The first session with Dylan taught me more about what was going on with my body than hundreds of hours of physical therapy. He is amazing. This place is really great. I went to Dr. Dylan Drynan for about a year, and I need to make an appointment to go back now that I have health insurance and a new job. (They'll work out payment plans/discounts if you don't have health insurance, but I just never got around to it.) It's different than going to a traditional chiropractor. While they'll do the regular adjustments on your spine, neck, etc., they also do this really great technique that also helps stretch the muscles to help keep your spine from falling out of alignment. My neck muscles are incredibly tense (feel like rocks!) and I have a problem with the piriformis muscle and the other muscles around it, and he was able to help me be able to both walk and take the edge off of my tension headaches. No one else (other chiropractors, ortho surgeon, physical therapists) have been able to do anything for me... Dr. Drynan was the first to help start relieve the pain. read more

Dr. Tracy Ford is absolutely fantastic. Very knowledgeable, patient, and personable. She really knows her stuff and takes her time with you. I am pregnant and she tailors the treatments around that. I've been lucky enough to also see Lisa, one of the massage therapists on a regular basis which has helped tremendously with getting through my pregnancy. The time spent on her table takes away all the stress and pain of pregnancy. They have both been a huge impact on my well being during such a transitional time. I went to Dr. Drynan for a long-standing dancing injury and he is wonderful. I also see Sharon to get massage and she does a great job. This is not your spa massage; she goes deep, deep, deep and works your muscles hard to break up the knots and my muscles are ready for Dr. Dryan to do his "magic" on them when she's done. The best part is he takes my insurance so it's a simple co-pay and it covers Sharon and Dr. Drynan. He's got a soft and gentle nature about him and is a great chiropractor that practices ART. While many people that come here are into many sports, I'm a desk-jockey with too much mouse and keyboard usage... and I have "carpal tunnel - like symptoms" but it cant possibly be that, as the excellent muscle, tendon, and related work that Dr Drynan does for me has put the issues in nearly full remission. Background: I'm an avid runner typically putting in 40+ miles when I'm not training for a marathon. I've been looking to step up the number of marathons I do each year and even get into some ultramarathoning. I've never been sidelined before and went to ABC to see if they could shed some light on a little discomfort I've had in various places, nothing major. Dr. Verchota and everyone else I talked to while there are really cool. I like the fact that Dr. Verchota is a runner/Ironman athlete himself, so that adds a ton more credibility in my opinion because he's probably felt the very things I've gone through, and if not, he's practicing what he preaches. I learned so much in my first appointment with ABC! They talked to me about my training, asked me to do a few exercises to gauge balance, strength etc - then Dr. Verchota explained why he thought I was feeling what I was and explained very clearly what he was going to do about it. If you've never heard of Active Release Technique, this is SO MUCH more than what you'd ever expect from a traditional chiropractor. Dr. Ryan worked on correcting some soft tissue damage that naturally occurs from all the running I do surrounding my knees and lower back. Not only did I feel really good after the appointment with him, I understood more about my body and what impact not stretching and strengthening certain areas will do to it. If I could give them 100 stars, I would. Active Body Chiropractic is not just Chiropractic. I personally am receiving "Active Release Therapy" by one of their newer doctors, Dr. Ryan Verchotta. Dr. Verchotta is patient, caring, flexible.... if an appointment after yours cancels, he is likely to extend your appointment and work with you more. He is easily over-educated, knowing clearly everything there is to know in the field and if he doesn't (I'm doing acupuncture as well and threw a term his way he wasn't familiar with), he will read up and learn. You can't go wrong with Dr. V or any other doctor in this practice as I'm sure the other two doctors are right along the same lines. I can't throw more compliments their way. Dr. Dylan Drynan is AAaaaamazing!!!! I only saw him once thus far and the results of my first visit are still lasting 3 months later. For starters, I had knee surgery on both of my knees due to an accident/injury and have been to several "top notch" chiropractors, therapists, and other unsuccessful