We did a complete gut remodel on a 1928 house, and trusted Mike & Addition Building and Design with the project. They knocked it out of the park. Mike is a no-nonsense contractor - he was quick to come by for an estimate, and gave us very competitive pricing. We appreciated Mike's transparency as well. Unlike a lot of companies that ask you to pay $2-3k for them to draw up some plans before even giving you quotes for a scope of work, Mike had a detailed breakdown of costs in our hands for every element of the project, within a week of his visit to the property. About the job itself - Mike's core crew of builders are incredibly professional and do great work. And all the subs he uses for tile, flooring, cabinetry, countertops, plumbing and electric are top of class. We had lots of people from different trades coming and going from the property during renovations, and people from other trades would comment on the quality of the drywall work, the plaster, the tile, etc. I can't stress enough the craftsmanship these people brought to the job, and they did a gorgeous job incorporating the historical details and architecture of our house with the new modern elements. Finally, every time we had questions about any part of the process, Mike was available by phone or text to guide us through any concerns, from design to construction to permitting, and he stopped by the property at least once a week to check on the work and review progress with us. His years of experience are evident. Finally: Mike's team got this job done in record time, and when he promised us three months to completion, he came through. The project did go a little longer than initially quoted, but that's because we added a few extras onto the project after seeing what a nice job his team was doing. (I really, really wish I could have him come and re-do the whole house!) I can tell you he puts an enormous dedication to quality into everything he does. He's put in a number of windows, all of which have improved our old house's livability; he's put in a door and installed an exhaust vent in my kitchen and a utility shelf in my laundry room. I realize these sound like mundane tasks, but I live in a old house that probably doesn't have a plumb line in it. Working on this house is not easy. Mike came highly recommended by his colleague. I trusted his colleague, so I trusted Mike without much thinking and contracted with him to do a complete remodeling and expansion of existing home. But I had to stop him from further carrying out our contract after a week of contracting with him. I was refused of my financial losses even after many attempts. So I had to take legal actions. After spending many hours of filing paperwork and making calls, and 7 months after, I was able to get some of my losses back, but not all. It really a 2.5 out of 5. The company is okay, I signed a contract with them for an ADU and canceled within the 3 days rights to cancel. I spoken with Christine initially then it was to Mike Ross. Christine was nice and acted like she knew a lot about building an ADU. However; she did say if she didn't know the answer she would find out. Mike was all business and seem very busy when we met him. I asked a few questions about separate electric meter and gas meter but they didn't really give me an accurate answer. I then called LADWP and the GAS company and they gave me an answer and I conveyed the answer back to Christine and Mike. I decided we weren't a good fit and canceled my contract. They kept my deposit stating they went to the city to see how large an ADU I can build. I spoke to my lawyer and she said I should get the deposit back but I guess they needed it more than I did. My house was a corner lot and the rules for a corner lot is different with the certain set backs for LA city. They initially said I can build it with no problem with the setbacks. Not only is the work exemplary and of the highest quality, but the courteousness and consideration shown to our family during construction was unmatched. We had an old bathroom that needed upgrading . It also had a number of repairs that needed to be addressed. My son was pleased with the work that ABD IMAP on his home remodel so I decided to use them as well. We are pleased with the outcome. The craftsmen that worked on our project were not only professional but their workmanship was meticulous. They thought through measurements and complex designs to deliver a quality product. Jose, the foreman kept me informed throughout the process of what was completed and what needed to be done. They let me know when they would be at my home so that I could plan my schedule accordingly. Finally, they cleaned up their areas daily leaving minimal disruption. We installed a hanging toilet and a hanging vanity to maximize space a facilitate cleanup. The shower used subway tile with a mirror niche. I wanted a clean, streamlined look so I chose white for tiles and walls. Colors would be provided by towels, rugs and accessories. As a matter of fact, we want to open up our living room area and we will be hiring Mike for phase 2. read more

