This is a beautiful inn. It is obviously well-loved and meticulously taken care of. Large parking lot with a bout four electric vehicle chargers. Check in was easy and efficient and our room was in the adjoining house with a large great-room that was stunning available to everyone staying there with a fireplace, large kitchen, sitting area and dining table. I loved that their sign said to please vacate by 9pm bc our room was on the third floor directly across the hall from it and right beside the community half-bath servicing it and the room had no soundproofing at all. You could hear even minimal talking from that great room (and it doesn't have a door). That is my only complaint about this Inn. The provided breakfast daily was wonderful. The first day we had quiche and the second we had chocolate chip pancakes. All made fresh when you sit down and included sides, coffee, fruit, and yogurt. Really delicious and good quality and the staff were so nice. My husband is diabetic and they easily modified the options to meet his lower carb/sugar request. They also have daily evening tea with a sweet treat which is fun and coffee, tea, and lemon water are available all day and night. Our room was beautiful and looked exactly like the photos and the inn is so charming. Perfect landscaping, all common areas are so cute, and the location is to die for right on the beach, with access to the sand just steps from the lovely wrap-around porch. We were unlucky and it was basically a freezing Nor'easter the weekend we came, so we didn't get to enjoy the beach, the bikes, or any of the out door amenities - but we still found it charming and enjoyed both the Inn and the town. Just checked out after a 2 day stay. Absolutely wonderful, relaxing and renewing stay. The location is great - just a short walk to the shops and restaurants on the boardwalk. The ocean is the best part - you can't beat ocean front property and views. Their service is top-notch - welcoming, accommodating, and great attention to detail. I felt like I was in a 5 star hotel, but even better, it is an old charming, turn of the century, quaint home experience. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. Amenities are great at no extra cost - I took advantage of their bikes and yoga mat! I love that they invite you to stay after check-out to continue to enjoy the property. And watching the sunrise over the water was the icing on the cake. Normally, their rates would be beyond my budget, but with the WinterEscape promotion of 20% off, it was very reasonable. Husband and I had a great time here. Went to celebrate my birthday on a weekend in November! This time of year is quiet and serene, though it can get quite cold and windy there on the beach. On this trip we were blessed with not so cold weather, so we could walk outside during the day with thick sweaters or light coats. This is a 21+ hotel, so the scene in the fall is mostly mature couples. Addy Sea is in residential area, so no noise and lights from retail. This charming B & B is ocean front. There's a pathway leading from the building to the beach. There are some stunning views from some of the guest rooms. In warmer months you can dine or relax out in their patio/porch. They have towels and outdoor showers for beach goers in the summer. Staff is lovely. They have keypad locks on the outside doors to keep out non-guests and on guest room doors as well. We stayed in a room in the cottage (next to main house) it has a modern feel and a beautiful common area just for cottage guests. Our room (15) was comfortable but without the beautiful ocean view (next time we'll book far in advance). There's a private bath, but you have to go out in a hallway past a locked-off door to another room (not their entry so they don't come through there at all). Still it's a tad awkward. But the bathroom was very clean and beautiful with marble throughout. From this room you can hear some noise from guests in the other room, and from people who stomp up the stairs. Breakfast and tea time is great, and they were very accommodating of my special diet. I'd love to come again, possibly in May or September when it's warm but not during the height of the summer. Addy Sea offers five star treatment. My husband and I had no reservations (which I don't recommend) but lucked out with a room for two nights. A welcome bottle of wine greeted us as well as the afternoon tea treat. We enjoyed it in our well appointed room with a view (side view) of the ocean. Speaking of which the ocean is literally steps away from the Inn's wrap around porch and provided umbrellas and chairs make a nap on the beach so easy. Bikes are there for the ambitious but we didn't indulge. Breakfast is an elegant, individually served treat and the Addy Sea staff will make a picnic lunch for the beach (or that lovely porch) for a small fee. We felt so well cared for and will definitely be back for a redo. Addy Sea was our big find on this trip and worth every penny. read more

