I haven't spent much time here since they moved a couple of blocks west on Franklin from their previous location. I mostly stop in to get gift certificates, as I did today, even though Franklin Ave. Is quite the mess and I had to risk my life getting in and out of the parking lot.
If you're looking for an organized, upscale, overpriced boutique type place, just drive on by. This place looks like what it is.. a surplus store. No fancy lighting or displays...just TONS of cool stuff waiting to be discovered. The fun part of a store like this is that you just never know what you might find. From boots to clothing to outerwear to outdoor gear to shelves of this and that...everything you never knew you needed is here.
So the short answer is...I like this place. I bought a gift certificate there today from the nice young man manning the cash register. No plastic gift cards here....I purchased the top part of a 2part carbonless from a sales book, hand written, like stores did back in the day. Apparently they actually have the cards but nobody seems to know how to use them. It matters not to me what form the gift card/certificate takes as long as the store honors it, which they always do.
Its worth a stop, especially if you've never visited a surplus store before. You might want to wait until the road destruction on Franklin is finished, though. Oops, I meant road CONSTRUCTION, of course. read more
