We travel to Chicago strictly for the care of Dr Hanauer because of the many GI specialist we have tried all across the country (and internationally), no other treatment plan works as well as that of Dr Hanauer. NM Hospital houses many super knowledgeable specialist, but anyone dependent on a service animal can tell you that many hospitals do nothing to help ease the complications and anxieties that come with being hospitalized with your service animal (the other Chicago hospital was unaware of ADA laws and refused to admit with the dog). For example, a Northwestern Patient Services Manager told me I would have to pay for this extremely high priced company to come walk the dog (her idea of support was to give me a paper with numbers of dog services - no help at all), but she never even mentioned the hospitals in-house dog walking volunteers!!! However, Ms LaKisha of Northwestern Memorial has alleviated this source of great fear and anxiety by volunteering to coordinate volunteer staff to come walk the dogs! Ms LaKisha of patient transportation is a legitimate ninja and master of transport services - including finding the time to genuinely care about patients AND service animals. If you have a service animal AND you require the best doctors in the country for ANY form of medical needs, this hospital is well worth the travel - just remember to directly call Patient Transport and ask for Ms LaKisha!!

I think it is fabulous that inpatients of the AbilityLab participate in their therapy sessions right alongside the scientists and clinicians who are doing the research. It was fascinating to see, and to get to be a part of that research, if only for a day or two. The facility is world-renown and I have several friends who have been patients at the AbilityLab for intensive rehab, and had great outcomes and only positive things to say. My only mistake was that I accidentally parked in the wrong parking structure- so be sure to look for the correct signage and park only onsite if you want to get the parking validation discount ($15). Thankfully, the understanding manager of the parking structure next door was very kind when I explained that I accidentally parked in the wrong structure, and she approved that I could have the $15 fee instead of the $70 that I was going to be charged! So be sure to park in the correct location, or it could be a very costly visit!! Oh, and the cafeteria!!! Be sure to stop into the cafeteria for a great meal and the view!! Wow. I can't believe the view. There is a chef who prepares a hot meal and I was able to get take-away for my kid: a huge meal of ribs, mashed potatoes and green beans for just $12. Loved the salad bar, too. Very reasonable prices considering the location.

I will never be returning to this clinic and will ensure none of my friends or family members ever receive care here either. I received a diagnosis for a condition and was never contacted by my physician to discuss the diagnosis or figure out a treatment plan. I called four times to try to get in contact with my doctor, with no response. They finally told me that I had to schedule an appointment to talk to my doctor about my diagnosis, and offered dates weeks out. It is unprofessional and dangerous to give patients a chronic diagnosis and not be available to support them after giving the diagnosis.

My husband who had a stroke and is aphasiac had to wait to go to bathroom because they couldn't understand him and they did not check on him regularly. One nurse actually had the gall to say, well he just went a couple hours ago and was not happy she had to help, him. The level of therapy is substandard and I don't think they clean the objects, tools they need to help speech therapy. They used real fruit, how do they clean a porous piece of fruit after use.I watched numerous unsanitary conditions in physical, therapy. They treat patients like a nuisance instead of,offering compassionate care and understanding. Several items were not written down. When it was time to go home, one aid rolled the wheelchair to the front entrance and left us. No help to get to a vehicle just here you go, bye. I had to push my hubby out in a wheelchair, along with several bags and suitcases, plus a walker.I am 69 years old this was horrible. And check, out my husbands referral paper when he was discharged .NOT EVEN HIS. This facility also lost his $6,000 hearing aids and didn't care.