This last (33rd) anniversary weekend celebration was our fourth stay with the good people of Addy Sea. Every couple of years, my wife and I visit and stay in the Captains Quarters. The ground level room is next to the dunes with easy access to the beach. Absolutely ideal for us. We are planning to make this place the official home for our annual anniversary celebration, primarily because of the people at Addy Sea. The facility, the location, and the vibe are all outstanding. What we enjoy most is the kindness and care expressed by every member of the staff. My brother works in professional sports and always told me that organizations, rather than talent, win championships. One of the things I value in organizations is a clear ideology and practice to around servant leadership. Addy Sea has many great things to celebrate, however, for me, it is the ideology that each member of the staff embraces. From the owner, the staff, and to each of the student workers (btw, Chase/Chayce? is the coolest kid ever). My husband and I have been visiting the Addy Sea since the 1990's. We hadn't been there for several years and finally returned in October, 2024. Our prior experiences were wonderful. The breakfast buffet was so delicious and generous and the staff accommodating. Management had changed and our visit this time very disappointing. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. It was billed as gourmet breakfast which doesn't accurately describe it. The staff now serves you and on our first morning at least two tables were utterly ignored by the servers. They said they would come back and never did till we tracked someone down. For three days the menu included various types of quiche but always with no crust. So it was a tiny little blob of eggs about the size of a muffin cup. I was told there was no crust to accommodate the gluten-free guests. Two days we had a tiny--6 oz maybe-- smoothie as the fruit part of the breakfast. One day about five pieces (not whole sausages but pieces of maybe one sausage), another day 2 pieces of bacon, and another day a half a waffle. Five tiny little pieces of bread each day. And chocolate chips in the waffles and bread. Tea is served 3-4 pm but is snatched away soon after 4 so if you're doing anything and don't get there in time, too bad. They did tell me that you could ask the staff after tea was removed to get you something. All in all, the value is just no longer there. My sister rented the entire B & B out for her wedding this past weekend. It was so special to have all of our family and friends in one place for the weekend. My husband and I shared room 9 and had a beautiful view of the ocean. The room was immaculate and unique. My sister's wedding was a challenge since Hurricane Ian spoiled the beach wedding plans, but the Addy Sea went above and beyond to move it to another venue. It was also neat to have all meals served at the location and not having to go anywhere. I was disappointed in myself for not bringing a book as there are no televisions... but I realize even that is special as it's a place to truly step away from it all. The staff was amazing! Being in a customer service industry, I recommend the Addy Sea as a world-class B&B! The service is prompt and on point. The house is clean with no detail left untouched. Maggi, Jason, Tiffany and the rest of their staff are courteous and accommodating. My wife and I had our wedding there this past weekend and left blown away at the level of service and efficiency. The food was delicious and filling. Their staff was extremely polite and busted their tails to keep our guests and family happy. The setting and work behind the scenes by the entire staff and vendors was done professionally. They communicated openly with us and gave great recommendations based on our wants. Our guests and family were astonished by the overall quality and presentation. I know many of our friends will be back to the Addy Sea, and we will, too! From a financial perspective every penny was worth it. Their prices for the entire wedding were much more competitive than what anyone within a 90 mile radius could match. I don't think we could've dreamt a better weekend and stay for our wedding. This isn't a sales pitch, it's the brutally honest truth. I'm celiac so when places have gluten free options I'm sold! The chef is amazing! He also works at cafe on 26, so if you stay here I highly recommend you go there! Directly located on the beach which is always nice to be able to walk out to beach. Not giving it five stars because it's a bit outdated, yes it's an old mansion- but you can still keep up with it! I didn't like how you couldn't lock the doors, I'm a trusting person - but to me that's just too risky! But those are little things that they can easily fix. read more

Afternoon tea with a gluten free cinnamon pecan coffee cake was a highlight. The views from some if the rooms are luscious. Be sure to get an OceanFront view. Also, who doesn't love jacuzzi tubs? My wife and I spent a glorious 2 days at the Addy Sea in early August, 2004. We'd always rented houses in Bethany for a week of family reunion (with families from all up and down the East Coast). But this time we only could spend a couple days, so I went online and found the Addy Sea. It is a beautiful, vintage 1900 home, divided into 12 rooms and one funny little area. A full buffet breakfast is served daily, and tea and cookies (and lemonade) in the afternoon. Each room has a sink in the room, and either a shower or large (Jacuzzi) tub, and of course a toilet. In our room (#4), the toilet was literally in the closet (where comes the name "water closet"). But the larger and more expensive rooms had full bathrooms. Everything was clean and well-appointed, with real antiques. More than sufficient air-conditioning, but we preferred to open the windows at night to listen to the ocean (which was RIGHT OUTSIDE THE WINDOW). You may pay more, you may pay less, but you'll never find a nicer place to stay on the Delaware Shore than The Addy Sea. By the way, the funny little area is called the "crew's quarters," contains two double beds, a sink, and a semi-private toilet. You'll need to use the second-floor public bath, just like in old-fashioned B&Bs, but it's about a third of the cost of the standard room. We're definitely going back again! And if you're hungry, go just a bit North on the main highway from Bethany and stop at RedFin. Wonderful, wonderful food. My wife had the best soft-shell crabs she's ever eaten, and I had FRIED lobster tails and terrific shrimp dumplings with hot chili oil. UPDATE: The RedFin has now been re-named the Blue Coast, and although the food is every bit as good as the previous incarnation, they no longer have the fried lobster tails! BooHoo!!! read more