hoopla. I started working with a trainer who competes internationally and she referred me to him since a) he's blocks away from my home and b) she sends all of her other bodybuilding clients to him. when I called, I was in SEVERE pain and just paid $110 to a Lincoln park chiro I've been seeing for a year 2 days prior. Dr. Jeff at Active Body has seriously changed my life. I have seen other doctors, even out of state. No one could help me. I have been dealing with shoulder pain for over four years now. They treat more than the spine. I spent most of the past six months limping with pain due to an injury to my right foot. Combination of a boot, ice, heat, ibuprofen, stretching, massage, rest, and activity did not help. I finally went to see Dr. Drynan, and honestly one treatment of Active Release Technique + Graston + adjustment has completely taken the pain away from my foot. Active Body Chiropractic is a mecca for healing that every athlete in the Chicagoland area needs to know about. I was fortunate enough to discover Active Body after enduring a year of chronic hip pain following a femoral neck stress fracture for which no one - not even the exalted Kathleen Weber, sports medicine doctor for the Chicago Bulls and White Sox - could properly diagnose or treat. Being somewhat new to the running scene, (I had lived a relatively sedentary life until my late 20s when my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and I took up running to relieve stress) I was unfamiliar with the protocol for treating a sports-related injury. My internist referred me to Dr. Daniel Newman at Illinois Bone and Joint Institute who sent me for the bone scan that detected the stress fracture. His "idea" of treatment was to stay off it for eight weeks. Never once did he address the underlying soft tissue issues I've since come to realize caused the injury, and I didn't think to ask him since I trusted his word as my doctor. In any event, he released me back into the running scene after eight weeks of rest, and surprise surprise, the pain came back worse than before. Subsequent visits led to a MRI which indicated a tumor on my femur, so I was referred to Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. There, I saw Dr. Steven Gitelis, who ruled out bone cancer but still had no idea why I was in pain. He referred me to Dr. Kathleen Weber. I had to wait six weeks to get in to see her, and her receptionist called me the day before the appointment to ask me if I could change it so that they could treat an injured Sox player. I was less then impressed. When I finally got in to see her, she had me perform a squat and diagnosed me with a rotated pelvis and hip flexor strain, wrote me a prescription for orthotics, 4-6 weeks of physical therapy including Active Release Techniques (ART) and sent me on my way. Unfortunately, the certified ART provider Dr. Weber referred me to was not covered by insurance, but I was desperate for help. Over the next eight weeks I had spent more than $1500 on physical therapy, custom fit orthotics and ART combined, and while I definitely thought the ART sessions were helping, I could no longer continue to afford it paying out of pocket. Months passed and my hip pain had progressed to the point where I was suffering when I was inactive as well - especially when I sat for long periods of time at work, in a car, on an airplane or after a night's sleep. Forget physical therapy when dancing at my friends' weddings left me incapacitated and laid up on my couch with a heating pad on my groin. It wasn't until around the one-year mark of my initial injury that I found Active Body Chiro on a Google search. Being an electronic marketing manager, I was immediately impressed with their business savvy to optimize their Web site. Their stock only continued to rise when I found out they took insurance and that they could fit me in for an appointment with Dr. Ryan Verchota within the week. Dr. Ryan was incredibly thorough, attentive and compassionate to my plight. He sat with me for an hour during my first appointment and patiently listened to my psycho-babble when all the previous doctors I'd seen couldn't push me out the door fast enough. He explained to me that my hip pain was caused by the excessive build-up of scar tissue inhibiting normal movement, causing dysfunction and predisposing me to the repetitive strain injury cycle as the muscles had to stretch and contract against these adhesions. He treated me with ART during that first appointment, and he was the consummate professional. He reassured me by explaining everything in great detail and answering all my questions, and believe me, I challenged him. What's more is that he has a great passion for what he does and helping others. He's an active runner, so he doesn't just talk the talk. Dr. Verchota