Keller Karl A DDS

Keller Karl A DDS

I have been going to Dr. Keller for about 30 years, and have always liked him and trusted him. The…read morelast couple visits I have had, he has filled cavities without novacaine, and he is fully aware that I am a dentist chicken. That was upsetting enough to make me leave; however, THIS is the reason I will now make the switch to a different dentist, and take my entire family with me: He has the absolute rudest office assistant. HER NAME IS DEBBIE. She is rude and condescending on the phone (if you have an emergency, such as a broken tooth, too bad, she gives you the impression she couldn't care less...ummm, let's see, I have an appointment two weeks from now.......), she is rude and condescending and EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL in person as well. I made several calls to the office to consult with Dr. Keller, only to have her casually dismiss me by saying "I can't hear you", whereupon she simply hangs up on me. She also has no clue about what records she is supposedly maintaining. I needed to pick up a referral for oral surgery via another dentist. When I called, she claimed she hadn't seen anything. I called the referring dentist, whose extremely helpful office personnel gave me the exact date the referral was mailed to Dr. Keller's office, and verified the name and address it should have been sent to. I had to call Dr. Keller's office AGAIN to verify receipt of this information, whereupon, Debbie casually stated "Oh, I guess I do have it." Wow. How very helpful of you. I said I would be over to pick it up. When I arrived, she stated I would have to wait, Dr. Keller wanted her to call the referring dentist before giving me my records. She proceeded to make me stand 15 minutes in their freezing waiting room, while she chatted with a co-worker. She never made a call, and she was never out of my sight, so this is factual. After she made me stand there and wait, while I had to get to another appointment, she slid the glass window open and said, with her usual dour expression "Here you go. This is all I have." She handed me copies of X-rays, not even enclosed in an envelope. It was raining outside. Unheard of when it comes to taking personal medical records out of an office. No envelope????Again, EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. On another visit, she ignored me as I waited to check out, then turned around, unsmiling, as usual, and said "That will be $______ for today." Surprised, I asked if she had the current information on my dental insurance, which I have had billed by them before. She said "Let me check." She looked it up, I suppose.....then, without apology or acknowledgement of her error, said "I guess we can bill your insurance then." Gee, thanks. So sorry to bother you and expect you to do your simple job. Seriously. My advice to her is, if you don't like working with the public, go get a job working with things. If you can't be pleasant, then at least fake professionalism. In my experience, the two should always go hand-in-hand. Also, I know of an older woman who was so tired of DEBBIE's rudeness, she wrote a personal/confidential letter to Dr. Keller, marked on the outside as such. Upon arriving at her next appointment, this woman was really upset to have DEBBIE "greet" her by saying "I RECEIVED YOUR LETTER." So, she also violates patient confidentiality. That violates HIPPA regulations, as well. I have come to the conclusion that DEBBIE is either 1. Dr. Keller's wife, 2. His mistress, or 3. Some other family member. How else on Earth could someone with such a poor representation of customer service still keep her job??? If DEBBIE is an example of Dr. Keller's beliefs in how to treat his patients, I am sorry to say, it only reflects horrifically on his professionalism, as well.
