A split unit heating/AC system was installed in three rooms by Adams. 1) While installing the unit in the attic, the technician stepped on an expensive (Totem), in-ceiling speaker causing it to fall onto the floor in the living room below. The speaker was reinstalled, and the ceiling repairs were done by Adams. 2) One of the split units leaked after the initial installation and stained the wall below requiring a repair and me repainting the wall. 3) A leaking expansion tank on their tankless water heater required a repair and it was disclosed by the attending technician that the expansion tank was incorrectly installed on the outfeed side of the water heater. It was relocated to the infeed side, and a short, galvanized pipe (see photos) was used to terminate the old expansion tank installation. As any prudent technician would know, galvanized pipe should not have been used. Consequently, the pipe subsequently corroded, leaked, and caused accumulated chemical deposits in the downstream piping. Additionally, during the repair, the pressure was not properly released so when the system was opened, high pressure water sprayed throughout the room. The outdoor compressor unit also failed; however Adams was able to replace the unit under warranty, but I was left with a massive labor charge. I wish I had better things to say. read more

Shame on you Adams Heating & Cooling - Quality work but at what cost? The service technician from Adams Heating & Cooling diagnosed that two of my Amana PT air conditioning units had faulty circuit boards. Dave, the technician, was very professional and knowledgeable. He left saying someone would get back to me with the repair cost. A week later the service manager called and said the repair cost would be $700 per unit ($1,400 total) which included parts and labor. At this excessive price I did some research and found the replacement circuit boards (made by Amana) cost $120 each. A transformer which Adams suggested replacing was not needed. I ordered the boards and replaced them myself in a half hour (using a screwdriver and simple directions provided). Both units have been working fine since 7/13. Assuming Adams could get the Amana circuit boards for the same price I paid, Adams is charging over $1,100 for a half hour of labor. I contacted the general manager about this offensive repair cost and he said someone would get back to me; that was over a week ago. Shame on you Adams! Quality work does not necessarily mean integrity! read more

I live in a rural area and recently decided to switch from heating oil to propane, which meant a new furnace and water heater. After receiving several quotes and getting feedback from coworkers, I decided to go with Adams. Right away I realized that it was the right choice! Chris came out and gave us a very detailed quote; it wasn't the lowest price we had quoted but it was 30% less than the most expensive. The level of detail that he provided far exceeded anyone else who quoted the job, I felt very comfortable that I was working with someone knowledgeable and who also had my best interest in mind. Prior to scheduling the work I had to arrange for propane to be installed, and of course while I was waiting for that to happen my oil burning weather heater stopped working. I figured it would be a good opportunity to give Adams a test run and called to see if they could help fix my system at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. They did not disappoint! A technician stopped by on his way home, fixed my water heater and the service call was incredibly affordable. I was sold, I called and confirmed my order a few days later. Flash forward to install day (only about 10 days later) and it couldn't have gone any smoother. The guys worked quickly, neatly, and professionally. The work was incredibly well done and I am raving about my new furnace. I called Adams Heating and Cooling on 06/30 morning for central a/c unit repair service call. when I asked about scheduling a service for that day, I specifically ASKED and VERIFIED if it is possible for technician to come IN TIME TO FINISH THE WORK, BEFORE 4pm as I had to leave the house at the time. "NO PROBLEM, We'll get someone in there DEFINITELY before that", said the service manager Bill. Well, I get a call from technician at 3:15pm, saying he is on his way. I asked him if he could be done by 4pm as I had to leave the house at that time, and he says "ABSOLUTELY NOT. There's no way. Diagnostic alone would take more then 30min"(we'll come back to this particular statement so keep it in mind) and he is 20 min away. (Strike one). ok, fine. so I call the service manager immediately after hanging up with technician, and set up another appointment for next day which is7/1. Told him that I have several appointments I have to keep, so my availability is between 1pm to 5:30pm. I SPECIFICALLY asked him if this will present a problem. "NO IT WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM AT ALL!!" he said. "Tech is working until 4:30pm so we DEFINITELY will not have problem, we will have tech in between those time." well, 7/1 comes and I get a call from Adams Heating and Cooling @ 11:45am. We are on the road and trying to finish up the last of the appointment. We are NOT at home yet. I answer the call, the lady on the other line is Frazzled, and