I used to get messages here. At first I had a great female message therapist but she left the company for some reason and I was only able to get a male therapist on my days off. I eventually stopped coming and canceled my membership because the sessions were so painful. Like 10 out of 10 pain. I mentioned this to the message therapist at the time but nothing changed. It was like he really did not care that he was causing me unbearable pain. And it's not like I have a low pain tolerance. This guy was also real quiet too. Never made any kind of small talk and wasn't very polite either. Definite case of RBF. Young white guy I think his name started w a j. If u like painful massages he's the guy for u otherwise avoid! I normally go to the midtown location but occasionally I'll go to this location if there's availability. This Active Bodywork location has the sauna and cold plunge capabilities. I have yet to try them because I normally just get a massage and leave. The massage therapists here are fantastic. My go to is Gilberto, he's very knowledgeable and honest. So so thankful I found this place! I've been here many times at the Arden location, mostly with Nico under the new therapist rate ($55/hour) and once with Kate ($100). I'm just blown away by how good they are! I've been going for shoulder inpngment, and neck pain. These sessions definitely helped with my joint and neck pain. I appreciate how knowledgeable the therapists are! Note that this is not where you get a full body massage, they focus on your problem areas only (at least for the deep tissue option). The service is great, the price is very reasonable for the quality of service. I definitely use their service as part of health maintenance routine. There is ample parking available. read more

The massage, which I had from Leo, we're great! This is why I was extremely disappointed and frustrated when I showed up for my appointment with him and the appointment was no where to be found. I have been coming to Active Bodywork for about a year and a half now and absolutely love it. When I get a massage, I want to know that it is doing good for my body and here, I know they are working magic. This is not the place to go if you want a nice relaxing back rub. It will hurt, but they will get the knots out of your body and put you back into place. I come here for the deep tissue massages to complement my running training and feel as though Active Bodywork has definitely helped me avoid injuries. When going in, they ask what area(s) you would like focused on and, incredibly, can also tell where you are having problems based on which muscles are tight. This is not a replacement for going to the doctor but sometimes it feels like they can identify and help me with my issues more than a doctor could by telling me exactly where I need to be stretching/strengthening more. In my experience, not all therapists here are created equal. Sandra is my favorite and I no longer go to anyone else. I have tried a few others but nobody is as effective while also making me feel comfortable. As a girl, I am just more comfortable with a female therapist and Sandra is also very strong. Active Bodywork has a variety of bulk package options as well as a monthly membership. I believe they also have a promo for first time clients. I got into an accident back in October and I was referred to Active Bodywork by a friend. I have been seeing Brittany R. for deep tissue massages once a week since my very first appointment. She is so knowledgeable about what parts of my body are causing pain and knows exactly how to release that tension. She is excellent with her massages and has the ability go harder or lighter with pressure depending on how tender I am feeling that day. She is a wonderful woman and I throughly enjoy my massages with her! The only negative thing I would say about Active Bodywork is that they don't work with insurance so I have to pay out of pocket and then be reimbursed. read more

I definitely distrust this business after my experience there. After one massage therapist worked on me, my pain was worse, significantly worse, for several weeks. At the next session, I told him this and asked him to address it, but after the second session my pain continued to be worse than when I first came in. During the session, some of his work was so painful that I felt like I couldn't breathe, and when I said I was extremely uncomfortable he did back off a little bit but also said it "shouldn't be comfortable". He used so much pressure that I had hickey-like bruises. This might've been worth it if it had actually helped, but, again, my pain was made worse and I was left feeling like maybe he just didn't know what he was doing and was potentially injuring me, I don't know. Maybe not, maybe he's great at what he does, but based on my experience I just couldn't tell. I feel very apprehensive about letting any of the staff lay hands on me again. On the administrative side, I asked for a refund of the rest of a pre-paid package of future appointments after this experience, and they refused. That's their prerogative, I guess, if it's their policy, but it makes me feel like I'm being taken advantage of. I obviously shouldn't have trusted them enough to pay for a package upfront. If you're considering going to them, I recommend caution. Update: They did call me after this and offered me a refund for the remaining amount. They were very nice and did seem really genuine, so much so that I felt bad for being so harsh here. On the other hand, my experience with the actual massage services remains the same. So I guess I'd say the business is okay, probably decent people, but I have doubts about the efficacy of the massage services. read more

There comes a time when you finally have to retire from $20 massages in little Saigon . Those karate chops that start from your butt and end on your back? They don't ease the pain . The random climbing and use of every limb to massage your body ? Well that's just plain weird and I'm sure that doesn't do much . I was referred to Natasha by my BJJ coach ( hi Ryan!) and I can honestly say that I've never had any real body work done . I thought massages were supposed to be what $20 massage parlors offered and that's it. Nope ! I was wrong . Just because Henry climbs on you and does some cool karate moves on your back , doesn't mean it's a legit massage . I was naive to think it was but ever since I was referred to active body work , I am now pleased to say that I finally know what a massage is and it's damn painful but oh so worth it ! I had my first massage with Natasha last week and wow was that life changing . I love how she not only gives you a massage , but she works on your problem areas that you didn't even have to tell her about . It's like she knows just by looking at you or touching you . You're not going to get your feet soaked in water , a wash cloth over your face , and some incense in the room but you will get a really good massage that will have long term healing effects on your body . But if you're looking for a place to actually get the knots out, help you with muscle aches and pains, and gain some knowledge about movement and flexibility, then you've just found the best spot ever. I've been going to Active Bodywork for over a year. After my first couple visits, I eventually joined their monthly membership which is a great deal if you have sessions on a regular basis. I visit Michelle at least once a month to help out with muscle pains caused from exercise and working a desk job. Not gonna lie, sometimes it's painful, but it works and I feel results. Siara is a craftsperson, for sure! After my few sessions with her recently, I did not have to go for any subsequent massage for more than three months!! This has been, hands down, the best-ever treatment I could get. After yesterday's massage-session my finger no longer seems to exhibit those freezing bouts early in the morning, just too good, I almost forgot I had this problem!!! I think the intensity of the massages comes down to the fact that this is a SPORTS massage center, and it is not one of those other kinds of massages.