My wife and I love the Addy Sea. We've stayed in plenty of homes during the summers at Bethany Beach, but Addy Sea actually feels like "coming home." We love that we can hear the ocean right outside our rooms, and the staff have always been welcoming and friendly, but unobtrusive. The Addy Sea is very quiet (no televisions, except in one room), which makes for a great chance to really get away from it all. The location is close enough to town for a nice walk to the restaurants, or a short hop in the car. Free parking is provided, which is luxury in BB during the summer In response to Michael C.'s review: It threw us off the first time when we realized there are no outside locks on the door, but we've never had any problem with theft or our belongings being disturbed. And to get the sand of of one's legs and feet after a great day on the beach, a person need only use the outside beach shower near the entrance -- a standard feature of beach homes in the area. read more

Great little place. I often get called here for weddings either as a photographer or with our salon for updos and all the guests say they love thier stay here. As the place looks old its well kept. The owner Maggie is a delight to talk with and always with a smile. I see her constantly going out of her way to make guests feel comfortable and happy, I even seen her out sweeping the steps. Rather then ask anyone to do such a low level task she takes it upon herself to do it. A sign of a great owner ;) free wifi is nice and love the smell if the food here. read more

The location of Addy by the Sea is probably the best part of staying here. It's right on the beach with it's own private entry area making it very convenient to go back and forth from the b and b to the beach. The staff was very friendly and breakfast was excellent. The wrap around porch was very nice and allowed for us to watch the beautiful sunrises. Although I didn't mind, my husband and I were by far the youngest people in the place during our stay (we are in our 30s). Upon our arrival, I almost thought we were visiting an assisted living home but it made for a very quite stay:) Also, the decor in the rooms is very dated. We didn't spend much time in the room so it didn't matter much but if you want a very nice room, these rooms may not meet your standards. read more

My fiance and I stayed at the Addy Sea this past weekend for three nights, in room 9. The room was spacious with lots of storage. The bathroom was a good size and had a skylight which was nice. There are four windows in the bedroom with one of them having a perfect view of the ocean. The breakfast was delicious. The staff was friendly. The entire place was very clean. Only recommendation is to have more places to hang your wet beach stuff in the room or bathroom. There was only one hook outside of the shower and one towel rack. The furniture is too nice to drape wet sandy stuff over it so we struggled with where to put things. The water temperature is VERY hot, so be sure to test it before you hop in. Otherwise we loved it! Attended a wedding here this weekend. The atmosphere was very lovely, especially the view of the beach. The food was really creative and delicious. My only complaint is about the bartenders and waiters. They seemed completely miserable and grouchy the whole time. Clearing plates that weren't finished and acting annoyed when they were asked a special request. All in all a good time. read more

We just spend a long weekend at Addy Sea and it was wonderful! The inn is beautiful, the rooms have unbelievable views of the dune and ocean and the food and service is excellent. Addy Sea has one of the best breakfast buffets we have ever encountered and it is served on beautiful china in a lovely dining room. The best of The Addy Sea is its location to the beach and the fact that it is off the boardwalk. Things that didn't chime so well with our stay were the fact that the doors do not lock and that the residence is also unlocked 24 hours a day. With no safe in the rooms, this leaves little option to either take your valuables with you to the beach or hide them in your room. The breakfast is nice although limited in selection and hot water and tea bags were in low supply towards the end of the stipulated hour. They could keep these stocked a little better if they truly have an hour for breakfast. The rooms are nice but a little dated. The AC was variable and controlled by certain rooms in the house leading to one night being a fine temperature and another quite hot. The shower was very basic and small with no detachable head leading to acrobatics to get the sand off your legs. The deck of the house and free beach chairs are great but the staff were friendly at best. Consider this as an option but only for location and some nice, if dated, decor. read more

My husband and I stayed over the weekend and loved the fact that we could open the windows and hear the ocean. The breakfast was very well done. The downside was that the bed we had was horrible, maybe even original to the house. We did ask to change rooms, but they were full. I was a bit disappointed by the fact that upon arrival at 5:30 pm on a Friday night there was no one there to greet us. Nor did any of the staff introduce themselves the following morning. Also when we asked to change rooms, no one inquired as to why we didn't like our room. As a matter of fact, Maggie was a bit cool that I would want to change the room. When two people wake up from a night of tossing and turning due to the mattress with stiff backs, it's time to change the mattress. The website does list some of the rooms with good mattresses, wish I had been able to book one of those. All said and done, despite the indifference felt from one staff member, we'd stay again with a better room. Cannot beat the location on the beach. Wi-Fi wasn't always accessible in the bedroom, better reception in the living room. read more