start yelling at me. She says "well, you are the last on the list for today's work, and technician needs to come in NOW, would you be available?" I tell her no, we are not even home yet, and she says. "well, then we have to reschedule you to another day". (Strike Two) I Explained to her the situation, and told her that I had SPECIFICALLY asked if my schedule would cause a problem, and each time, I was told "NO PROBLEM". The lady I spoke to further yelled and said " Well, we can't have technicians just waiting around, we can't do this." I again explained that I asked if my scheduling would be a problem before hand and was told it would not be an issue. The said lady sighed a big sigh (of someone dealing with difficult person) "...THIS is THE reason why we don't do SPECIFIED appointment, we cant let technicians sit around doing nothing" (strike THREE). First of all, it isn't a specified appointment. it was a RANGE of time that spanned half a day!!! and I had REPEATEDLY asked, if it would cause a problem. To which answer I received each time was "NO PROBLEM". But the lady on the other-end made it sound like I was the one being unreasonable. really? was I being unreasonable for not being able to be at the house earlier then agreed upon time? when service manager had told me that "technician will be working until 4:30pm"??? I had very HIGH hopes for ADAM's Heating and Cooling. But I can't deal with a company that 1) can't keep a appointment promises that they re-assured on multiple occasions as "NO PROBLEM" 2) makes customer feel like the problem is on our side, when in fact, company is the one failing to live up to their own words. If they are charging $109 for first 30min (we'll come back to this as well, so keep this rate in mind), and $35 for each additional 15min, I would expect them to be able to keep the schedule they have promised. IF they can't keep the simple scheduling promise, I can't imagine HOW they can live up to any other promises of quality of their work. I found another service that charged much less, and was upfront about what they can do and can't do instead of promising me the world and not deliver. For a complete run around they gave me for simple scheduling, and service rep calling me and yelling at me for THEIR mistake, they get 1 star. Additionally on rates: Service manager Bill said "...IF problem is solved within 1/2 hours, we'll not charge you a cent over $109" The technician I spoke to said "Diagnostic alone would take MORE THEN 1/2 hours" Service manager isn't lying in his statement, true, but draw your own conclusion about what the tech said and what it means. __________________________________ July 5th update: \\ "we called you to see if we could come earlier since we had a technician done early and available to come at that time. At that time, you became extremely upset since it was not your scheduled time." ^^^^^^ this is the statement they left. FOR SOME REASON, they have conveniently disregarded the crucial part of the entire exchange. Yes I became "extremely upset" as they put, it but they have omitted certain facts. I'm going to write again why, and bring it to forefront, what they CHOOSE not to address. \ they have conveniently disregarded the part where THEIR STAFF said \ "well, then we have to reschedule you to another day" \ ! Thorough explanations of work done. Respectful of us, our home and our time. Calls returned quickly. Job site kept clean and orderly over two days (finished earlier than 3 day estimate). Ensured heat working after first day on the job. Arrived on time each morning. While installing new furnace, noticed and replaced a non-functional expansion tank and leaking relief valve on our gas water heater before those became a bigger problem. I woke up to a 56 degree house this morning when it was only 5 degrees out. I called Adams, whose very helpful receptionist assured me that they could have someone out to help me within a few hours. Only minutes later, the technician called to tell me he was en route. My technician was named Bill, and he was very pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. They tried to cheat me, the Adams repairman tried to charge me $225.00 for a part that when i looked it up online was only $87.00. I confronted the Adams repairman about it and he claimed that they only have one supplier ( as a small business owner myself I know this is bull even I have several suppliers for the printing inks and paper i purchase for my business ) he also SAID that they are not in the business of making thing cheeper for the end consumer (WTF). I no longer trust this business and I would recommend every one to be very cautious if you still chose to use them. Because of this from know on I will be doing all the repairs on my unit it will take me longer to figure out what is wrong but at least I won't get cheated. Beyond frustrated with these guys. Fire department had to evacuate our house due to a gas leak that National Grid determined was due to poor quality work. Adams states that since its been 3-4 years since install they don't believe National Grid, but National Grid states that it takes time for a cross thread or low quality gas pipework to showup. Once again this company has put my family and lives at risk. You can see my other review (and I haven't reviewed anything else, so