I totally got my hair cut here on a wing and a prayer after a Google search. But let me tell you, this is no horror story, this is a success story! I am totally obsessed with my hair! I came in not having cut my hair in two - yes TWO - years. I was partnered up with Milissa, who is just so kind to talk to. She really listened to my concerns about my hair but I was desperate for her opinion for my untamed locks, which she happily gave. In the end we wound up cutting off FIVE inches and it looks amazing! AWFUL. I requested a simple low maintenance trim and light blend of my bangs that are growing out. Instead, she gave me massive layers which looks terrible with my hair type and facial shape, trimmed my bangs with the wrong part, and didn't trim the dead ends off the bottom in the back. All this despite stating the plan to me before starting. I called back and was told the same hairdresser would fix it the next day, to which I said no. Then, I wrote a review similar to above, but included the hairdresser's name, suggesting she get a new career. I went in the next day, showed them the cut asking for a refund. Management first argued that it was fine. Then they conferred and agreed to refund me if I took down my previous review. Mgmt said she was a good hair dresser and didn't want her name tarnished; it's true her name has a unique spelling. This makes me wonder... how many unhappy clients have they refunded in return for deleting accurate negative reviews? Anyway, I was refunded. My hair looked better before the cut. Love this place! Great for my daughters hair cut just before school pictures. She really appreciated the stylist as well as the atmosphere.

Extremely disappointed. As a mother's day gift my sister and I took our mom in to get her hair done. When she was seated with stylist Ciara, we showed her pictures of the hair color our mom wanted. The desired hair was a chocolate brown color with some blonde highlights. This was supposed to be a major change to the hair color our mom had, blonde. Unfortunately, she ended up leaving the exact same. The hair stylist dyed our moms roots the chocolate brown and lightened some spots of the blonde color she already had. We paid $152 not including the tip, just to have her leave the exact same as she came in. I called the salon Tuesday to express how unhappy we were with the hair results and emailed the salon pictures of moms hair before, after as well as the desired hair look. The manager told us she would talk to the stylist and call back. Once the manager called me back she said that Ciara had said that we did not show her that inspiration picture. I explained to her how we did and she proceeded to say that my moms hair texture is not the same as the inspiration picture. We are very much aware that our moms hair is not the same texture, but the color itself was still not even close to what we had asked for. She then told me that she can make another appointment to fix our moms hair. We emailed the salon to make sure that it would be free of charge and received an email back confirming the service would be free of charge (see email below). It was to our surprise once we went in for the appointment on Thursday that we would have to pay an additional charge since what we wanted was a "different service". We were not planning to come back but agreed to the second appointment because assistant manager Alex Shaffer confirmed that the appointment would be free of charge. I asked for a detailed receipt of our last visit and to my surprise I was charged for foiled highlights even though the stylist did not use one piece of foil on my moms hair. The leadership team went with the miscommunication excuse because of the language barrier with our mom. My sister and I went to the appointment and speak perfect English and Spanish. It was not miscommunication because there was no communication at all. Ciara did not communicate anything regarding the hair process. On thursday Alex kept going on and on about the hair process my mom desired explaining that it would take multiple sessions to achieve the look. This should have been communicated in the initial appointment by the stylist. We received a full refund after denying the second service. read more

