green boxes. This place makes a great bet for gifts for women in your family, as a dinner-gift for invitations to a local dinner party at somebody's home, as a small gift to bring home or just to have a relaxed dessert at home with an espresso. When I tried the chocolates outside after my purchase, I did notice a bit of inconsistency in the hardness of a few nut clusters; this leads me to think that they are only refilled when they sell out one tray.. but that is a minor quip. The smooth, rounded chocolate bonbons were impeccable & soft!! I will come back to this wonderful tiny speck. Cute little shop and something you would expect in a tourist spot like Lake Placid. It is Expensive but I guess its because they are homemade. We ordered everything from chocolate pretzels to chocolate graham crackers. Apparently ivory means white chocolate here. They also have these big peanut butter cups which I had to order. Reaaaaally well stocked full of 100s of different chocolate truffle type things... We ordered just one piece of the fudge and it was plenty for two people to enjoy by the fireplace at the starbucks across the street. Ordered the chocolate+walnut...would definitely recommend. This is a cute chocolate shop. I got a milk chocolate covered marshmallow stick, a raspberry creme, a maple creme, a white chocolate almond bark, a dark chocolate turtle, and a brick of maple fudge. For the haters that keep saying that candyman makes things out of mixes and its just a peppermint patty recoated. If you go to the candyman store in Jay New York you can see them making it from scratch. Before you open your mouth maybe you should do a little research. And before you start bumping your gums Im native to Jay New York. We could say that NYC is just a tourist trap but we wont .. One more thing for the people saying the candy isnt good obviously your palette is use to mass manufactured chocolate. I did order two boxes and spoke to Amy who was great ! A great little shop to stop by for a sweet tooth! They make candy there and also feature Adirondack chocolate! The house made candy is sold by the pound. They have a huge variety with different flavors, buts, pretzels, etc. I thought the chocolate was pretty good. The best chocolate was definitely the Adirondack chocolate. Super creamy and melt in your mouth! They have chocolate molds of different native animals and features of the Adirondacks which I thought was super cute and a perfect gift/souvenir! Walked pasted earlier in the week and saw a gorgeous puppy sitting in the window just smiling and looking so friendly! Went in today to explore their chocolate but more importantly to pet the pup. The chocolates behind the glass looked amazing (especially the chocolate covered pretzels) I wanted to try them all. (But I didn't). I decided to buy a bunch of assorted chocolates for my nonna. I really was expecting a lot from this local business. I had some of their chocolate a long time ago and it was very good. Now it is just high priced, low quality chocolate in a tourist trap. After reading all of the other reviews, it is obvious that these chocolates are popular with tourists that pop in to get a couple of pieces of something sweet. If that is your goal, then this chocolate is better than the typical grocery store stuff. If you are looking for high quality chocolate, keep looking. The chocolate that Adirondack uses is mediocre at best. The dark chocolate is milder and sweeter than grocery store chocolate chips. The milk chocolate is waxy with little chocolate flavor. The fillings are almost flavorless. The cream fillings in particular were overly sweet and artificial tasting. The prices are ridiculous for the low quality product, but to be expected for a tourist trap. read more

This is a cozy little chocolate shop on Main Street in Lake Placid. During our vacation to Lake Placid, this was one of the first places we visited. I admit we stopped in at least two or three times to pick up some treats not only for ourselves, but also for friends and family. Needless to say the chocolates were delicious. We tried an assortment of nonpareils and chocolate-dipped cookies and pretzels. I was also impressed that the store carried more than just typical chocolate treats. We picked up a jar of local maple syrup as well. As a fine note, we stayed at the Mirror Lake Inn and were surprised to receive a box of chocolates from Adirondak Chocolates. I dream of this place all year round when I'm not in Lake Placid! I've been coming here for years, and my favorites are the raspberry chocolate jellies and the chocolate-covered raisins. Yelp led us here on a quest for some sweets after dinner one night. We made our way in and sampled a few of the delicious chocolates as well as got a few gifts for friends and neighbors. I have to say, the little truffles I tried were AMAZING! My favorites were the dark chocolate orange and milk chocolate caramel. My parents got fudge and chocolate bark. Two nights later, we "accidentally" found ourselves back inside for more chocolate and gifts. We even got a jar of chocolate sauce... which was confiscated by the TSA from our carry on (screw them, they probably ate it). I swear though if I lived in Lake Placid I would be here every day! Since I am a chocolate lover, I had to get two pieces, you know just to sample :o) Both were delicious, however as soon as I walked out of the store they started melting. Luckily, I only got two pieces, so it was fairly easy to polish them off right away. So, just as a warning, make sure you eat these right away (especially when it is super hot outside).