don't think that am just a complainer - its just that this companies customer service and safety record is terrible), my other review relates to them not doing my electrical work to code on the same install that resulted in being electrically shocked in the shower.....and they first had their own electricians determine the work wasn't done to code and i have pictures showing the bad connections, but then they denied it. Electrical not done to code, National Grid gas line expert saying that the install was poor quality, these guys almost killed me twice. I have asked them to hire a third party company to fix it and after being connected with one of the co-owners they refused because they don't give a **** about safety and that their own crews don't follow code or quality procedures. I got 3 quotes for this install, theirs was the highest, but I bought into the "quality and customer service" sales pitch. If you have done business with these guys your safety is at risk, feel free to call them and ask, they will give you the run around but won't actually do anything. We started using Adams when our furnace died 5 years ago on the recommendation of several acquaintances. From the get go it was a hassle, but recommendations go a long way. There were several post install changes as to what was included in their original install estimate and for how much. Yet, we called them back every year to maintain the unit and when we finally had our first real problem with it this winter, the hassle resumed. The humidifier THEY installed along with our new furnace was leaking and causing a large pool of water in the basement. First, we had to call 3 times to get someone out more than 2 weeks out after the first tech didn't show up. When he did show up, he mentioned the pad in the humidifier was so calcified it was most likely never serviced in the last few years. When I asked why, he mentioned he couldn't get to it because of the table in front of it. HERE IS AN IDEA, tell me something needs moving DURING the annual maintenance check and I will do it promptly. I would have also ensured the area was clear next time you come in. I work from home, I have time to do this and I need my furnace to work properly. When I agreed to only pay for materials and not the service call, more hassle ensued. called Adams to look at a no heart situation last Monday a week ago. They sent a tech Thursday morning. The guy said the baseboard unit is no good and they have to order a new one. Did not hear back on Thursday or Friday. I called back today on Monday morning at nine am and the receptionist said someone will call back. I called back at 12:30 pm because I had not heard back. I was told the install manager will call back in an hour. Waiting for a call back. Have used them before to clean out the duct, service ac unit and change filter. I had to call several times to get the filter replaced even though that was my main concern. read more

I have used Adam's Heating and Cooling Co. for just over ten years, and my furnace, AC system and Rinnai Hot Water on Demand system were purchased and installed by them and the furnace and duct work was serviced/cleaned in the intervening years. I give the company A+ for the quality of products they sell, install and service AND the same A+ grade for their technicians (courteous, insightful and clean up afterwards) they send out to your home, HOWEVER, be aware of the labor costs for any service, repair or replacement! Roughly $140 per hour, far more than my top quality Schrader & Comp contractors, my Audi/BMW/VW dealership or my lawyer! Coupled with a scheduling snafu on their end, which had me take a day off from work, reschedule meetings, and to find out after I called them, that they couldn't make it and needed to reschedule, has left a sour taste in my mouth, sorry to say, again, the service personal and front desk staff at the office (in person and on the phone) are very good (A), but for the cost (C), my advice is shop around for other estimates. I made an appointment with Adams Heating and Cooling recently and was given a window of between noon and 4 pm on a friday. I proceeded to take half a day off from work, go to my house and await their arrival. Around 2:30 i popped inside from doing some yardwork and had a message asking me to call the company within ten minutes (that's how far the service technician was) or i would have to reschedule. I called back and was promptly told to do just that since i did not call soon enough. After stating my displeasure i was told that the service technician would come. He came at 5 pm. At no time was i told by Adams that i would be receiving a call ten minutes before their arrival that i would HAVE to take. Apparently, it is expected that I take four hours off work but they can not drive ten minutes to my house to keep their appointment. I made an appointment for between noon and 4 pm, they did not show up. Furthermore, the technician told me my was thermostat was broken even though it is set on automatic and my heating and air conditioning turns on and off accordingly. Every time. At my request, Mr. John Adams called me the next business day. He did apologize for my inconvenience but overall maintained that his company did nothing wrong and conveyed an attitude of "my company's time is worth more than yours".