I have been a loyal customer to this salon for over 7 years. I have always loved the work that they do to my hair. However, today for the first time in 7 years. I was running late and had to move my appointment by 15 mins. Unfortunately, as I arrived at downtown Elmhurst I was stuck on the other side of the train tracks due to two cargo trains passing by at the same time. I called to express that I was stuck just on the other side. I was then informed that they were canceling my appointment. I find this to be incredibly disheartening. Especially considering I have personally waited for my stylist due to the same circumstances of being stuck due to a train. I had to go to work with a hat on my head due to this incident. I was unprepared to be hat free. Considering I was going to have it cut and styled prior to going to work. I will never go back to Effigy due to this incident. Yes Effigy does a great job. My first time here. Everyone was super nice; offered me a beverage which I didn't take because of covid. I got a simple trim of an inch of my fine hair, blunt cut without any layers, and blow dry cost about $90 ($75 plus tip). I felt it was grossly overpriced especially with the end result of me looking the exact same. The hair wash took about 2 mins tops, no massage. My stylist didn't ask for feedback throughout the process whether it's a good length or not. She just said let's dry it and see how it looks. Before I knew it we were done. Also didn't ask how I wanted to style my hair, I just kind of got a blow dry which I can do at home. I probably could have spoken up but it was all over very fast. I asked a few times about remedies for my dry/oily scalp and frizzy bottom of hair, but didn't get any recs. The whole thing took 20 mins. So if you're in a hurry, this is your place. I have been seeing Stephanie for cuts for a little over two years now (maybe more? time flies!), and let me tell you, she is amazing. She always has a positive attitude and a willingness to listen. While giving me expert advise, she never neglects my requests. I didn't have great visits with Effigy. I gave them 2 vs 1 based since the management team tried to make it better. I was a new customer and met with a stylist for a balayage hair color. This was my first balayage and I wasn't sure what to expect. Overall, I liked the treatment and look. I didn't have a lot of outgrowth, so the stylist color my roots. It came out orange. As she was drying my hair, she said that I'd like need to come back to get the color fixed. I didn't notice the orange, paid and left. I soon realized it was bright, but I was slammed for three weeks and couldn't get back in. By the time I could, the color had washed out so it was manageable. I made another appt for a balayage hair color. When I sat in the chair, I pulled out the picture that is my hair inspiration to remind the stylist. The stylist said we should do highlights in my under part of the hair and around my face to keep that part bright. I aligned. Sometime during the service I realized my whole head was being highlighted. I asked what was going on since this was different from the plan. She said this is what's best. I paid and left. Over the next two weeks, I contented to be frustrated. I had an appt from one service, confirmed our plan in the beginning, and another service was performed on me. The highlight went completely against what I was trying to do as I wanted more outgrowth/natural looking hair. This is twice the stylist either messed up the color, or did something completed different than we talked about/I booked. When I explained to the manager, she spoke to the stylist and the stylist felt the original plan wasn't possible and another step was needed. This should have been communicated to me, and requested my approval before coloring my hair. The management offered to have the same stylist fix my hair and wanted to make the situation right. 1) Hard to fix as my outgrowth for the past 4 months was covered up. 2) I gave her a second chance when I went back, a third would be my fault for sitting in her chair again read more

