RMJ General Contractors - Fence Installation

Thank you Rudy for the Easter egg hunt of cement we have found all around our yard. We had our…read morefence replaced last year and we just started cleaning up the yard for the spring and under almost every hedge is a huge brick of cement. Rewind to last year: We called Rudy out to give a quote on fixing a board that had broken on our fence. Our dog had jumped on the fence and it split. His quote turned into a full fence replacement. He even wiggled one of our poles to prove a point that a repair wouldn't suffice and that we needed a whole new fence. Quote $10,000. Reluctantly we moved forward with the whole fence replacement after a very pushy sales pitch. We were quoted two/three days. And it took an entire week. Having three dogs without a fenced in yard was a hassle. His crew was nice but they worked an entire day with no lunch or break. When it came time to pay we were in a war with Rudy over form of payment. Cash/check was pushed over and over again. Very uncomfortable conversations to be having Fast forward to today and I'm finding cement ALL OVER MY YARD. We paid for the old cement to be removed. I am so dumbfounded that this is even happening. Yeah the fence is 'nice' but now we are going to spent more money on taking this crap to the dump. Save yourself the headache and go to a professional. Someone who will clean up after themselves and not have pushy sales pitches. Oh and the entire week we were told - you need a new roof I can do it for $25,000 - you need to paint your house I can do it for $10,000 - you need to treat your wood here. I can do it for whatever. I was so tired of hearing him. Hence why I'm handling the cement myself instead of calling him to take care of it. I honestly wouldn't put it past him to reach out about this review. Don't call us Rudy. Don't stop by. Just don't.

Rudy was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to help us with our build project! Highly recommend calling Rudy, we would work with RMJ again.

***Please note -- I updated my review from 1 to 5 stars. Terra Firma took the initiative to reach…read moreout and assess any next steps needed to correct the problem. Trust is 100% restored knowing that if problems come up they will take any action needed to follow up. I will also say that the work they originally did was actually to code, and we agreed that the moisture problems arose due to the nonstandard setup of my dehumidifier, NOT because of errors in Terra Firma's work. Thank you Terra Firma.*** Unfortunately, I have to drop a negative review in the interest of warning other folks that their work has gone downhill. I previously had an excellent experience with Terra Firma for management of a water problem in my crawlspace. I hired them without question again for my current property for management of moisture issues, and I didn't check their work upon completion as thoroughly as I should have. Unfortunately, about 1 - 2 months after completion of work, I discovered a large mushroom growing out of one of the structural posts in my crawl/basement. On closer inspection, I noticed that the dehumidifier water discharge line they installed was dumping less than a foot away from my foundation, corresponding to the exact spot the mushroom was growing. Moisture was the exact problem they were supposed to fix, but now they have created a severe structural problem secondary to moisture with the dehumidifier line dumping large quantities of water right next to my foundation. In other words, they created the exact issue they were purporting to fix by collecting the moisture and depositing it into my foundation. Once fruiting bodies are growing out of wood, this is an indicator that the wood is severely compromised and the fungus network has grown extensively. I now have a very expensive and serious problem to fix. I called to let them know about the problem, not sure if I will hear back from the coordinator/ the team who did the work. I am not sure if I would trust them to fix the issue after the damage they have caused, but I would accept financial remediation. If they take steps to make things right, I would update my review. I would not hire Terra Firma again for any crawlspace work, be it structural or moisture related because of the big problem they have caused. Again, just would like to warn others.

When I requested an estimate from Elite Northwest I did not have plans or a design. Several other…read morecontractors said they could bid but needed plans. Tomasi worked with me and my ideas and together we created a beautiful front entryway. The area was very challenging due to a slope and several trees. We now have an inviting, open, and useable entrance. We found Tomasi and his crew accommodating, polite, and always cleaned up the site before leaving daily. We are so happy with the results. Elite Northwest was competitive in price and are decent, honest people to work with. We intend to hire them again for other projects later this year.

See full description below. We hired Tomasi back in November 2022 to demo part of our existing patio, lay a new concrete patio, and install a cover over the concrete patio section so we could use the space as indoor outdoor living space. The concrete pour happened in December 2022 after the team demo'd the existing area. They did a great job and everything went smoothly. Everything after the concrete pour is where we started having issues. The area outside our house was left a mess with concrete rubble and rebar scattered about, the porch steps hadn't been rebuilt to our previously existing porch, and our crawl space had concrete rubble and trash inside it with no new cover being built yet. We had to ask multiple times for this work to be completed, in addition to the power washing and sealing the concrete like Tomasi had promised. He didn't want to finish the job until the cover came in, which was understandable until the cover was delayed from a January arrival time to indefinitely. After months of following up with him to try and get answers about the cover, we were eventually told that it would arrive on May 2nd. We followed up a few times before and were told Tomasi was in Hawaii and would pick it up and install it when he was back, but that it had come in. Fast forward another week without updates, Tomasi told us him and his wife had come down with Covid and didn't know when they would return from Hawaii. After months of the cover being pushed off, we gave the cover company a call and we were told they had no record of our order. We've been trying to remedy this with Tomasi who claims he's still not back from Hawaii for over a month now. Tomasi gave us the option to terminate our contract, and offered a partial refund if $2,547.75 due to the cover not being completed, which we decided to move forward with on May 20. I followed up on May 24 since we still hadn't received it with no response. I checked in again on May 31 asking if he could send over the termination contract by end of day 6/1 and received a lengthy reply telling me he won't be reimbursing me for the patio cover and will not send over a reimbursement settlement (which is no longer what we asked for, we just wanted the termination agreement, plus the $2,547.75 refund he offered us due to the patio cover not being completed). I checked in again on June 7, and he said he received the agreement the past Friday and requested some things be changed, but that we should have it that day or the day after. No updates, followed up again on June 10th with no response. At this point, it's been 6 weeks since we originally requested the termination agreement, and we just want to move on. I unfortunately can't recommend Tomasi given the work wasn't completed and at this point we can't even get a termination agreement sent to us or the partial refund he offered. I will update this review if we ever hear back or receive a termination contract, etc.
