The white cake is bone dry. Dust. Makes you cough it's so dry. C'mon guys. You know this thing is dry. Fix your shit. The Chocolate is really good though. Expensive AF. $70 for a 12" round birthday cake. The white frosting tastes like pure lard. Leaves a veneer in your mouth even coffee can't through. Meh. The cupcakes are pretty good though. Adams made our wedding cake it was perfect ,this was 10 years ago . We ordered a birthday cake from him 4 years ago - a chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting - Perfect. This past April (my birthday) I order a carrot with cream cheese frosting. When I pick it up Adams partner told me he bake the carrot cake - it look beautiful. Frosting was candy sweet not like cream cheese and the cake had no flavor and very dry. There was 2 or 3 slivers of carrots in the cake. Very disappointed. Tasted like a cheap box cake. I love carrot cakes and I know there 30+ recipes on how to make this cake. It will be a while before I order another cake from Adams. read more

I've stopped at this place a few times over the years, and I think they've changed things up to keep the prices low, and it wasn't for the better. I remember asking I. The past if they used real butter in their buttercream before purchase and I received a look like I offended someone. After today's purchase I don't think there was any butter in the buttercream. We purchased a variety, they're safe because they either have vanilla or chocolate cake, and a variety of flavors for the frostings to change them up. We tried a raspberry filled chocolate. Their chocolate isn't a rich deep chocolate but the cake was fluffy and fresh. The raspberry filling tasted like a prepared flavored filling you would get in a cheap jelly donut. The chocolate iced chocolate cupcake didn't have a rich chocolate taste I was looking for. Their peanut butter iced chocolate cupcake was good. We still have a few more to try, but my hopes aren't high. Although we received 8 for about $15, I would rather buy four really good deep chocolate, real butter iced cupcakes. read more

I literally just ate the BEST cupcake I have ever had and it came from here! It was white cake with strawberry frosting and I was giggling as I ate it because it was THAT good. We always order our son's birthday cakes from Adam's and they never disappoint. The cake is moist, the butter cream frosting delicious, and the decorating is always beautiful! This is a small shop but Adam has a huge heart and always tries to be as accommodating to his clients as possible. I used to get the smiley face cookies from Allen's Cake Shop, Strauss' Bakery, and Deboni's Bakery, all here in Elkhart. The taste was amazing, and I loved them, from all 3 places. And then for YEARS, I was deprived, as all of those bakeries have closed. Enter Adam. I am deprived no more. The best cookie in the universe is baked, iced, sold, and promptly consumed here at Adam's Cake Shop. Yes, I include "consume" because I eat it as soon as it gets out the door. Those little buggers never stand a chance.... If you decide to get one, I might suggest trying them on more than one occasion, because sometimes you get one that's just a wee bit too thin, and perhaps that one is overcooked. It tastes okay still, but the texture isn't as great as when they are thicker. THAT is the best kind, and do NOT judge unless you get a soft, thick cookie. Adam and his baker buddy Rolley (spelling isn't my forte...) also make some great zucchini cupcakes, pumpkin cupcakes, brownies, and petit fours; the frosting on those petit fours is awesomely smooth and sugary enough to make a statement. As far as cakes go, they are very popular with the masses, but I'm not a big fan. Mostly, that's because I like the hard textured frosting that cracks as you push your fork into it, and these cakes don't offer that (I'm VERY cake/frosting-picky). As for chocolate cake, the cake itself has great texture, but the flavor is light, and not as bombastic as I'd prefer. I want my cake to say something, not whisper at me. For white cake, it's pretty good, and that's saying something since I hate white cake. I prefer it in petit four form though...that frosting on those things is delicious. I like Adam's decorating too. It's especially great for children's party cakes and fun holiday gatherings. I like the communion and baptism ones too. I briefly looked through the wedding cake album, and they looked nice, but I didn't have the time to really give my full attention (and I'm not getting married so I wasn't judging critically!). The designs overall are pretty frosting heavy, so if you love frosting, you'll be very happy! Overall, if you want a locally made cake, you aren't picky about your desserts, and you just want something sweet, you can't go wrong here. If you're picky like me, you might not be happy, because I don't have a major sweet-tooth and my taste buds need a explosion of flavor in the cake-department. For cookies though, those smiley cookies are TO DIE FOR. If you don't care for holiday themed decor on the cookies, go during regular season (no holidays coming up) for the cheaper smiley variety. They taste the same, no matter what. read more

Ordered a cake and sent in a picture. We were told they could do similar. The cake we wanted was accented with pink candy pearls. I would have liked to have been able to pick the cake up at about 7:45 am but was told they do not open until 8:00 am. OK? Upon arriving, I waited in my car until my phone said it was 8:00 am. I walked to the doors and they were locked. Lady at the counter doing things 10 feet away didn't even acknowledge me there. STRIKE TWO A man in the back (Adam?) piddling around, brushing crumbs off a table, moving a pan around...obvious not in the midst of pressing work. They let me stand outside the door for four minutes then she came and unlocked the door. STRIKE THREE No greeting, no smile, unfriendly... STRIKE FOUR She got the cake down and opened it. There were no pink pearls. STRIKE FIVE When I asked about it, she said we don't have any. No one called to tell me they took it upon themselves to modify my order. No apology. STRIKE SIX No thank you after the transaction. STRIKE SEVEN -Trying to carry an 18" X 18" X 10" heavy cake/box neither one even held the door for me. STRIKE EIGHT The lady just walked back behind the counter and ignored my struggle. I drove 2 blocks to Kroger and bought some pink candy pearls for a buck and put them on myself. The cake was good but not exceptional. Was supposed to be a layer of chocolate and a layer of white. Chocolate layer was about half the depth of the white. The taste of the cake didn't make up for the very cold and unaccommodating business practice. No way to run a business especially when there is so much competition.. I don't know what their problem was but I felt anything but welcome. Hospitality verged on rude. I won't give them our business again and as events coordinator for our company I would have liked to establish a business relationship with a company we could work with.
