He was friendly and knowledgeable, and he was surprised to see my garage door and spring was not standard. He promised to get me a quote that day, and when the supplier didn't get back to him in time, he called to check in and let me know he was still working on it. The next day Matt escalated the job to Ammar, who brought a variety of rarely-needed springs to the service call and he was able to complete the job. He explained exactly what it was about my door that was so unusual (the previous owner had installed an exceptionally heavy door for such a narrow space) and made me feel completely satisfied that I really did require the heavier spring. Here's the best part: after he replaced the broken spring, he noted that the rollers were getting pretty worn and that the existing garage door motor was not optimal for such a heavy door, but instead of trying to pressure me into roller replacements or a new motor, he told me how to keep the rollers lubricated to prolong their life as much as possible and said there was no problem to keep using the current motor but just to be aware it probably wouldn't last as long as we might expect. Bottom line: these guys are honest, knowledgeable, dependable, and they're not going to give you a hard sell. Because of all that, I will definitely call them again when I need garage door work again.

We had a garage door issue and Gil's was the 3rd garage door company that we talked to. Garage…read moredoor company #1 sent a rep that was very pushy and super sketch. He also wanted $600 to lower the door prior to assessing and quoting on recommended repairs. Garage door company #2 sent a rep that was still very aggressive, but at least they were able to get the door in a somewhat functional condition (door rollers back on the rails, cabling back on the drums, spring tension redone) for $200. It was functioning in manual mode, but in automatic, the door would stop 2/3s of the way down and go back up. Company #2 incorrectly diagnosed the problem as an internal issue with the limits on the door opener. They also wouldn't give a straight quote or a recommendation on what to fix. It was more of an a la carte - if you want to replace the springs, $699; cables + drums + springs ($1529); garage door opener $2500+. This would be like going to a car mechanic for squeaky brakes and getting menu pricing of replacing each part of your car. I digress... here's the actual review: Because of the first two companies, I was ready for more shenanigans from Gil's. However, the representative that arrived was a breath of fresh air. Avi examined the area and gave us his assessment. The door was balanced and no visible issues with any of the parts. The Chamberlain wall mount unit was unlikely to be the issue as they are fairly robust units and probably just needed reprogramming. I told him I wanted to try and reprogram it myself and asked for a quote on a replacement in case it was an opener issue. Avi was extremely professional, honest, and taught us a little about the mechanics of the door opening system. Even though we were able to resolve the problem, I would definitely go with Gil's for any major repair. After seeing all three repairmen, I took some time on the weekend to see if there was anything I could adjust. I noticed the rail was two separate pieces of metal and that they weren't aligned perfectly with each other. I used an adjustable wrench to bend the rails a little to fix that. I also added some lubricant to the rails and cleaned the safety sensors as well. Garage door is working like a charm now.

I called and was offered a same day appointment which was nice, even though I had a non-urgent…read moreissue. The technician arrived on time and had called earlier to give me an ETA too. Honestly, the whole appointment was really confusing for me. I'm not sure if it just depends on the technician, but I didn't get that "free quote/estimate" as advertised on Gil's website. I felt like there was a lot of upselling initially, such as pressure to get entirely new cables, rollers, and springs when my initial concern was the gap between the door and floor (potential rodent entry). When I questioned if this was really necessary and that I wasn't interested in pursuing any of those services same day, the technician made comments such as "when it breaks let me know" which was unsettling. Later he did say that I could reuse the rollers and cables I already had to save money which changed the tone of things. He also kept asking personal questions which was uncomfortable. At the end of the appointment, I was slapped with a $721 bill - for what??? Note, if you want to avoid the 3% charge, they recommend paying via Zelle or Venmo (they did refund me the $21 (3%)) since I paid via Zelle. Initially the technician just asked me to Zelle/Venmo him (I didn't even know the amount yet!), but I refused without seeing some kind of invoice first which I did receive in the customer portal minutes later and did pay. Anyways, after the technician had left, I called back to ask for clarification on the services with the price breakdown (learned that it was $175 each for panel repair, motor limit adjustment, springs retention, door rebalanced). I contacted the company again to seek clarification on the services such as whether or not there's standard pricing or if written contracts are typically utilized. I wish there was more explanation on the services. I guess the technician/company could tell I was confused about the situation and at least offered to rectify the situation a few days later which they did. They wanted to emphasize customer satisfaction which I do appreciate. I think the overall experience would've been much more pleasant if everything was in writing and there was actually a (no-pressure) free estimate as advertised. Overall, I don't think Gil's Garage Door & Gate Services has any ill intent and they do value customer satisfaction. Maybe it just depends on the technician. Also recommend buddying up with someone during the appointment to avoid being asked personal questions or reduce possible upselling. Other than that, Gil's work quality seems fine and they are very quick.

Their expertise and quality of work truly speak for themselves. They fixed a garage door that kept tearing up the weatherstripping and diagnosed the problem quickly. The pricing was also very reasonable for the amount and quality of work done. Highly recommend.

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars…read more I recently used KJ's Garage Door Repair after a recommendation from my neighbor, and overall, I'm very happy with the results. The process started off strong. I used their automated system and got a callback almost immediately for a same-day appointment. The tech, Dru, texted me an ETA and arrived right on time. He diagnosed the issue instantly, explaining that my builder-grade door was lucky to have lasted this long with just a single spring. Since my spring had shattered and the wires had snapped, the door was completely stuck. Dru charged me a small fee to manually get the door open just so I could get my car out, which was a huge lifesaver. He was friendly, efficient, and clearly knew his stuff. The same day, my main point of contact, Marko, came by to take measurements and provide a quote. Because my door had a specific "short panel window with long panel ridges" style, it required a custom order. He estimated about 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. I knocked off half a star because the communication during that waiting period was frustrating. My door was completely non-functional for those 6 weeks, and I felt like I was the one constantly reaching out for updates. I called at the end of week 3 and week 4, and while Marko was very nice over the phone, he didn't follow up when he said he would. It wasn't until the end of week 6 that he reached out via email to confirm the door was finally arriving. Once we got to the finish line, the email communication became much more consistent. On installation day, there was a brief scare when the installer called saying the distributor had sent the wrong panels. After waiting 6 weeks with a broken door, that was disappointing to hear, especially since the layout of my home makes not having garage access a major pain. Fortunately, he called back an hour later--the package had just been labeled incorrectly and the parts were correct. The installers arrived early and were joined by a second tech halfway through. They finished the whole job in about 3 hours. They were great about setting up my remotes and the opener, and they walked me through how to program the keypad. They did their best to tidy up, though I did find a few stray rusted nails and brackets they missed. Bottom line: The pricing is reasonable, and the servicemen are professional and highly efficient. If the proactive communication during the waiting period was a little tighter, this would easily be a 5-star review.