succeeded in helping me with ART where everyone else had failed in that most traditional methods such as anti-inflammatory medications, rest, ice, compression, elevation and stretching and strengthening exercises do not address the underlying scar tissue adhesions that develop within the muscles and surrounding soft tissues. The great news is that ART has a 99% efficacy rate in treating soft tissue injuries including muscles, ligaments, fascia and nerves. After only four visits with him, I was able to run again pain-free. All in all, I would highly recommend Active Body Chiro and Dr. Ryan Verchota to anyone and everyone who has suffered from chronic pain whether from a sports injury or not. He got my mind and my body back on track without surgery when all hope was lost. I feel like I have my life back and I have no doubt they can do the same for you! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Dylan Drynan for about 9 months now, and I cannot say enough good things about both Dr. Dylan & the entire Active Body staff. I have experienced horrible lower back issues almost my entire life, and suffer from outstanding injuries related to my time as a collegiate athlete (specifically my SI joint and hips). Since regularly seeing Dr. Dylan, my entire life has dramatically shifted. My SI joint used to frequently lock up to the point where I wouldn't be able to even walk for 1-2 weeks, and with active release therapy (his technique), my problems have gotten SO much better! I haven't had a lapse of my joint locking, and I feel much less pain on a day to day basis. Even though I am young, before I saw Dr. Dylan I could barely workout (which was driving me crazy!), couldn't sit for more than 15 minutes without being in pain, and had so many issues. Anyone who has experienced a chronic back injury knows how badly it effects your whole life- this may sound dramatic but my life is so much different and better now that I don't suffer from chronic pain and can get back to the workouts that I truly enjoy :) As you can probably tell by this long review, I have a ton of respect for Dr. Dylan. As a competitive Olympic weightlifter, and sometimes Crossfitter, in middle age, I have been continually plagued with shoulder issues. I've received PT for injuries- gotten "fixed" but not quite healed. A black hole/abyss between being broken and performing well has been ever present. ART bridges the performance abyss. The first time I visited, I walked in looking like a cactus from the Road Runner cartoon. When I tried to raise both arms above my head, my left arm remained at a 90 degree angle at the elbow. I had sustained an injury that remained repressed in my memory until a few visits in: I had fallen, shoulder-first, onto a concrete sidewalk while helping an adult Chinese woman learn to ride a bicycle. Yes, Ripley. Believe it. Dr. Tracy Ford was on the case. From the beginning, she was able to show this prone-by-accident nerd the potential problems we needed to solve, and to answer my litany of questions. She had a large computer screen and wall posters of the anatomy to help provide clear explanations. She started by referring me for an x-ray, which the lab burned onto a DVD to review with her. She gave me exercises that started with simple arm movements, continued with the resistance of an exercise band, and eventually proceeded to employing light weights. She even let me take videos on my cellphone of her demonstrating the exercises; since it had been tough for me to take notes on paper of the finer points of the techniques (to avoid another calamity). She also massaged me with what looked like a Dr. Seuss-designed letter opener. In fact, it had been designed by a dude, not a doctor, named Graston, rather than by either of my good doctors (Seuss or Ford). I'd never been to a chiropractor or physical therapist before; so I didn't know what to expect. The whole process took months, rather than weeks, of weekly visits and daily exercises, with a minimal amount of pain. I did my homework every day, and I can now report that I am pain free and that I can reach for the stars once more. And as adman Leo Burnett once said, "When you reach for the stars, you may not quite get one, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either." Then again, I'm not flexible enough to even reach down to my toes while standing; an anatomical silver lining, I guess. Tracy is so personable that I rather miss our visits. Active Body is the truth!! I had a serious groin strain on both sides (long story) and couldn't walk properly for months. My groin refused to heal. Traditional physical therapy exercises did me no good and I was worried I might have to undergo surgery. After bouncing around between several doctors and specialists, I found Active Body. I saw huge improvement within a week, and within a month I was able walk normally again. It's hard to describe what they did, but essentially they had to break apart muscles that had fused together from heavy scarring. This involved a combination of hand's on stretching and massage from my doctor, and was something no other place I went to had the expertise to do. My experience has been excellent and I strongly recommend anybody dealing with a persistent physical injury to come to Active Body!!! read more