Having purchased our first house in Valley Glen, North Hollywood, we were aware it was in need of serious remodeling. A 1950s Ranch-style home, it came complete with peeling wallpaper, musty carpeting, and even some dilapidated walls. As first-time homeowners we were prepared to spend more money to improve it, but weary when we began meeting contractors. Buyer's remorse already set in when we interviewed several contractors who were either aloof or unscrupulous. Then we were fortunate enough to find Mike Ross. He immediately allayed our stress with his professional and forthright demeanor and his integrity was as rock solid from the day we met him through the several months it took to complete our large renovation. While we had some specific things we wanted in our house, Mike and his team took our wish list and far exceeded our expectations to help truly realize the vision of our dream. Originally a three-bedroom, fourteen-hundred square foot home, our remodel brought an addition of a thousand square feet as well as an overhaul of the landscape; this prospect was particularly daunting for uninitiated owners such as us, but Mike's consummate professionalism shone through and made the task exponentially less stressful for us. As well as a new 850 sq.ft Master Bedroom, including a fireplace, and a steam unit in the bath, we added a cozy home theater room, laundry room, and the once forgotten backyard brought a new deck and patio with a trellis. In several rooms, as well as the main hallway, for example, Mike installed solar tubes and the amount of natural light that bathes the house is amazing. I would put zero stars if possible. Mike is the hardest person to communicate with. If you work with him and try to communicate via email get ready for a frustrating experience. Not the type of service you would expect. Seems like he is checked out or just not passionate about his job - which might be the last thing you want from an expensive contractor. Very disappointed in him and his team. Since my original post Mike has tried to pass the blame onto his architects and anyone else except for himself. Only after he read my post did he send me an email longer than a sentence long and finally called me! So if you want him to contact you I suggest reaching out to him on here. It is very frustrating in general when a person doesn't own up to their faults. I originally gave him the address to my place and a description of the work that needed to be done... So he had the ability to check it out before. He either did not do his due diligence on the job or just wanted to waste my time because yesterday was the first time he told me he didn't do this type of work. Make sure that you document everything with this company. He did try to "compensate" me for lost time... Which sounded like he was trying to pay to get this post off his review. We ALMOST went with Addition on our bathroom remodel... but I did some last-minute investigating and changed my mind. Here's what happened: Mike told us that Burbank city code required a bathroom door be 36" wide, so he would have to widen our current door frame and install a new door. That was going to be an additional $1000. Since no other contractor had mentioned this to us before, I called the Burbank building division to check this out for myself. And, guess what - Mike was wrong. The 36" requirement is for front doors only. Either Mike didn't know what he was talking about... or he wanted to make an extra $1000. Both possibilities scared us. The search continues for a licensed contractor with workers compensation insurance. read more

We had Addition Building & Design remodel our master bedroom and bath last year. Not only did the master bedroom need a serious facelift, but it was consistently hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Mike figured out our issues with the ac and his ac subcontractor balanced the ac vents and upgraded our 20 year old ac system. The project was supposed to take 3 weeks, but took more like 4 weeks due to the tile I picked out that was out of stock. All in all, Mike and his team did such a fantastic job on that remodel for us, that we have hired him again to remodel our kitchen and children's bathroom. We couldn't be happier with the Addition Building team and Mike's communication and professionalism. I love-love-love my new wood floors and I loved hiring Addition. Mike's crew did exactly as promised, completing the work within a weekend (does that ever happen?!) .. I have the new wood floors in the whole first level of the house, new paint on all the walls, tile in the guest bath, a new ceiling to replace outdated 'popcorn,' and gorgeous, sexy recess lighting. The price was phenom and he worked with a very tight budget. Most importantly, a mistake was made when one of our glass pieces was damaged and Mike's foreman corrected the damage on the spot. We hired Mike on to do a major remodeling of a new house, and we are very happy with the results. The job included kitchen, bathroom, new floors throughout the house, converting a crawlspace into a storage area, and just about everything else you could think of from plumbing to electrical. Mike cares about the results of his projects, and was at our house every day (we were not living there yet) to check on the progress and met with us weekly. He used the BuilderTrend app to post photos of the progress. If something wasn't to his standard, he would have the workers do it again. All of the workers and subcontractors I interacted with were very friendly and helpful. I never felt nickel and dimed, and there were a number of issues that popped up during the remodel that Mike solved for us without extra charge. I never had a hard time reaching him or his office. Remodeling is stressful under any circumstances, but it helps a lot to have a contractor who you trust to listen to your needs and get everything done. read more
