I drove to Sophisticutz during my lunch hour to give eyebrow and lip threading a try for the first time. IIt's a small salon located in a strip mall along the north side of Roosevelt Road near Main Street, Lombard. My wait ended up being about fifteen minutes since there were two ladies in front of me in line. The rest of the salon was empty, so walking in mid-day is a fine idea for someone on a tight schedule. For those if you new to threading, here's how I would describe the procedure: 1) for brows, you hold down your upper lid with your hand so it's taut. 2) The staff person quickly passes a length of twisted string over the surface of the skin, catching the hairs in the twists so that the hair is pulled out at the root. Multiple hairs can be gathered at once, and the process is fairly quick (my eyebrows and lip took about 7 minutes). 3) For the upper lip, you stick your tongue up against your lip from the inside so the skin is more taut. the same threading procedure continues. 4) You admire the work in the mirror, make comments, and then apply soothing gel. Voila! As for pain, I admit that it hurt. I could bear it, though, and it's no worse than waxing. However, even though the girl who threaded me was very fast and great at her job, it takes a bit longer than waxing since only a few hairs are pulled at a time. This means you have to sit tight for a couple minutes instead of feeling a sudden ripping during a wax. So why thread instead of wax? For me, I'd choose it because I love the shape it gives my eyebrows. It looks more natural. Also, there is no residue from the wax to clean up. When I waxed (my lip especially), my skin would sting for at least a day or more afterwards and be very sensitive. Threading doesn't irritate my sensitive skin at all. Threading is an easy procedure that takes mere minutes and is very affordable ($6 eyebrows, $4 lip). You must spend $10 before using a credit card. I'll definitely be going back to Sophisticutz. read more

I went here for eyebrow threading and this place is great and cheap to boot! I would definitely recommend this to friends and family and I will definitely be going back! I much prefer threading to waxing too, and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. Now that I've settled on Threading for my brow maintenance of choice, I've come to have a few favorite places that I frequent on a regular basis, based on where I am and the errands I have to run. So, when I'm in the Lombard/Villa Park Area, Sophisticutz it is! Each time I've come in, they either take me right away or there's a short wait. Mid to late afternoon is their busiest time so just make sure you're clear to them as to how thin you want your brows as they can start working too fast to get to the waiting crowd. Service is always friendly. Their work is clean and produces well shaped and symmetrical brows. They always make sure I'm satisfied with their work before they let me out of their chair. Brow maintenance at reasonable (cheap!) prices. I've been going here for 2 years, prices remain the same. read more

Went here a couple of times because it's on my way home from work. The place is spacious and fairly clean. The workers are friendly. For eyebrows it is $5 with upper lip it's $10. They do a decent job. The few times I've been here I left not completely satisfied because the 2 different girls that did my eyebrows left some hair. It's hard to spot so I can see how they miss it, but it's never busy so they don't have to rush. I rather it take 15 minutes for my eyebrows to be clean versus 5 minutes for it to be a half done job. I'll give it another try with a different worker. It seems like there are certain employees who does it better than others. read more

$10 for threading my upper lips and eyebrows! Great deal. I, however, am very used to paying $6 for both, upper lips and eyebrows when I used to live in Bartlett. So ten bucks wasn't a huge blow though. The place is clean, so I like it. The job is done quickly! I wouldn't tip the beauticians because they're not really paying attention to what they're doing. I've always had them yapping away with someone else, not concentrating on their job. I sometimes end up with a few missed spots. Hence, when the hair grows back, it looks pretty weird sometimes. The girl that did my eyebrows did it so quickly which surprised me because other salons I've been to take at least a few minutes. She told me she was done and started walking to where I need to pay. She didn't ask me to check if I thought it looked good or anything. Once I left I got a chance to look at my brows and she missed so much hair, it barely looked like I got anything done. I was the only customer there so there was no need for her rush. And she didn't smile once while I was there either so it wasn't the most friendly experience either. I put off as long as I could writing this review but because the owner Lubna has been unresponsive and neglected to address the issue of my skin being burned off by Christy, I want to warn others you go or plan to go to Adara salon. In June i.had my upper lip waxed by Christy and she burn all of the skin off of my upper lip. I was going to be in a wedding 2 days later and I was in excruciating pain. All the skin came off of my upper lip and all of my friends pictures with me in it had to be photographed from a distance. When I went to my dermatologist she said I had second-degree burns on my lip and that it would take about six months for my lip to heal completely. I contacted Lubna the owner of Adara salon and initially she seemed sympathetic but later stopped taking my calls to pay me back 4 my doctor visit, refund for my services and medication prescribed. This is a warning not to go to this salon. The lack of care or concern for their customers is a terrible customer service quality to have and I wouldn't be surprised if they went out of business soon with this behavior. Save yourself the pain, scar and headache just avoid Adara Salon all together! read more

I was here last week for eyebrow threading. When I entered the lady in the place was on video chat over phone. As I went inside she asked me what I wanna do there and continued to chat with her. They were speaking in their native language but what I understood from their conversation was, as the lady on the other side asked her to disconnected the call if she is busy with the customer, but the lady in place said that is OK to TALK now WHILE STARTED DOING THREADING FOR ME. What I ended up getting is VERY UNEVEN SHAPELESS EYEBROWS. I also STARTED GETTING MORE PIMPLES IN AREA AROUND MY EYEBROWS WHERE SHE DID THREADING FOR ME. She was so CONCENTRATING ON THE PHONE CHAT.