Dr. Heddles knows his stuff! I was having some pretty bad upper back pain and really wanted to start running and so far it has made such an impact. I feel much less sore even after one treatment but if that wasnt enough just the client education alone was tremendously helpful. I recently moved to the West Coast and Active Body is one of the biggest things I miss the most about Chicago! 5 stars for stellar chiropractors, massage therapists and receptionists. Active Body was like a second home for me as I went to see Dr. Tracy practically every week throughout my pregnancy this past year. I began seeing Tracy long before I was pregnant to address chronic back pain, and between sessions with her and massage sessions with Sharon I felt significantly better and also much more equipped with knowledge they offered to help me sustain my physical well-being between appointments. Later I was incredibly blessed to have Tracy, Lisa (massage therapist but no longer there), and Sharon to turn to every week to help ease the physical challenges of pregnancy as well as prepare my body so that I could birth my baby safely. It was incredibly reassuring to have Tracy, who specializes in helping pregnant women via the Webster Technique, adjust me in a way that was safe for my growing baby and customized to where my body was at in the pregnancy. Tracy was so knowledgeable about the anatomy of pregnant women and offered countless tips for safe exercises and body mechanics that complimented the adjustments she performed. She also offered TONS of affirmation and encouragement for what I was going through. Additionally, she offered invaluable recommendations for pregnancy-related resources. She networks extensively with practitioners in the Chicago birthing community and we not only discovered our Birthing From Within birth prep class (I HIGHLY recommend this!) and our amazing doula (Holly Barhammand) through Tracy, but she was able to offer some insight that helped me decide on a midwifery group (West Suburban Midwife Associates in Oak Park - LOVE them!!) while I was shopping around for one. I gave birth to a healthy baby this past summer and I attribute my being able to have a smooth and safe labor to Tracy and the Active Body team. read more

I went to Dr. Heddles for Active Release Therapy for some shoulder issues I was having. I have just been blown away by how successful my treatment has been. The pain was gone after just two treatments and after six or so I have achieved a level of progress that I have not been able to attain previously after a year using other approaches. Oh, man. Dr. Heddles is a God. I have heinous TMJ, and he has helped me so much. SO much. So much relief! I was advised by a chiro friend to get some ART after a bad muscular injury in my lower back and neck.I was in constant pain due to an injury pushing and pulling pallet jacks at work. Couldn't walk more than a block or two without terrible numbness in both feet. Basic activities like Showering, cooking and driving were painful and difficult. I could no longer sleep in my bed due to the pain.. I withdrew from all social and physical activity that made me who I was. I was a regular gym goer and I was essentially restricted to my apartment due to the pain. When I slept on my back I felt as though bones were bulging out of my skin. I was depressed and my anxiety was off the charts.after my first visit with Dr. Verchota I was able to sleep in my bed again .My pain was still pretty bad but after just 4 visits I was able to do light workouts at the gym and the pain had gone down significantly. I'm not 100% where I was before my injury nearly 10 months later but such is the nature of back injuries. 6 months now after my treatments at active body chiro I'm going back to relieve some continued tension in my back. I recommend active body chiro if your symptoms sound similar to mine. I found relief. I'll post back after I finish my second round of treatments. Hope this helps those of you out there frantically searching the internet for relief when conventional doctors just tell you to deal with it and send you home with a prescription for anti inflammatory medication. I didn't trust anybody including dr verchota. I definitely don't feel that way anymore .I had been burned by my doctor's who would send me home all the while my symptoms worsened.
