Finding reliable, skilled contractors has always been a challenge. I needed my driveway redone, a skim coat applied to a retaining wall and stairs, and a new concrete parking strip. I got bids from four different companies. Alpha was the last one, and honestly, I expected them to be the most expensive based on the reviews and the professionalism of Alberto Jr.--and I mean that as a compliment. He was incredibly professional, sharp, and had just graduated from the Foster School of Business. This guy is going places. When their bid came back, they weren't the cheapest--but only a few hundred dollars off. I knew right away I wanted to go with them. They started the project within a week and even finished ahead of schedule. They delivered on every promise, showed up exactly when they said they would, and the crew was made up of true professionals. A really cool touch: Alberto's dad, Alberto Sr., is the owner and was on site every single day, working hands-on with the team. The work is absolutely gorgeous and far exceeded my expectations. So much so, I'm already getting a quote from them to replace the pavers inside my fenced yard. Do not hesitate for a second to go with Alpha Concrete. They are the real deal.

D&D Construction just finished the *third* roofing job we hired them for in the past five years…read more D&D put a high quality metal roof on our Olympia home, and then another on our new home after we moved. This latest project was a barn roof replacement, also moving from shingles to metal roofing. Here's why we keep coming back to D&D: First, they do consistently good work. All three times, we worked with the same project coordinator and crew leader. The work was thorough and, once it got going, was finished in a reasonable time. Second, their prices are very competitive. D&D does a lot of large scale commercial and municipal projects, so they have access to bulk rates on materials. Their bids were never the highest, and were sometimes the lowest. Great value for the cost! One caveat for small projects like ours: because D&D does mostly large projects, you will need to be flexible with scheduling. They are likely fitting you in between some bigger jobs, as time becomes available. If you can roll with that, then you will get great work, good materials, and the security of having metal over your head instead of shingles. We looked at other options for our roof jobs, but D&D keeps rising to the top of the list. Highly recommended for metal roof replacements!

Last fall, All American services did some work for us in restoring our kitchen after a leak destroyed the hardwoods. Most of the project was great. The kitchen restoration was done effectively and they did a great job working with our insurance company to cover the vast majority of the costs. I was initially very happy with their work and attentiveness. However, at some point, they seemed to lose interest in the project and things just got left undone. We had to repeatedly contact them a lot of things that weren't finished -- under-cabinet lighting wasn't done, gaps in the flooring, millwork wasn't aligned, heating vents weren't working, the wrong cabinet handles were installed in the kitchen (we have email evidence that we asked for handles, but they installed knobs) and the upper cabinets were separating from the wall. Over a period of months (with multiple unanswered emails before anything happened), most things were resolved, but we were still left with the wrong knobs, and a persistent feeling like the heating wasn't working right. In preparation for selling our house this spring, we had an inspector in the crawlspace and discovered that they had simply not completed the work. The ducts had been disconnected and never replaced, and the insulation had been removed and never replaced. After contacting them twice about this (including supplying pictures), I had to pay some $800 to finish the work they claimed to have done. What started off as a great job, just fell apart at the end, and I'm quite sorry that it came to this.