I have been going to Effigy since March 2016 when I got a recommendation from a friend to go see Lexi for my dream catchers extensions. I have been getting my color done by her as well, and I have to say: my naturally thin and previously damaged hair has never looked so good!! Thank you Lexi for nursing my hair back to health! After a redo of my manicure, I left a much happier customer. Angie did an excellent job on my nails. What sets her apart from others? She actually periodically checks with how satisfied you are with the job she is doing. She makes sure your nail is squeaky clean - literally - before applying any polish, an underrated move, I say. She starts the painting with your thumb vs. your pinkie, so you don't have to awkwardly hand her your thumb after the rest of your digits have been done. And she takes her time, redoing nails if needed. Thanks girl! Though she jokes about how old she is getting, this is definitely one of the best manis I've gotten. I couldn't stop staring at my nails! Thank you Mallory for doing a lovely job cutting my hair and giving me a low maintenance cut that I can handle! I love coming to Effigy Salon because not only is it super cute but the stylists are experienced and friendly! Mallory has cut my hair twice and both times I was really pleased. My total haircut fee was about $50 without tip. I also bought a dry shampoo which I ended up not liking at all BUT the salon was very happy to refund my money and allow me to select a voluminizing spray called Oribe and a Keritase shampoo. The Oribe spray is very powerful so I was very happy with the results. The products that Effigy stocks seems to be very high quality... I just don't think the dry shampoo I bought worked for my hair type. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Yes Woohoo!!! It is as good as it gets! Recently I was looking to seek out a new place to get the dooo done up. A family member reccomended a place to check out called Effigy Salon in Lombard. Since I'm I a dude I was kind of hesitant to check out a "Salon" but I went for it and I'm so glad I did and have never looked back since my 1st visit there. Late last year they moved their business from Lombard to downtown Elmhurst located at 110 W. Park Ave, they are located directly across the street from the Elmhurst train station on the south side of the tracks. Let me tell you all they did not just move the business from one town to another town, they cranked it up several notches. There's a total of four business's in one large space in about what I'm guessing is 18,000 sq.ft. all spread out within a very comfortable floor- plan. The space is named Mecca2 which is short for "Mecca squared" get it.....four business's. Upon entering you walk into Glitch Art Gallery which their artists artwork is pretty much hanging in all four business's spaces, if you like modern art/artists you are going be blown away by the artwork on display here. Then you are lead into Effigy Salon's lower level reception area and into their products display area and color station area which the salon then continues to the second level where there are over 10 stylists stations and specialty stations. Also on the lower level there is Park Ave. health and well being center which is a state of the art chiropractics and massage therapy practice where you can get all those aches and kinks worked out. Finally there's Flight 112 Wine & Beer House which here they serve the finest wines and import/micro brewery beers along with a gourmet menu of delicious light appetizers and sandwiches in a really sharp bar area with a separate comfortable rear lounge space. Having all four of these type business's in one open floor plan space is really a genius concept as they all compliment each other extremely well. The level of service here is 2nd to none as their pro trained staff are excellent at being sure you're constantly being attended too and that your satisfied with every aspect of your visit's experience. So if you enjoy being treated like a Queen or King then this is the place for you! PS Since Mecca2 just opened late last year they really have not had a grand opening as of yet but I hear they plan too in early spring. In the interim Glitch Gallery's 1st art show is this coming Saturday 2/21 from 7:00 - 11:00 pm which gives you a great chance to get a early sneak peak at a really HOT new place. I have been going to this salon since it was first opened in Lombard. I love going to a salon where it doesn't smell like your typical salon. On my last visit I decided to treat myself to the wine bar next door. The food is amazing. I highly recommend you try it or come back for drinks for later with friends. You will always be greeted by unpretentious staff and they try to make you comfortable by offering you something to drink. I highly recommend this salon for quality hair and nail services. They don't even push their salon products like some places, but it's worth a try because the products they carry are amazing! Worth the money. my first time here was in november 2020 to go from dark brown to blonde. i was okay with the results.. there was some variation in my blonde but i just assumed it was a mistake and my roots looked good etc. slight variation that didn't bother me. i go back to get root touch up and to go slightly lighter and more cool toned in march 2021 and i leave with banding and hot roots. i email the salon explaining i was unhappy with the technical skill and that my hair was white/ grey but also still yellow in some spots ( see pictures). and i explained i wasn't willing to sit in a chair for another 3 hours like i had just did for my roots and extra bleaching , toning etc ... they called me told me they could fix the banding for me in just thirty minutes with toner. so i said eff it sure. i went in and explained i loved the tone and how light it was. and she said that we would only go A LITTLE darker... as i was basically platinum at that point with how white and grey my hair was.. after the toning was done and then i sit back in my chair snd my hair is this taupe brown purple blue color. i literally paid almost $200 on tuesday when i got my roots touched up. which included extra $20 for the extra bleach used to even light her than i was in my first appointment in november. just to have that reversed completely because of my stylists technically skill not being up to par. she took the easy route and covered her mistakes with a dark toner instead of rebleaching the yellow parts of my roots . she instead covered her mistakes with a darker color. I am a college student. across the two times i've been to this salon i've paid $400 dollars.. i'm disappointed because that is a lot of money... and will be emailing them expressing this.. again for the second time. i feel jipped. patty is so nice and understanding but i just don't think it's worth the $400 i paid in total across my 2 experiences at this salon.. especially if how they fix their mistakes is by covering them up with a darker color lol i've tried taking the toner out with a home made mix i found on the internet that worked when i dyed my hair semi permanent pink ... it's not working. disappointing i have to find another salon to fix this. and spend more money. read more

Sooo, blow outs are kind of my thing. I hate washing my hair myself and love to get pampered by expert styling fingers, so when my BF made an appointment for a 1 hour massage at Park Avenue Wellness in the same building, I thought it'd be a perfect excuse for me to tag along and get a blow out. I was scheduled with Judith, who had done a wonderful job cutting my BFs hair at the yelp Elite event back in March. When I arrived, I requested that instead of a traditional blow out, I'd like for my hair to remain unwashed and just to be blown out so everything was big, sleek, and had some sexy curls. Judith put the smack down on my normally thin hair and va,va, voomed it up sky high. When I left, I looked like an orange headed Dolly Parton, my idol. The hair was so perfect that it looked like a wig, and that's just how I like it. By the end of the night, 14 hours later, my hair had only fallen a bit, but it was sexy, bouncy, and beautiful. When I went to pay for my styling I was a bit surprised by the $40 price tag attached to my no wash blow out, as I've never paid more than $25 anywhere else, but the style did last throughout the night and I considered $40 an decent price to pay for a hairstyle that would have taken me 2 hours to do myself and wouldn't have looked as good. I would recommend Judith if you're in the mood for a hair cut, or big, beautiful, blow out to rival that of Paulie D's, since she worked wonders on my and my man's mop. read more

I have many tales of woe when it comes to finding the right place to get a haircut. I've been stylist hopping since high school which is too long ago to admit to. My recent adventures led my hair to resemble Darth Vader's Helmet. The force has just not been with me... that is until I heard about Effigy! I also happened to come on the right day...Vinyl Wednesday. I mean come on, what salon does that? The not hip ones that's who! Anywho...everyone at the salon is really friendly. Isabel at the front desk was super nice and made me feel comfortable as soon as I walked in. But let me tell you about my haircut! Mallory is magical. End of story. She listened to what I wanted and understood how curls work, because she has them too, and best of all doesn't straighten them! But what I really was shocked about was how I looked immediately after my cut. Usually I have to put my hair in a ponytail and hightail it home so no one see's the frizzy birds nest I'm sporting. This has always just been a fact of life. But that wasn't the case! I'm a little late in my review because I've been mad at them this long. But almost two months ago I got deep conditioning, hair cut, and blow dry. Went in with high expectations cause my friend got a good cut from here and yelp had good reviews. Haircut was okay, nothing special. But was some what grossed out when the hair brush she used to blow dry my hair with had tons of blonde hair stands in it and of course my hair is black. Ewww. Then the nail in the coffin was after the first time I washed my hair I felt how dry it felt. Whatever treatment they did to deep condition actually totally dried my hair out. My hair looks more damaged now then it did before my haircut. WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK!!! read more

I am so grateful to Isabel at this salon who took my call and suggested I see Mallory for a cut and color. As I told Isabel, I had been using box color and had a few inches of gray growing in, and *gasp* I was cutting my own hair. I also have scalp skin issues. I was greeted warmly at the reception desk and offered a beverage, which was very kind. Mallory made such a positive difference for me, made me feel at home as a new client, and gave me an incredible transformation with all-over color, highlights, and a cut. She also gave me sound advice on how to manage my scalp issues, as years of topical steroids were very painful. If I could give Mallory and this salon 100 yelp stars I would! Worth every penny! I've been to this salon a few times now. Although I really like the stylists and the atmosphere (which is why I gave 3 stars), I don't know why I can't find someone to cut my bangs properly. Two different stylists have now made my bangs much shorter than asked, to the point where I have to pin them up. This last time, they were even longer in the middle than on the sides and I had to go to a different salon to get them fixed. This specific stylist did a great job on my hair the time before so I'm not sure what happened. Unfortunately, I'm not thrilled with my cut or my bangs this time. So disappointing. read more

They offer top-line hair products for sale...Moroccan Oil, Kerastase, etc. I just bought their "Davine's No.7 Crystal" hair spray from Italy...I had an up-do for a wedding this past weekend...not a curl or lock fell the whole evening! Their services are high-end professional without the crazy high-end prices. Love, love my new highlights...ask for Mallory....the magician of curls! Update! I came back to the salon for a much over due partial and trim. I made sure this time to park right outside of the salon in another 3 hour parking spot. Jackie told me my hair (which had bright blonde peek-a-boo's) needed an update, and a serious change. I agreed! We decided to go with caramel highlights and dark red lowlights. Almost three hours in to the appointment she asked where I parked. I told her I was in a three hour spot, and she kindly had one of the girls go out and move my car to another three hour spot close by. Jackie also mentioned that the manager saw my previous post about the parking ticket and because it fell through and cost me an extra $50.00 he wanted to give me a cut on my visit (no pun intended). All in all, Jackie made my hair look stunning, in both color and cut, and the parking ticket situation was compensated for. Thanks so much Jackie for taking your time with me and my copious amounts of hair, and making it all look amazing. And thanks, Frank, for taking care of the ticket amount for me!
